One great LCD TV for your money,
By Butch "peachr" (King, NC USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: VIZIO VO47LF - 47" LCD TV - widescreen - 1080p (FullHD) - HDTV (Electronics)
Well folks, after looking at what seems like a thousand different HDTV's from 32" to 50", from Plasma to LCD, from 720P to 1080P, and after looking at reviews everywhere, I decided on this Vizio 47" LCD for one reason - PRICE. I have looked at many HDTV's and all of the LCD sets seem to be comparable in features that count. I ruled out Plasma because they are too fragile. The LCD's have a very good picture, fair sound without an additional sound system and about the same appearance. I am using a standard definition Dish Network system with this TV and the picture is quite acceptable. Depending on the channel I watch, the picture ranges from a little noisy to sharp and clear. It's not the TV - it's the quality of the signal on that particular channel. I purchased a Blue Ray player to see what the TV was really capable of doing and I was absolutely blown away with the quality of the picture. It is unbelievable almost like looking at a 35mm photo. I took a bunch of digital pictures with a FUJI 3.2 MP camera and burned them to a DVD slide show with music. I then watched them using the Blue Ray player and my Vizio 47" LCD and the picture quality again is close to 35 mm quality. I was planning on going to Dish Network's HD system but after seeing what this TV does with the standard signal, I am having second thoughts because the standard is pretty darn good! Also, the Blue Ray player does a great job of up converting my standard DVD movies to give a very acceptable and pleasing viewing of my standard DVD movies. I also found that most any up convert DVD player will give very good quality reproduction with this TV from a standard DVD movie. For my money, I believe this TV will run head to head with any of the others I have looked at and I have looked at a lot of them. I am now looking at slightly smaller Vizio for use in another room in my home. I would recommend this TV highly because it delivers a great picture, has a lot of nice features, has a good warranty, and won't break your budget. I really like mine and will buy another. I would recommend a good external sound system to greatly enhance the sound quality. I hooked up a $69 dollar PC audio system with a small sub-woofer to mine using a set of Radio Shack RCA adapter cables and the sound is great. Not 5.1 surround but not $300.00+ either!! Good luck on what ever you decide to purchase.

Worth Every Penny,

No matter where I shop, I always check the Amazon Reviews first. I also check with CNET. Some professional reviews said that the blacks and gray-scale were off. Damned if I could see it. I went to a brick and mortar store a looked at lots of TVs. Everything from Sony to Samsung. If they take the name and price tag off this TV, you will not be able to tell the picture from a Sony, in fact, you might even like it more. Seeing the name and price will prejudice what you see. One thing this TV has that most of the others don't is an anti-glare screen, great when there are other sources of light around. Here was the bad. The batteries in the remote kept falling out until I stuffed a piece of tissue in the battery cover. The grammar on the box and instruction manual are clearly not perfect English. Besides that, it is a super TV.

Super Video,

I've been watching this set for 4 months now and couldn't be happier. I sit about 6.5 feet from the center of the screen and it looks great. They say you need to be farther away, but no problem. I can stand a couple of feet from it still, no pixels are visible. Setup was a breeze. Four HDMI plug-ins make it easy to hook everything up.
Color is excellent. I have turned the backlight down to 10 and sharpness to +2, everything else is default. I view Dish HD and upsampled video on it, both look super. Nice blacks, no weird tint. Watch sports with no noticeable blur. I love it.

Soooo satisfy,
This review is from: VIZIO VO47LF - 47" LCD TV - widescreen - 1080p (FullHD) - HDTV (Electronics)
I bought this Vizio 47" LCD TV from Costco a year ago, and can't even express how satisfy I am with this. Price per performance...... I don't think I can find any other TV better than this. Feature that I love the most of this TV is "PIP" picture in picture. On Sunday, I am watching Football game in one screen and Hocky game in other, by splitting 47" screen in 2 sections. Or watching NBA game while listening local news on other screen. LOVE IT!!!! I hooked up this TV with HD cable box and 5.1 home theater system, so you can picture me that I don't have spare time anymore. With HD connection, picture quality is so great, you can pretty much forget about 60MHz speed or 2000:1 contract ratio or whatever that most people worry and pay more money to get better picture quality. This TV will give you all that quality in HD mode. Only minor set back on this TV is that all cable connections are in the back where some TVs provide extra connections at the side of TV for easy access. But it's not a big deal, I can live with it.

Great value huge size HDTV,

This review is from: VIZIO VO47LF - 47" LCD TV - widescreen - 1080p (FullHD) - HDTV (Electronics)
I bought this at Costco in March 2008 and have owned it for nine months now. It is indeed a great TV and I have only two minor issues with it.
The built in clock and tv guide time listings are always incorrect. Despite fiddling around with Timezone and Daylite Savings settings, it always displays either the clock one hour off, or the tv guide listings one hour off, or both. Annoying but not a dealbreaker. There should be a software update! Also, voices appear lower than music or sound effects on all channels. I find myself working the remote a lot in movies with both dialogue and action, or even just in Late Night talkshows. I've tried fiddling with the equalizer the problem remains. That said, I am very happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend my 60hz Full HD tv, or the new 120-hz model. The digital tuner is quick and easy to set up, and the remote works great. I've hooked the TV up through the component, composite and HDMI inputs to my dvd, computer, etc and all works as expected. Also, I find 47" to be a perfect size even though it's only some eight feet from my couch. My living room has become a favorite movie night spot for quite a few friends...

Piece of junk... Do not buy this or any other VIZIO TV,
This review is from: VIZIO VO47LF - 47" LCD TV - widescreen - 1080p (FullHD) - HDTV (Electronics)
Purchased the 47 inch 1080P VIZIO. (rate negative star)
Lasted two weeks before it started to develop problems, the screen fuzzed during the day, but it would work beautifully in the evening, could not figure out why this was happening... then after a month all fizz all the time. Needless to say I called VISIO and customer service was either not helpful or would hang up on me by transfering me to a bogus number that gave a generic recording before hanging up. And don't try to call their extended warranty number... they refer you to VISIO and tell you that VIZIO must honor their 1 year warranty before they could look at it. - After looking on the net for VISIO reviews, it seems either the power board or the signal board is the problem, a common problem they don't want to address and something that would require a visit from a TV repair person. Note: I had an APC battery surge protector attached to it and no cable service (atsc antenna) and still the tv gave me problems (switching VGA, HDMI, etc. still produced this problem).

I bought this in July at BJ's Wholesale Club and I absolutely love it. I did a lot of research before deciding on a Vizio. I currently have it hooked up to a high end blu ray player, and the picture quality is outstanding. I am so happy I did not pay 15% extra or more for a Sony or Samsung, and also, it is fun for me to support the new kid on the block!
2 Big thumbs up!

This is my first LCD TV and I couldn't be happier. The picture is fantastic with HDMI input on HD channels, and pretty good with SD channels and comp. input. Beautiful design. Set came assembled and ready to go. 4 HDMI inputs. Decent speakers. Also has PIP you can program to show different inputs (you can watch the TV in the corner while a movie is on, etc.). Overall, a fantastic value.

We bought this Vizio television from Costco 2.2 years ago. Yesterday the TV turned off by it's self and blinked it's way to a slow death, now nothing but black screen. I went to Costco, they gave me a copy of my receipt and a phone # to call for help, well after 30 min. on hold with Costco's concierge service and Vizio, we were left high and dry, no help or replacement since the warranty is only good for 2 years. Bottom line is we bought 2 other LCD prior to this (Sharp brand) and have had zero problems with more use. I thought this was a great TV for a great price, but ended up learning and expensive lesson. Do yourselves a favor don't buy this brand, I don't blame Costco, although, they would be smart to distance themselves from this brand (read consumer's complaints and Vizio problems forums as they are all over the internet). Do research before you buy, please, don't make the same mistake we did.

An excellent alternative to Samsungs, Sonys and Panasonics,
This review is from: VIZIO VO47LF - 47" LCD TV - widescreen - 1080p (FullHD) - HDTV (Electronics)
I just purchased this set at Costco. It's the 30A version, which has been improved significantly from the 10A version. (these specs come from the manual that I received with the 30A version. The manual on the Vizio site is for the 10A version.)
- Better Display. The 30A uses a new panel which displays 1.07 billion colors. The 10A panel displays 16.77 million. - Better port access. There are now 2 HDMI, 1 Component, and 1 Composite connections all on the side. Another 2 HDMI, 1 Component, and 1 Composite connections, 1 s-video, 1 RGB around back. - Improved Contrast Ratio. They bumped up the contrast from 1000:1 (2000:1 DCR) up to 1300:1 (6500:1 DCR). - More Energy Efficient. It even appears they've improved the energy use from 280w avg to 157w avg. (set now featured on the Energy Star site). - Lighter Weight. The 30A version (59 lbs) tv is even about 18 pounds lighter than the 10A version (77 lbs) (perhaps due to the change in panel). - Thinner Bezel. The 30A version is now just under 44" w. The 10A was 44.5" w. I've have not noticed any off-angle color shifts or dimming unless you're at the extreme edges. Even the speakers are much better than I expected (although I use a surround system for movies, etc). I sat there at Costco and tweaked the Vizio until it looked better than the 46" 120hz Samsung sitting next to it (with the exception of really deep black levels and no 120hz). Overall, this is just an excellent set. The only things that would make it better in my book would be 120hz, even deeper black level, a swivel stand, volume limiting, and if it cleaned my floors for me. |
