This review is from: VMWARE FUSION 2.0 FLATPACK MAC (CD-ROM)
First let me just say that I'm primarily a Windows user, still pretty new to the Mac OS X. I've tried Parallels and now I've settled on VMWare as my solution to live in both worlds. My main problem and frustration with Parallels was that it seemed so slow and kept crashing. I do pretty intensive development work under WIndows so I need decent performance out of my VMWare... and I get it! So far I've been quite happy with VMWare Fusion 2.0. By setting up the network connection as "Bridged" I find that my WINdows programs connect directly to wifi and seem to have just as good a connection as the Mac programs do. What I like about VMWare so far:
1) Bridged internet is fast 2) I can allocate 2GB of RAM to Windows so it can run at full speed. 3) Windows programs run almost as fast as usual, although startup is pretty slow, everything else seems to run at a good clip. 4) Never crashes, unlike my Parallels. I have left it running for days with no problems. I even put the Mac to sleep and VMWare is still running when I wake it back up. 5) Most of my Windows programs run under VMWare. 6) The VMWare window resizes extremely adeptly as I move it around to different displays and resolutions. Automatically sizes the Windows screen as needed. 7) Handles transitions and clipboards between Windows and Mac quite smoothly. 8) Shared documents folder works very nicely. 9) Easy to configure to connect to USB devices. 10) Macbook Pro Wifi actually seems to work better through VMWare than it does through bootcamp when I boot under WIndows. Overall, I'm very happy with this product and currently using it day in and day out. Finally I can run from the Mac side reliably. The only reason I give it a 4 (perhaps it deserves a 4.5) is that there are a couple of Windows programs that I run under Windows which just don't work quite right. This seems to have something to do with DCOM, I don't know for sure. I don't think this would be a problem for most users.
