3D Technology Checklist

This product is 3D-related. To help you get a great 3D experience, use our checklist below to ensure that you have everything you need. If you have any questions or want to learn more about 3D, we invite you to visit 3D 101--our center for everything 3D. To get started with 3D, please ensure that you have:

A Display

The first--and most important--item you'll need is a 3D-ready display--whether it be a 3D HDTV, 3D projector, or 3D computer monitor. These displays usually have a higher processing power than older models as they need to display one image for each eye to create a 3D effect.

A Source

While your display is ready for 3D playback, you still need a device to read 3D content (i.e., a movie or a show). This source can be a cable box with a subscription to a 3D channel, a 3D Blu-ray Disc player, or a PlayStation 3.

Content

In order to watch 3D, you will need to get some 3D content. This 3D content will come from the source mentioned above in the form of a 3D program, movie, or game. Please ensure that your 3D movies are in the Blu-ray 3D format, as this new format will provide the best 3D experience.

3D Glasses

All 3D HDTVs on the market require Active Shutter glasses to create the 3D effect. You will need to buy one pair of glasses for each viewer. Also make sure that the Active Shutter glasses you buy are compatible with your display--for example, buy the glasses from the same brand as your 3D HDTV.

HDMI Cable

To connect your source (such as a 3D Blu-ray Disc player) to your display, you'll need a hgh-speed HDMI cable. Cables with this designation--with bandwidth speeds up to 10.2 Gbps (gigabits per second)--will be able to carry the 3D signal without any loss of quality.
If you want to get more information about 3D, shop our 3D products, watch videos, or interact with other customers, visit 3D 101, our customer center about everything 3D.

Bought this at Wallyworld on sale yesterday cheaper than Amazon offered which is a first for me! We brought it home, took all of about 4 minutes from box to start-up. It found our router easily and logged on securely within a minute or two. Updated the firmware and came up with additional TV aps that were not on it out of the box. Pandora, VUDU and Netflix stream wonderfully, and our router is in a room 30+ feet away and through three walls. This unit even programmed the weather App to our location on it's own, which I still have not figured out how it did that. The Blu-ray picture is awesome on our older JVC 30" CRT HDTV Model AV-30w777, and the Apps are a bonus. We look forward to upgrading to a Vizio LED 3D TV eventually and this will be the first piece in place.

We just returned a Magnavox with WIFI Built in Model#: MBP5130/F7 because it was horrible with WIFI reception and took forever to spin up. The Vizio makes that one look like it came from the Flinstone's era.

While yes the Vizio remote is a bit clunky as others have said, it works just fine for my big hands, and having to press hard on the buttons is no big deal, especially when we were programming the wireless WIFI authenification code. The front panel operating controls are touch sensitive vice buttons, which is not only pretty cool but leaves less buttons to wear out in the future. Overall a wonderful product, great picture and excellent deal when you can find one! Great Job Vizio!!!

This has been a pretty decent DVD player for me. However, Vizio has decided to not provide firmware updates for this product... even though it is only two years old. What this means is that new Blu-ray standards are not compatible with this unit. They won't play to put it simply.

I see a lot of bad ratings about this Blu-Ray player. The only thing bad about this player is the remote control. The complaint you've heard about it being clunky is true. As far as the Blu-Ray player is concerned it can't be any better. The quality and speed is quick and precise. The complaints about the menu being confusing is just not so. It is on par with the sony and samsung players I have had. The quality and video streaming is quick and accurate. It has no problems holding the HD steam. The Roku Box I have does seem a tad quicker in locking on to the movie and starting the stream. But once the Vizio locks on I have no problems watching standard or HD movies on netflix. This player is definitely the best player for under $200.00. The base is deeper and the quality is cleaner compared to the Samsung BDP-1500 I had in the past. If you can put up with a clunky remote this player is definitely excellent quality. Highly recommended.

Got this on Monday (Feb 20) and will be returning it this afternoon (Feb 23). Below are my pros and cons.

PROS:
1. Sleek design
2. Plays Discs just fine
3. Audio and video look fine through our HDTV using an HDMI
4. Tech support answered calls quickly and were very courteous

CONS:
1. Remote buttons are clunky
2. WiFi will not connect to internet. I can connect to my wireless -N- network with no problem, but it will not connect to the internet (all of my other devices work fine. I contacted the helpdesk and they attempted to help me 3 separate times. I'll attempt to synopsize each of my calls below:
First call:
a. Technician had me reset the blu-ray back to factory settings
b. Technician had me unplug blu-ray
c. Technician had me unplug router and disconnect ethernet cable
d. Technician had me unplug cable modem, remove battery (if it has backup for phone) and disconnect coaxial
e. Technician had me wait 2 minutes and reconnect and start all devices.
f. Technician had me go back to 'network' and setup all over.
g. Got back on my network, but cannot connect to internet...got disconnected, called back

Second call:
a. Technician had me look up the firmware version under the 'i' tab on the blu-ray
b. Technician stated that it was probably out of date.
c. Technician had me 'hard-wire' player directly to my router (I had to go into the next room and hook it up to my son's small (and old) TV located about 6 feet from my router/cable modem.
d. Player connected through to the internet with flying colors
e. Technician had me update the firmware by navigating through the `settings' in the player (it was difficult to read but I found the option...

I bought the VBR334 version of this player for Christmas to replace my PS3. My main needs for this player was BD/DVD and Netflix.

The only difference between VBR333 and VBR334 is that the 334 ships with an HDMI cable.

This has to be the worst player in the history of bad players.

1. The remote control is not just bad. It's absolutely terrible. It's extremely clunky, you have to press hard for the buttons to even work. It's also made for people who have gorilla hands.

2. The wireless connection is a joke. I put this player in the exact same spot as my PS3 and it gets horrendous reception. While playing Netflix movies on my PS3 they would start instantly and only take a few seconds to start streaming in HD. This takes a good minute to start and HD buffering lasts about 10 minutes, that is if you GET HD quality. Sometimes, HD shows would never play in HD. PS3 played the same shows no problem.

3. Disc play. I never played a disc in this player because I was so frustrated with the slow menu controls, the horrible wireless connection, and terrible remote that I'll be returning it very soon.

4. The menu is abysmal (trying not the use the same word in each section but it' becoming more difficult to find words to describe this pile of garbage). It's really slow and clunky. For each menu the bottom has to slide out in order to select the next menu. Very, very poor design.

This was my first Vizio purchase and will be my last. I was going to buy a Vizio 55" TV but not anymore. With this terrible craftsmanship and design I'll be looking elsewhere.

You've been warned.
