5.0 out of 5 stars Sammy's Best
I know a lot of people will disagree with me, but in my opinion, this is Sammy's best album of all time. Keep in mind I'm a huge Hagar fan and love ALL of his recordings. I Can't Drive 55 is one of his best rockers ever, and I love the guitars on Dick in the Dirt. Two Side of Love is a great change-of-pace ballad. To me, every song on this album is awesome. 2.0 out of 5 stars Too much synth rock
I'm sure I will have to take some slamming for this review. Apparently everyone else thinks VOA deserves 5 stars. I must be listening to a different album. To my mind, VOA represents Hagar's weakest effort for Geffen, noticeably slacking when compared to Three Lock Box and particularly Standing Hampton. I realize it was 1984, but what the hell is up with all those...

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for any Sammy Hagar fan!, July 27, 1999

VOA is a high-octane song. Don't make me wait too long is a very moving song. I can't drive 55 is a must for any serious rock collector. Rock is in my blood is true Hagar rock. The blistering energy on this CD is amazing just like the Van Halen album, 5150, and will go down in history as 1 of Sammy Hagar's best albums of all time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great CD by Sammy!!, June 14, 1999

This is the third album in the Geffen trilogy of platinum albums that put Sammy into true rockstar status. "I can't Drive 55" and "Two Sides of Love" are the most popular songs here, but "Swept Away" is a great tune!! This music is all Sammy, and while possibly the weakest (if you can even call it that!) in the Trilogy, it stands by itself as a fantastic album. I strongly recommend this one, but don't miss "Standing Hampton" and "Three Lock Box" while you're at it. This music truely withstands the test of time and will make you happy!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sammy's Best, July 16, 2008
This review is from: Voa (Audio CD)
After years of touring, releasing cd's, Sammy finally acheived commericial success with VOA. His biggest song of his carreer "I can't drive 55" is on here, along with other classic tracks. My personal favorites are "Rock Is In My Blood," "Burning Down The City" and "Swept Away." Sammy joined Van Halen after this cd was realeased. He was at the height of his career as solo artist. Sammy's best cd.
If you get any Sammy cd, this is the one. A timeless classic.

4.0 out of 5 stars surprisingly solid album from Hagar, December 18, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: VOA (Audio CD)
In general, I don't consider myself a Sammy Hagar fan. Prior to picking up a copy of 1984's "VOA", I'd been listening to 1986's "5150", the first Van Halen album with Sammy, and was seriously turned off by Hagar's unimaginative, 'straight-down-the-middle' wailing, not to mention his extremely tasteless obnoxiousness in spots such as the beginning of "Good Enough".

Despite all that, I was reminiscing fondly over the unforgettable, gloriously 'dumb' rock classic "I Can't Drive 55", the first track here, so I grabbed a copy of "VOA", thinking, "what the heck, let's give it a try", and I'm really pleasantly surprised. The excellently crafted "Swept Away" alternates dreamy acoustic guitar-laden verses with driving hard-rocking choruses. "Rock Is In My Blood" is an irresistible, intoxicating rocker with an anthemic singalong chorus. The title track is a hook-heavy, fast-paced rocker that really gets the blood flowing, although the 'patriotic' lyrics are a tad much in spots. The downbeat album closer "Burnin' Down The City" is solid as well.

The major sore spots of the album arrive in the form of a couple 'pop'-flavored tunes. "Two Sides Of Love" is a cringe-worthy, screamingly generic 'power ballad'; "Don't Make Me Wait" is in the same general mold and also forgettable.

Overall though, if rock is indeed in your blood [sic], "VOA" is a highly worthwhile album.

5.0 out of 5 stars "The Red Rocker" does just that, ROCK!!, September 11, 2003
This review is from: VOA (Audio CD)
There are some albums that make a difference in your life. You remember where
you were and what you were up to when it came out. This is one of those albums,
for me. I first heard "I Can't Drive 55" on the local pop station in 1984. Soon
after, MTV was blasting that great video! I was hooked! Up to that point I pure
pop. This album, along with "Pyromania" by Def Leppard, were the first two
albums to get me into rock. They opened the door to Van Halen's "1984" and
many other great albums. I remember begging my parents to "get me this tape!"
Even after "I Can't Drive 55" faded from pop radio, TOO FAST, I was still
listening to this album. No, this is not the best album on the planet. No, It will not
save the environment or make you think of starving children around the world. But
if you want a FUN album that does not take its self to serious, this is for you.

Most Likely Sammy's Best album ever. But lets skip the typical Blah Blah Blah. there is a Song "VOA" which is the name of the album. "VOA" Is the abbreviated version of "Voice OF America". This is a pumped up rocker with lots of attitude. The only drawback is that the song is over 10 years old and I think Most radio stations forgot how good it is. IF they play it once, They will play it all day long.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD From A Great Artist/Human Being, January 28, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Voa (Audio CD)
VOA is Sammy Hagar's seventh great solo album in a row from his Capitol and Geffen years combined, and it's great to see it finally get the deluxe reissue treatment it deserves. It's unfortunate that STANDING HAMPTON and THREE LOCK BOX haven't gotten similar treatment, but that's probably because they're still in print, whereas this one went out of print a few years ago. Fortunately, the good folks at American Beat Records saw fit to reissue VOA, restoring it to Hagar's catalog. Hagar's advocacies of sanctions against countries that falsely convict foreigners, capital punishment/life without parole for kidnappers, and increased funding for law enforcement make this CD an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.

I would like a copy of Sammy Hagar's Voa CD! If The Manufactor starts making more of this album and title without ripping me off around a scary price tag of $150.99 to $500.00 Soon. I don't have the money or time to purchase this joker of a album because the item is too expensive!
