The Cloud and Virtualization are two of the hottest topics in the IT world right now, and if you don't know about them you are going to be left in the dust. This book and especially the chapters by Mr.Kusek get right to the point, and act as a great go to guide. Even better? Mr Kusek, one of the authors has a blog where he discusses these topics and more, so he is easily accessible at pkguild dot com to those looking for more information on infrastructures, virtualization and "the" cloud!

If you are new to VMware and learning this book goes great with Scott lowes book, or planning and implementing vsphere. As stated this is a HOW TO GUIDE, it takes you through setting up services and what not, vDs/vmotion/MPIO(if i recall right)/Iscsi/NFS/ect, basically all the cool features of VMware are there for you too look and see step by step how to do it. I am a VMware engineer and use this to double check myself when I am about to reconfigure something on an important cluster, great little book, and for <20bux it is worth it.

It is also a great tool when people tell you 'no that isn't how you do it', you can point to them and say 'no you do it this way'

I've worked with several of the vmware products in varied environments and cannot recommend this book enough! It covers a good amount of information about vSphere 5 in a nice compact form. This book would be a great resource for those who are just getting their feet wet with vSphere as the authors write in a very down to earth and easy to understand manner. Is is also perfect for understanding the new features and caveats that vSphere 5 has brought to the table. Each new version of vSphere and ESXi (aka vSphere Hyper-Visor) bring substantial changes which a book like this can help you to rapidly understand so you can start using them to benefit your organization or clients. This book definitely has a place on every IT Administrators bookshelf.

This book was just want I needed. We had decided to make the transition from VMWare ESXi 3.5 to 5 and because we were moving from 3.5 the transition was somewhat different as it would require a full clean install as opposed to a staggered upgrade. This book allowed me to get some very valuable insight and knowledge on the changes and features within vSphere 5 and allowed me to work out some of the transition upgrade challenges ahead of time.

This book is easy to follow and digest even for a beginner and is still a nice reference for someone familiar with VMware and virtualization in general.

Very good book a beginner or an old VMware pro. The book gives enough information for a beginner to get a real understanding of what virtualization is but yet it has enough advance features for the more advanced engineer.
