The clustering deep dive is a great balance between entry level explanation of vSphere features to advanced/expert level concepts and architecture. Even as a VCDX, this book is still valuable and ensures I maintain an expert level knowledge with the new version. I recommend this book to anyone from pre-VCP all the way to current VCDX holders as they will benefit from this book.

I purchased this book to supplement my study material for the VCAP exams. I would highly recommend this book for any VMware administrator. Duncan and Frank present the material in a well organized and easy to follow manner. They explain in great depth how some fairly complex mechanisms operate (IE: DRS/HA), and they do it very well. Every example discussed in the book is accompanied by a simple diagram, so you are never left guessing about what they are trying to explain or focus on.

I have been managing ESX clusters since 2005 with v2.5. And I found this book to be very enlightening. After reading it (and re-reading it), I can finally wrap my head around several processes that I never fully understood in the past. Now I don't just know "how" Storage DRS works, I know why it works.

I highly recommend this book!

While I haven't finished the DRS section of this book, the HA portion did help me to understand the process that ESXi hosts go through when marking a VM as protected with HA, as well as the procedure that is followed when a host takes a dive.

Great bit of reference material, I plan to finish it and re-read it once or twice in preparation for the VCP exam.

Very informative, clearly written and the authors certainly know their stuff. I would have given it 5 stars except for the glaring lack of an index.

If you have anything to do with virtualization you are doing yourself a disservice if you don't own this book. Frank and Duncan write well and explain rather obtuse topics in a way that is understandable and easy to read. It covers all aspects of Clustering and DRS for beginners and experts alike. Do yourself a favor and buy this book today, highly recommended!
