Get started with VHDL—the easy way!
Intended for both new and more experienced VHDL users, VHDL Made Easy presents the concepts of VHDL (VHSIC Hardware Description Language) for synthesis and simulation in an easy-to-understand way, using examples, tutorials, and detailed descriptions of important VHDL language features. Synthesis coding conventions are covered in detail, as are techniques for test bench development. A comprehensive VHDL keyword reference is also included.
The book includes descriptions of important VHDL standards, including IEEE standards 1076-1993, 1164, 1076.3, and 1076.4 (VITAL).
The CD-ROM included with the book contains a Microsoft® Windows-compatible VHDL simulator, as well as demonstration versions of a number of other VHDL-related commercial software products and sample VHDL code and projects. The CD-ROM runs on Windows 3.1, Windows® 95, and Windows NT™.

VHDL incompletely,
By Michael McCormack (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: VHDL Made Easy! (Hardcover)
If you are a manager looking to learn about what VHDL is used for, perhaps this book would help. If you really need to learn VHDL, this book is a let down. The code samples use constructs that are never explained, key topics for real chip design are never discussed, if you will be trying to do something that is not identical to the examples you'll need another book to understand them (A Guide to VHDL Syntax - Bhaskar, at least) If you do buy this book, treat it well, you'll want to try to return it.

a good start for vhdl,
By A Customer
This review is from: VHDL Made Easy! (Hardcover)
Sometimes a mix-up between VHDL87 and VHDL93, very hard to figure out for a newcomer. The topics are good explained but on some examples one have to look up things explained later (a little bit confusing). Nevertheless, a very good emphasis on what is synthesizeable and what is not. The including CD isn't worth buying the book (just Accolade's demo version and some examples). I would recommend this book for beginners and for those who want to target real hardware with VHDL.

Good introduction to VHDL, but light on the details,
By G Lockhart (Melbourne, Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: VHDL Made Easy! (Hardcover)
This book is a fine introduction to VHDL, well written in the early chapters. Unlike most VHDL books it covers the language from a higher level, including fundamental concepts like test benches that seem to be buried or lost in other books on the subject. It could use a lot more detail, though, and the later chapters seem rushed, and also dated in some areas (VHDL 87 vs. 93 in particular). And as others have mentioned the examples seem inadequate. If you buy this book, you might also want to get something with more detailed examples to go with it.
