I have had this product for long enough now I would say I can make a fair review on it.

I highly recommend this sound bar to people who want great sound but don't want to mess with with all the clutter of multi-speaker systems.

My wife and I can now hear and enjoy tv without having the volume so loud it distorts the sound.

Okay - 1st review of this. I bought it without reading any reviews, just knowing it was their latest and greatest. Not disappointed. Just purchased an LG 47LV5400 (excellent value as well) and wanted something more than factory sound, without the complication and ire of my wife that comes with a complete A/V system. Bottom line is this is a wonderful 'add' that takes a gorgeous TV like LG's and brings it to life. Make the factory speakers seem defective. If you are just looking to add some excellent sound to a TV - this is it. I have it set up in a 12x12 room and the sub rocks. I mean in ways that I never expected a wireless sub to perform. I do have a full blown A/V set-up in another room, and I'm not suggesting this in any way performs like a powered 15" Paradigm - but - for what it is, very impressed. It's worth noting that most newer TV's (including my new LG) that have an optical audio out, it is not a VARIABLE optical out. (Regardless of what the brain-dead guy at LG tech-support states, wasting 2 hours of my time having to remount and rewire the TV using analog - not happy) Meaning your stuck using Vizio's remote for the volume, not your TVs. That sucks. I want to use one remote. The only variable output on my TV is the analog headphone jack. So I have an 1/8" to 1/8" cable using the analog headphone out on the TV to the analog input on the Vizio unit. I set the volume close to full on the Vizio sound bar, then use the TV remote to control the volume. The speakers on the TV automatically shut off when I plug into the headphone jack - all is good.

There are a few settings that can be made on the soundbar. Personal preference I guess. Regardless, all of them sound worlds above the tinny factory TV speakers.

I've been looking for an easy and affordable way to enhance the sound of an LED TV for my hard-of-hearing Mom for some time now and the VHT215 was the first product I've seen that met my minimum requirements of being less than $300 ($249 on Amazon), having a wireless subwoofer and supporting digital audio input (rather than just L/R audio in). The product was very well packed for safe shipping, one of the best I've seen for electronic products. Set-up was a breeze, the main speaker bar comes with feet so if you're placing it on a table or TV stand or what ever all you really have to do is locate the bar where you want it and connect the audio/video cable(s), place the subwoofer some where with line-of-sight to the bar, plug them in...and you have a significant enhancement to your sound. I've had a wired true sorround sound system in my home theater for some time now and the VHT215 is not as good but when you consider the cost and convenience it's a nice compromise.

The sound bar is thinner and more modern looking than the previous generation Vizio sound bars so it gets 2 thumbs up for looks. I used the optical digital input so the sound is traveling from the TV to the sound bar. That gives the option of watching TV without powering up the sound bar, which I know defeats the purpose but I like to keep my options open. The VHT215 also supports 2 HDMI in and 1 HDMI out so you can route your set-top box and blu-ray/DVD player through the sound bar and on to the TV. The HDMI connection supports more advanced audio formats than the digital optical so it should provide even better audio performance, depending on your source.

I researched several Home Theater Sound Bar Systems for a few months. I checked out the Sony HT-CT150 but did not like the fact that it came with a wired subwoofer. A few salespersons at Best Buy tried to sell me a Samsung Sound Bar which was on sale for $299 but I wasn't impressed with the overall sound. I finally decided to purchased the Vizio VHT215 from my local BJs Wholesale after reading the reviews on BJs, Amazon, Cnet, Vizio and a few other websites. Now keep in mind that in my mancave I have a 7.1 Denon Home Theater receiver along with Polk Audio speakers which costs well over $1000 and it rocks, so you could imagine I wasn't expecting alot from a sound bar. I considered putting a similar Home Theater System in the living but my wife did not want several pieces of equipment or wires all over the living room. Imagine to my surprise how great this sound bar performed. I did not expect that such sound can issue forth from just a sound bar with a wireless subwoofer. The sound was distinct and without any distortion. To test it out I played a Michael Jackson concert on a dvd, then the movie Avatar because I wanted to see if it would enhance all the different sounds. Wow!!! That's all I could say. The sound was beautiful. I was in awe! I followed the clear & concise instructions from the manual and within minutes everything was completed. I must say that this sound bar looks pretty classy as well. It goes well with my 55" Panasonic Smart 3D Television. I would recommend this to anyone without hesitation. You won't regret purchasing it.
