I am Austrian (Viennese), and have used this book for years. I found my first copy at the United Nations bookstore, and now just ordered a second copy for my daughter. The book is well written, easy to read and follow. However, the most outstanding quality is that the recipes truly deliver authentic Austrian pastries without having to convert measurements! Thank you Leilly Reich.

Absolutely wonderful recipes for all types of German and Austrian desserts. Fresh fruit tortes, cookies, flavored whipped creams, etc. All sorts of treats you'd expect to find in a good coffee shop.

As a surprise bonus, the three chapters on traditional flourless pastries was great when my grandmother needed a gluten free diet. It was a treat to find great recipes which happened not to use flour. Try the bean torte. Honest.

A note to the publiser: reprint please!

I bought my first Viennese Pastry Cookbook more than 30 years ago and at the time bought a copy for my mother. Later I bought copies for my grown children and a neighbor. Being born in Austria, I could really identify with the cryptic recepies that were the basis of the book, and what's more: the pastries are wonderful. Too bad the later (paper back) does not include Lilly Joss Reich's photos that were in the hardcover book.
