More About the Author
As the self-professed 'oldest computer Jurassic on the planet', his headlong immersion into the dizzy world of eBook publishing opened his eyes, mind, and pleasure to the joys of self-publishing. As a former businessman, he rapidly understood the concept of a writer's need to 'build the platform', and from a standing start began to develop a social networking outreach, which now tops 22,500 direct contacts.
His 'Jack Calder' crime thriller series, THE VIOLIN MAN'S LEGACY, VENGEANCE WEARS BLACK and SAVAGE PAYBACK have blown his mind with more than 80,000 e-link downloads to date. His fourth, KILLER CITY was launched in August 2015.
He started a humorous, informative, self-publishers blog three years ago, never having heard of a 'blog' prior to that, was voted 'Blogger of the Year 2013' and now has a loyal blog following on his networks. He says the novels contain his 'Author's Voice', while the blog carries his 'Author's Brand'. And he's LUVVIN IT!

Partly because of this the characters were very flat as they had been fleshed out better in the previous book.
However whilst the plot was interesting enough to keep me turning the pages to the end, all the action seemed to be quite unreal as every "combat" style event took place smoothly and successfully which places it firmly in the land of fantasy. Even the sex was unbelievably successful!
Felt like something written well outside the author's real of knowledge, without the mitigating benefit of any real creativity.
Still, no reason not to take it with you on holiday.
So here is my list of its weaknesses:
- Good guys not really challenged to the edge of their talents (just too easy for them to win - so no tension)
- Villains two one-dimensional
- No sense of location. By this I mean that the author was not able to immerse me in the place and culture of some of the more exotic locales.
- No engaging characters. I just had no interest in them.
- The lawyer in this is supposed to be top notch, but nothing I read actually convinced me of this.
- rapidly moving plot
- every plot elements leads to another plot element (hence the plot actually goes somewhere pretty directly)
- a brutality bordering on reality
- reasonably well editted
Admittedly, reading the review so far its not easy to see why I say I wanted to give it more. Thing was, yes it was a reasonable read and at no time did I want to give up on it. So, yes, worth a read. I just felt that with more emphasis upon the weaknesses I mention that this could have been so much better.
I intend to read more of this author because I would like to see how he develops as a writer. I'm expecting some good stuff in future.
“Vengeance Wears Black”, a nifty title if ever there was one, is the second novel in the adventures of Jack Calder and the guys from International Security Partners (ISP). In the heat of battle between Asian Triads and European mobsters over turf supremacy to control drugs, prostitution, trafficking and money laundering, a bomb takes the life of an old Gurkha friend and associate of the ISP team. This sets the ball rolling. And it’s bad news for the hoods as ISP becomes involved in their conflict and vengeance is the spur; it’s action time.
The novel is tightly written, fast paced, cleverly plotted and packed with neat little twists and villains that are nicely unpleasant; it’s a thriller alright. Flaws? Few. I felt a need for some loosening up in the dialogue department; a little stilted at times. But a page turner (hate that over used term must seek another) it is. If adventure thrillers are your bag, I recommend it. I could, and will, read it again. Meanwhile, I look forward to the next one. Cheers Mr. Gallacher.
Travel the globe with Jack Calder in his world of International Security!
A direct and to the point style of writing beguiles you as the plot is layered.
Classic, fast paced, action that allows you to rub elbows with Interpol, the ISP and syndicated crimes such as human trafficking.
Will Jack Calder save the girl?
A plot that keeps you locked in until you are finished.
Only to leave you with this...
If the first two books of this series are anything 'to go buy'.... How can we wait for #3!
Don't stop now Seumas, I am hooked on the 'Jack Calder Novel' series!
The story: It begins spectacularly, when a truck load of women from Eastern Europe being smuggled to England for ‘a better life’ is blown up as they wait for transport across the English channel. Flash to Jack Calder and his colleagues at International Security Partners (ISP) all former SAS, meeting at the Peking Garden Restaurant in London’s Soho, for a quiet lunch. Two figures, clad in black with their faces covered, enter the restaurant and throw a bomb onto the floor. A friend of Jack’s, Chandra Rana, ex-Ghurka captain, throws himself on the bomb and saves everyone’s life but his own. Investigating the incident, ISP learned they were caught in a turf war between an Asian gang led by a ruthless 80 year old Chinese matriarch and her son and Eastern European mobsters led by an equally ruthless ex-Chechen fighter. Both groups want control of drug smuggling, female trafficking, prostitution and money laundering in London and beyond. When international law enforcement pays ISP a visit to enlist their help, Jack and his colleagues are offered an opportunity to wreak their vengeance on both gangs, while operating outside the normal constraints of the law – in other words, black ops. Once the gangs realize they are both being pursued relentlessly by an unknown group, they decide to form an unholy alliance, complicating ISP’s plan to eliminate them. The story takes the reader across Europe, through France and Germany to Istanbul and North Africa, following ISP’s and the gangs’ actions.Read more ›
