I'm IT technician for me this is an excelent software.I received 2 cd, both cd are for windows and linux OS, but the best is one of them is for 64-bit OS (Linux 64-bit and windows 64-bit) and the other CD is for 32-bit OS (Linux and windows).

I had difficulties installing the product as shipped on Fedora. I am computer literate, but inexperienced with Linux, so attribute it to that. That being said, I downloaded the most recent bundle file from VMWare's website and it installed easily using the instructions supplied. I have used VMWare extensively at work, and I can fully recommend the product. It is the best all-round desktop virtualization I've used. It is a very mature product with an excellent feature list. You can also move VMs from platform to platform with VMWare. I run Windows built VMs on my Linux box with no issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Workstation for Linux 6.0, April 8, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: VMWARE Workstation 6 (Version 6.5) (CD-ROM)
Recently became interested in computer forensics and live view. Workstation works for this well. My first version was Win4Lin Pro about three years ago. This product works much better. Programs don't crash as they did before. I emailed Vmware and told me that if you buy version 6.0 you can upgrade free to 6.5 for free. I got this one for about 80.00 bucks which is about 100.00 cheaper than new. It is a bitch to install using version 6.0 with Linux-need patches and then VMMON (monitor needs to be worked out-have to hack a configuration file and then re tar etc...
Easier to buy version 6.0 for linux and then upgrade to newer version....
for me anyway using Slackware 12.0 or 12.2 (noticed Automated Image and Restore does not want to work under 12.2 for me)...

One really cool thing-I thought I was buying just Linux version. But you get 32 bit version for Linux and Windows and 64 bit programs... Can't go wrong-and I would suggest getting a used version and avoid the new price...

Pretty neat to have Slackware going and then be able to open up VmWare Workstation and have Windows XP on same pc. You can learn to program in Perl from Slackware terminal using vi and then go create a word document for class using Microsoft Office under Windows XP. No more dual boots using Lilo.

Read Windows Forensic Analysis book by Carvey and he seems to do all malware analyis and forensic analysis using VMware. He says you will not infect your pc with an infected image. Either way is very cool to be able to create an image of hard drive using dd and then use liveview to open up file and see it boot, also download any live cd from someplace such as distrowatch.com and can boot any iso image. Just is cool-can't go wrong with VMware-get it!
