Editorial Reviews

The Hardcore Chef proves you don't have to chow on rabbit food, max out your credit card at high-priced health food stores, or spend all day cooking elaborate meals from scratch just because you love animals! Friend of cows and chickens, enemy of corporate greed, the Hardcore Chef leads you down the path of culinary enlightenment with centuries old vegan recipes like Hail Seitan and Eviction-Sloppy Joe (for when your roommate spends your rent money on heroin). With support from his favorite hardcore-punk vegan bands, the Hardcore Chef demonstrates how tasty food can be when it's fast, cheap, and cruelty free.

Over 100 minutes of recipes including: Hail Seitan, Tamil Tiger Rice, Seitan Strokin' Off, Cool-Hand Cookie Cheesecake, When Spud Gets Off Heroin This Is The Potato Salad He'll Eat, Vegetable Medley of Hardcore Gaiety, Free Noriega Wraps, Mushroom Mosh Pit-tatoes, and more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!! Get it! July 1, 2008
This was awesome! Easy to learn from this cook, and he is very laid back... it's ok if you make mistakes! These are great recipes for vegan foods, and they are some you could serve to your meat-eating friends who would enjoy it just as well! I've tried several recipes- they're absolutely delicious! If you're looking for something different and new, you WILL NOT be disappointed. If you can get past some of the language, he's entertaining as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun DVD for Vegan Cooking May 17, 2008
Kerry shows how to cook vegan food with a can-do punk rock DIY attitude. He makes it look easy, in that things don't have to be perfect, if you have tasty ingredients. I would say that he should cook the onions a little longer so they have that caramelized sweetness that makes it better, and not crunchy. His sloppy joe recipe looked good, but he put too much pepper(and he admitted it)in it. I am eager to try the recipes, and I love the titles of the recipes. Perfect DVD for veg-curious punk rockers and their compatriots. In the end he visits Food Fight Grocery in Portland, Oregon and he recommends various vegan resources.

4.0 out of 5 stars Vegans *CAN* be funny! November 15, 2010
Not only does the chef's personable attitude and the colorful background make it fun to watch but the recipes have punchy names and are both hearty and relatively inexpensive to make. This cooking DVD defies the "rabbit food" stereotypes usually geared towards vegan/vegetarian diets and is accompanied by a hardcore soundtrack! I found myself giggling at some of the ingredients lists and the recipe names. My favorite being "Eviction Notice Sloppy Joes" (for when your roommate is stealing your rent money).

The only thing I would suggest is more desserts!

4.0 out of 5 stars Spirited April 23, 2010
My true rating is more like a three and a half stars. I agree that he can be a bit vulgar, but I like his spirit. Also, it's fun to see a young guy cook and not make apologies for it! It's worth a watch. It educated me on seitan, since I'm new to the vegan scene.

1.0 out of 5 stars recipes: good, language: horrible! May 28, 2011
I can put up with some foul language if I'm watching a really good film. I won't tolerate it while watching a cooking show. Yeah, the recipes are worth trying, but the language is far too foul and distracting. It's tough for me to get through the program without becoming VERY irritated. I can't watch this DVD on a TV anywhere near the kitchen. I don't want kids picking up all these words I don't want them to say. And, when the dude is not swearing.. he's saying the word "awesome" about a bazillion times. Good thing I got this video from the library, and didn't spend any money on it.
