5.0 out of 5 stars Vizio's best non-LED tv., December 10, 2009
This review is from: VIZIO SV471XVT 47-Inch XVT-Series 240 Hz LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I bought this tv about a week ago and have been really pleased. I previously had a 37" sharp 720p 60hz, and did not like it at all. Well after much research I had narrowed it down the Samsung LN46B750. Only problem is that tv is $1500+ dollars. So I wanted another choice and researched and for the price and quality, this Vizio is a no brainer. This XVT is Vizio's best model other than their new 55" LED.

Appearance: It looks really nice. Simple, clean, black and silver. Some people hate that the vizio light will stay orange when the tv turns off but its not really noticeable and doesn't bother me at all.

Sound: Definitely better than my old Sharp, but still nothing to write home about. I have some really nice Logitech 2.1 speakers I use if i'm really wanting the theatre experience but the built in speakers are fine.

Picture quality: This is where I was a HUGE stickler. I wanted at least 120hz, 1080p, and 4ms response time as I'm a gamer. Well this tv has all of those and even goes to 240 with the scanning backlight. The smooth motion when enabled (recommended low) is a little jarring at first, but you quickly get used to it. Not only does smooth motion help with blur, it seems to just make the entire image on screen more crisp whether its moving or not. Very pleased. Watching Dexter on showtime hd was AMAZING! The detail in the intro is just jaw dropping. And this is only in 1080i. Xbox 360 really shows how crisp it can really get. I thought Dexter details were amazing, I hadn't seen nothing until I popped in Modern Warfare 2. Its a sight to be seen. The smooth motion works beautifully on videogames. No problems with blurring at all. Very rarely will there be any judder problems and even when you see a hiccup its for like 1 second, my wife never notices it. Hopefully getting a PS3 soon and check out blurays. But if the other content is any indication of what to expect, it will be great. I just can't imagine it getting any better. We'll see.

Cons: As with all tv's there are always some quirks. I did notice the faintest of flash lighting at the top of the screen in a tiny small area. This is a problem with MANY LCD tvs and is really only noticeable when the screen is completely black, even then its barely noticeable. I only notice it cause I set out looking for these things. Compared to the flash lighting and clouding I've seen on some tvs, this one if by far and away one of the better. DO NOT at all let this problem scare you as all tv's are different and some may not have it at all. PLUS most tvs need 50-100 hours of break in time to fully get everything warmed up so most likely it will fade. Even still my wife can't see what I'm talking about lol.

Conclusion: For the price and quality, bar none the best deal you are gonna find for a while. I was able to snag mine at SAMS for $997. 360 & PS3 users, you will not be disappointed. Will update after I've had it for a while!

UPDATE: 12/28/2009

Well I got a PS3 for christmas and got to see if blurays were any better than hd cable I had been viewing. I have to admit it looks incredible and does indeed look better. I got my wife the Harry Potter bluray collection, and we popped them in, absolutely CRYSTAL CLEAR. Sharp as can be, great colors. So yes, it did indeed get better than I thought. The tv handled the bluray beautifully with its motion and the colors looked dead on.

Also the flashlighting I mentioned earlier in my review has subsided quite a bit and I have to really set there and stare at the blank screen to even be able to see it, so that is good news as well.

Once again I 100% recommend this TV! Thanks for reading and hope I was a bit helpful in your search.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent TV for an excellent price..., January 8, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: VIZIO SV471XVT 47-Inch XVT-Series 240 Hz LCD HDTV (Electronics)
Okay, so I'm not going to write 20 paragraphs on why I like this TV vs. any other one I've tried. What I will say is that TV has a beautiful picture and looks fantastic with HD content. My PS3 games in 1080p make me drool just a little...

I originally purchased this TV at Sam's Club based on the price (Amazon was higher at the time), but that was a complete nightmare that still does not have a satisfactory resolution yet - Long Story. I now own this TV via Amazon and I'm very happy with the purchase. I bought it for $1,021.00 with free shipping and not tax from Amazon and I suggest you wait to buy it if the price is higher than that and from a third party vendor. Amazon rocks! and their customer service is superior to many others I've dealt with.

The remote is solid, picture is crisp, even during faster screen activity (240 Hz), and setting the functions (audio, video) is a piece of cake. Don't get blinded by name brands like Samsung and Sony... Yes, they make quality TV's, but you can get more for you money buying a Vizio and be just as happy with the performance.

Of course after writing this positive review, my TV will burn up tomorrow and never work again...lol. I can only comment on how awesome the TV is after owning it for a week. Time will tell I suppose, but the Square Trade warranty I purchased will give me comfort just in case. =)

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Picture for the price, December 6, 2009
This review is from: VIZIO SV471XVT 47-Inch XVT-Series 240 Hz LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I bought this tv (VIZIO SV471XVT) today, I have been holding out from buying a new tv but the Christmas spirit made me do it.....I tell you going from a 32" low def tv to a 47" high def tv is truly amazing and took some adjusting on my part. Bought a Samsung BD-P1590 which has built in netflix streaming which was also nice. For the price I can't say anything bad about this tv or the picture (I have not found anything yet at least).

5.0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal.., February 25, 2010

I placed my order on 2/23 and received it on 2/25, not too shabby for free shipping. Once I pulled my head out of my butt, set up was pretty darn easy. Even with a standard definition satellite signal the picture looks great, and after testing a few fast action dvd's on a sony up-convert dvd player, I'm sold. I'm really looking forward for Dish Network to get here tomorrow to upgrade my sat receiver with their fancy hi-def version.

I did my homework and studied just about every TV of this size and price range for months, and I have to say I am extremely satisfied with my choice.

My only issue is after seeing the picture quality, my buddy who was going to take my old 32" TV off my hands decided he was going to go out and buy a hi-def. Now I have to find something to with the darn thing.

I am going to buy Vizio's extended warranty just in case, but I would have done that with any other brand out there.

Bottom line, ordering was easy, shipping was very fast, the carrier was extremely helpful and ensured there was no damage to the TV and that it functioned as it was supposed to. The picture and sound quality is more than I expected, and the price didn't kill my budget. I highly recommend this TV. (not to mention Vizio is based in the United States, and I believe in supporting US companies, but that's just me.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great TV, Great Price!, February 1, 2010

This review is from: VIZIO SV471XVT 47-Inch XVT-Series 240 Hz LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I love this TV. I purchased a Vizio 42" LCD TV about 4 years ago, it has worked flawlessly to this day, but I decided to replace it with the new 47"XVT. I am amazed at the quality all around! Great Picture, easy to use, lots of connections and looks great on my Entertainment center... I have been using an up-convert dvd player with the old 42" Vizio and had great quality(or so I thought), but With the new 47"XVT, I cannot believe how great the standard dvd player looks! The TV makes all the difference. I had no idea that my DVD player had such a great output. I also have a blue ray player that is very impressive with this TV. I am very pleased with this product. I am a Vizio customer for life! They do a great job of combining performance and price into a product that competes very well against the more expensive name brands.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value, January 30, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: VIZIO SV471XVT 47-Inch XVT-Series 240 Hz LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I purchased this system in December 2009. I waited for the 240Mhz system and indeed everything I have read has been borne out. I won't reiterate what everyone has mentioned but I do want to bring one comment.

When you watch movies on this system, they look like they have been shot from a home video camera. I watched Twilight (recent movie) and it really looked odd. It demystified the movie. The reason is due to Smooth Motion Technology which can be enabled and disabled. I recommend enabling for sports and disabling for movies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great TV but don't order it through AMAZON..it will be refurbished even if you buy it new, March 23, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: VIZIO SV471XVT 47-Inch XVT-Series 240 Hz LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I have an invoice in hand that says I bought this TV new from Amazon.com and waited 2 weeks even having to drive to the grocery store and meet the deliver guy cause he said his truck was too big to turn the corner of my block. Once we got it we realized with the huge stickers on the box that it was refurbished. When I called Amazon they said they sell all their stuff third party and when I talked with the third party company they said it was amazon's fault that it was posted new because all they had was refurbished. Amazon blames the third party company and they are coming to pick it up. Neither company says they can do anything to help me and it was a mistake. In the mean time the other great deals I could have gotten two weeks ago are no longer there and I have to begin my research again.

Bought this item from Amazon with free shipping and no tax. There was great communication via email and phone regarding the shipping status and arranging the delivery from CEVA. The VIZIO SV471XVT arrived 4 days after the transaction in excellent condition. The delivery men described for me on how to open the box by removing the 4 plastic clip holders without cutting the box. I was told to keep the box for 30 days in case I need to return the unit. I plan to keep the box as it will serve well if I have to transport it. Well packed, the HDTV was easy to remove and place. The quick start instructions were clear and easy to follow. Once set up, the picture was so clear and realistic that I had to soften the tones to provide a warmer feeling to scripted programming. Blue Ray was incredible!! I cannot wait to view live sporting events with the 240 hz. Everything else positive has been stated in the other reviews. I highly recommend this HDTV.

Was hesitant upon ordering a refurbished tv. Caustiously watched programs and sporting events and was pleased looking for any flaw. After having it a while really am impressed with the quality of picture and appearance. Extremely happy and satisfied with the tv while watching the Lakers win their 2nd title in a row.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy transaction, Great TV, March 21, 2010
This review is from: VIZIO SV471XVT 47-Inch XVT-Series 240 Hz LCD HDTV (Electronics)
Product was delivered with no issues. Tv was very easy to set-up for first time viewing. I searched on-line for optimum settings and found the ones I liked best and made the adjustments. I tweaked those a little more and the picture is awesome. Great TV for the money. I hope it stands the test of time.
