Book Description

Jack Calder and his former SAS colleagues at ISP, a specialist security firm, are saved from certain death when an ex-Gurkha is killed smothering a deadly grenade thrown into a lunchtime Chinese restaurant in the West End of London. They learn that murderous turf wars are raging between Asian Triads and Eastern European mobsters vying for control of international fiefdoms of drug smuggling, people trafficking, prostitution and money laundering.

An unexpected visit from the highest levels of international law enforcement offers Jack and the ISP team a means to use their black operations skills to wreak a ruthless retaliation against the drug lords.

Unlikely partners emerge in their onslaught against the gangs as the warring criminal factions threaten an unholy alliance to repel them. The pursuit spins across Europe, Turkey and North Africa before a final reckoning.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bang bang You're Dead September 13, 2012
By Amadeus
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I must admit having read this first before "The Violin Man's Legacy" which is a bad idea.

Partly because of this the characters were very flat as they had been fleshed out better in the previous book.

However whilst the plot was interesting enough to keep me turning the pages to the end, all the action seemed to be quite unreal as every "combat" style event took place smoothly and successfully which places it firmly in the land of fantasy. Even the sex was unbelievably successful!

Felt like something written well outside the author's real of knowledge, without the mitigating benefit of any real creativity.

Still, no reason not to take it with you on holiday.

3.0 out of 5 stars Written like a television script February 11, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really wanted to like this book and give it a higher score. But I couldn't. It just read too much like a storyline for one of those action television series where the good guys are always two steps ahead of the bad guys.

So here is my list of its weaknesses:
- Good guys not really challenged to the edge of their talents (just too easy for them to win - so no tension)
- Villains two one-dimensional
- No sense of location. By this I mean that the author was not able to immerse me in the place and culture of some of the more exotic locales.
- No engaging characters. I just had no interest in them.
- The lawyer in this is supposed to be top notch, but nothing I read actually convinced me of this.

Strengths:
- rapidly moving plot
- every plot elements leads to another plot element (hence the plot actually goes somewhere pretty directly)
- a brutality bordering on reality
- reasonably well editted

Admittedly, reading the review so far its not easy to see why I say I wanted to give it more. Thing was, yes it was a reasonable read and at no time did I want to give up on it. So, yes, worth a read. I just felt that with more emphasis upon the weaknesses I mention that this could have been so much better.

I intend to read more of this author because I would like to see how he develops as a writer. I'm expecting some good stuff in future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great thriller February 28, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
"Vengeance Wears Black" by Seumas Gallacher is a gripping thriller set in the world of a private security firm that investigates sinister international mobsters.
Beginning with a rather grim chapter involving human trafficking from Eastern Europe to Britain the book then turns its focus on London. Members of said security only narrowly escape a bomb blast that seems part of a international gang warfare.
Jack Calder and his former SAS colleagues investigate and team up with officials to sort out the mess that spans from Hong Kong and South China to Eastern Europe and the UK.
Gallacher has spun a complex plot that reflects how one must imagine the underworld functioning. The investigation moves at a realistic pace but never loses suspense and intrigue. The characters are also gratefully written without the OTT attributes that many thrillers like to give their heroes. Calder and his partners are almost regular people which made the whole story come together believably.
This has great production values and a high entertainment factor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seumas Gallacher at his best! July 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Vengeance Wears Black exudes pure Seumas Gallacher at his best!

Travel the globe with Jack Calder in his world of International Security!

A direct and to the point style of writing beguiles you as the plot is layered.

Classic, fast paced, action that allows you to rub elbows with Interpol, the ISP and syndicated crimes such as human trafficking.

Will Jack Calder save the girl?

A plot that keeps you locked in until you are finished.

Only to leave you with this...
If the first two books of this series are anything 'to go buy'.... How can we wait for #3!

Don't stop now Seumas, I am hooked on the 'Jack Calder Novel' series!

4.0 out of 5 stars Tight storytelling October 15, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
In this day and age, it's easy to expect complex, complicated plots where you never completely know who is good and who is bad. Usually, nearly every character is a mixture of both. Not so in mister Gallacher's work. You pretty well know who to cheer for and who deserves to be hissed at from the very start. To me, it's a refreshing change of pace. Jack Calder and ISP are the good guys even if their methods are somewhat outside the literal definition of "legal." Like most such stories, "Vangeance Wears Black" is wish fulfillment. The world, generally, is a good place but there are those who despoil it. Jack and his fellows at ISP are the ones who see that those despoilers receive the justice they deserve. If you want your world in more shades of gray and moral complexity thick as molasses, look elsewhere. If you want a taut, well executed action story, you could do far worse than to give this a go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seumas Gallacher Rocks November 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Vengeance Wears Black by Seumas Gallacher is spot on. The author takes you behind the scenes of an international security firm trotting across the globe. The pace is fast and the plot is solid. The writing is clean and not overly descriptive of violence. You will enjoy this thriller, and tell Seumas, Una sent you.

Vengeance Wears Black
By Seumas Gallacher

Reviewed by R. Murry

The plot has been used many times: The good guys against the bad guys. However, Mr. Gallacher's intriguing spin on that basic theme has flashes of believability that brings in the reader. We know that drugs and prostitutes are sold around the world, but what is being done to curtail these criminal activities.

Seumas Gallacher, in his detailed novel, gives a plausible and creditable counter measure - a group of black operations experts who work under the legal radar for Interpol. They are International Security Partners (ISP.) Former SAS members brought together to do what the legal system are not allowed to do, which is to eliminate international criminals by whatever means possible.

One bombing incident, at the Peking Garden restaurant, brings about a turf war between two criminal groups, one Chinese and another East European, for the control over distribution of drugs and prostitution in the United Kingdom.
An ISP comrade is killed in the bombing, which intensifies their already on going contracted policing of these malcontents.

The plot thickens to the point that it hard, at times, to tell who the bad guy is. Mr. Gallacher's character driven story takes us into the background of the international underground. His characters are many, but they come alive to the point that you believe they are real. Three characters propel the story forward and keep you attentive: the leader of ISP, a Chinese elder, and a drug lord lieutenant. Their actions drive the story forward and to an acceptable conclusion.

Seumas descriptive prose delivers an interesting and colorful journey through Europe and Asia, where the drugs and women are imported from to major cities across the world. Unfortunately, there is much truth to what is in this fictional novel. You won't put the book down.

More About the Author

Seumas Gallacher was born in the cradle of the Govan shipyards in Glasgow in the so-called "bad old days" which were in reality the greatest of days, where everybody was a real character of note.

An early career as a trainee Scottish banker led to a spell in London, where his pretence to be a missionary converting the English locals fell on deaf ears.

Escape to the Far East in 1980 opened up access to cultures and societies on a global scale, eventually bringing the realisation that the world is quite simply one large extended village.

The lifelong desire to write has resulted in "The Violin Man's Legacy", the first in a planned series.

Seumas says that finishing that novel was one of the best feelings he has ever experienced in a life full of rich emotions.
