Secondly, both PHOTOSMART and CARRY SPEED are out of Houston TX, I found out albeit too late it's free shipping from CARRY SPEED but for $6.50 and ordering it on Sept 27th and have it arrive on the 29th via USPS (I live in SoCal) was well worth it. The reviews in Amazon are very helpful and important in any decision making and for that reason I felt compelled to add mine. Do the research, stay away from rubber bands, glue and magnets on your Pro gear and know you won't be disappointed with the "Carry Speed Swivi Universal LCD View Finder for DSLR" especially if you own a MKIII and don't want to spend the bucks on a Zacuto.
I don't have to glue anything onto my lcd frame
This viewfinder gives you 3x magnification. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to see the focus as much as I wanted, but that has been alleviated. I can CLEARLY see the focus and as a matter of fact, the viewfinder gives me a better judgement of focus than the magic lantern software, which is saying a lot.
Since the eyecup is pressed against your face, it give an unexpected extra point of stability.
It's easy to take off without screws
The eyecup is very comfortable.
I really wish I had started using these things earlier. They are very easy to underestimate until you use them.
I believe anyone who uses one of these will be very impressed with the quality of the lens in the viewfinder. Image quality is outstanding. The rubber eyepiece can be removed and rotated 180 degs. for people who shoot with their left eye. The diopter adjustment is a little easy to rotate so some care is needed or double check before going "live", that it is adjusted correctly for your eye. The diopter adjustment range is more than adequate (I wear glasses). The rubber is soft enough to accommodate eyeglasses. The frame of the optical box (the part that fits up against the Canon LCD) is covered in a soft rubbery gasket that protects the LCD and camera from any scratches. Very nice product. Finally, an affordable eye viewfinder that gives a very clear and high quality image of the LCD. Focusing is easy and for run-n-gun video, this gadget is worth the cost. If you shoot video with the Mark III, you will be very happy with the way this finder works.
I gave a lower rating due to a diopter defect in the unit I received. It turns but does not alter anything at all. I see this happened to someone else who had left a review so this could be something to look out for if you decide to purchase. Also - prices directly through Carry Speed can beat out the prices I've seen for this unit on Amazon anywhere from $20-50 depending on their promotions (I did not lower my rating here based on price). I will update this review once I receive a replacement unit.
- Attaches via base plate instead of sticky frame, or sticky magnets
- Works with a wide range of cameras and can accomodate a battery grip
- Fold up eye piece is really useful when playing video/stills back to others, or if you only need a sunshade
- Hinge seems much more improved/stable over the other fold up viewfinders I've looked at, such as the ...Read more ›

Finally a really good sub $200 viewfinder. Zacuto may be the best but this one works good enough for me. I've got others but this one is my favorite.Published on December 21, 2013 by sundog
