There is no optical INPUT. The optical is for audio OUTPUT.

according to the CNET article it should. or at least the E300A model they tested did do this. I'm waiting for this TV and that 5.1 soundbar to arrive. If it doesn't, then you'd have to split HDMI into hdmi/optical using a separate splitter. More cords and hardware, but would provide true 5.1. http://www.cnet.com/news/20-tvs-tested-which-sets-can-pass-surround-sound-to-a-sound-bar/
