Excellent and less expensive than the vets pricing.

There are plenty of these treats in a bag to last your cat at least a few months, using 5 per day.

The lysine has helped to minimize the symptoms of the herpes type virus so common to cats.

Having bought two varieties of these treats on Amazon, I took the time to look at the differences -- and it's significant when it comes to dosage.

My cats like this product as well as "Vetri-Lysine Plus For Cats, 120 Bite-Sized Soft Chews - 5.29 oz by Vetri-Science Laboratories" (also sold by Amazon.) They are happy to eat both. So I have no complaints with the product.

HOWEVER, this product has a very different per treat dosage compared to the "Vetri-Lysine Plus" and I don't know if most buyers would notice this. I initially thought the products were the same.

Although the other item is only 5.29 oz (versus 6.35 oz here) -- for this product, 6 chews = 250mg of L-Lysine (the active ingredient) whereas for the "Vetri-Lysine Plus," 2 chews = 250 mg of L-Lysine.

The prices of these two items run fairly close (usually a dollar or two difference), so if your goal is fewer treats/more L-Lysine/lower cost, you're better off with the Vetri-Lysine Plus than this.

If you want to spoil your cats with tons of treats to get the same amount of L-Lysine (or want a very specific dosage of L-Lysine,) then you may be better sticking with these!

My vet recommended my cat be on Lysine continuously to help reduce inflammation for his blocked tear duct, and she had given me the Enisyl paste. I couldn't get it into him - it's impossible to hold a squirming kitten and squirt it into his mouth one handed, and he wouldn't go near it on his own. Then I came across these treats and decided to try them. My cat loves them and just gobbles them down as treats.

Does it help his eye? I think he's better with them than without them. His eye still gets runny, but the inflammation is less, and it reduces the time he has to spend on antibiotics and steroids. That alone makes it well worth it.

My cat is having a recurring eye infection. The vet did a PCR test which is pretty expensive ($170) but is the only way to know for sure exactly what the problem is. This test needs to be done when symptoms first develop and prior to giving medication for accurate results. My vet thought he had herpes.

It takes a week for the test results to come back. Meanwhile I bought these treats and my cat really likes them. Sometimes they are a little big so I just cut them in half.

The PCR test results came back today and he does NOT have herpes but has chlamydia (it's a bacterial infection in cats not an std). He needs doxycyline for one month.

Bottom line: Worth it to have your pet tested to be certain what the problem is. If your cat does have herpes these would be good to try as many cats don't like the powder or paste options. Hope this is helpful.

BTW- I bought mine for $15.14 from entirelypets and they came super fast with free shipping too.

I will admit that when I first opened this bag of treats I was dubious! They just did not "look" appealing; however, my ten-year-old feline obviously disagreed with my assessment and could not gobble them up fast enough. Now, the minute I walk in the door from work, he leads me straight to the "treat" drawer "talking" all the way. And then thanks me after by giving me a dozen kisses!

I will continue buying these to help alleviate (and possibly eliminate altogether) his ever constant feline-herpes-induced snotty nose. And - I will be buying them from AbsolutelyPets! They sent this product lightening fast, they were very professional, and they provided me with completely flawless, worry-free service.

Five *S*T*A*R*S* to them!!!

Our cat has been resisting the lysine we gave her from the pump, so we decided to try lysine treats. What a contrast! In the past, she would do her best to get the medication anywhere but in her mouth, spitting it onto the bed, the carpet, and who knows where else. In contrast, she loves the lysine treats, and she jumps excitedly onto the counter when she hears the crinkly bag being opened. I know exactly how much medication she is getting, and because the daily dose is 5-10 treats, I was able to give her extra until her symptoms were abated and then decrease the amountEnisyl-F Lysine Treats for Cats, 6.35oz. She is so much better now.

Executive summary: This product is half as expensive as the 120 chew Lysine product for equal doses.

I compared this product (6.35 oz) with Vetri-Lysine Plus, 120 chews, 5.29 oz. At the time I bought both, this product cost $12.00 and the 120 chews cost $16.81 (free shipping on both). The only way to effectively compare prices is cost per dose. This required counting the number of chews in this product: there were ~430 chews in the 6.35 oz package. Since the dosage is 5 chews for 250mg of Lysine, it works out to 86 doses, or 14 cents per dose. With the other product containing 120 chews, the dosage is 2 chews for 250mg of Lysine, so 60 doses. That works out to 28 cents per dose - twice as expensive!

Having said that, I still like having both products around, but I mainly use this one since it is half the price. If my cat is having a bad day with his eye weeping, it's easy to give him a couple of the "120 chews" to boost his dosage. My vet said that 250mg is actually too low for weepy eye problems related to herpes, and recommended at least 500mg per day. He said there was a study that 1000mg per day works even better for eye problems related to herpes, but I feel like that's a bit excessive. So I put a handful of these chews - 5 to 10 - in Yuri's food and maybe boost it with a couple of the other chews as necessary.

I only rated this product with 4 stars because I'm not sure how much it actually helps with weepy eye. It's one of those problems where there are good days and bad days, so it's hard to tell how much Lysine actually helps. It seems to be a little better with Lysine, so I keep my cat on it.

Update 9/27/2013: My cat Yuri was never diagnosed with herpes via an eye swab test, because they have to put them under and stick a swab under their eye.
