Book Description

Six months after strange messages lead David Chance through a gauntlet of lies and terror, they are back—this time drawing him unwillingly into a murder mystery involving an elusive teen with a mysterious gift.

Jon Blake is a troubled teen with faint aspirations of escaping Boston and attending college, but when the voices in his head save his life and begin revealing hidden secrets, he finds himself lured into a national conspiracy involving the FBI and powerful businessmen.

These two lives, guided by unknown forces, weave together in unexpected twists toward one inescapable conclusion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hileman Has Done It Again! April 18, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
When the author released this book, I was ready to read it. I liked his first book in the series, Messages, very much. Let me be honest; I like David Chance the main character. The plots in Hileman's books are always great, but I am a character-driven reader. David is the kind of character who drives me back to a book.

In Voices, John Michael Hileman has written an action-packed suspense novel full of all the key elements readers want - twists and turns, mystery, characters you're not sure of, and a couple you do not like - even a little. Hileman weaves the faith part of the story in naturally; it's there; it's real, and it fits. Believers and unbelievers alike will connect with David Chance - the man who is a doubter and hesitant seeker. The man hearing Voices.

Then there's Jon Blake - the teen with more trouble and hurt than a kid should have to bear. And now, he's hearing them too - voices. Lots of them.

Voices picks up seamlessly where Messages left off.

In my opinion, John Michael Hileman has done it again - he's written an excellent book! And,while the end of the book is satisfying, I closed my copy looking forward to the day I could return to David's world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Voices by John Michael Hileman February 12, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Once again, Hileman delivers. In his latest book in the David Chance series, "Voices", he grabs the reader from the first word and sends them on a blazingly fast ride to the end. If you love suspense...if you are intrigued by characters that come to life and entice you to invest emotional energy, "Voices" will not disappoint you. Hileman's latest book has more than enough twists and turns and unexpected action to delight any discriminating reader. If you haven't read Hileman's first book in this series, "Messages", you will find yourself compelled to go back and read it as quickly as you can. In "Voices", Hileman continues to build on his primary character, David Chance, and introduces a new character, Jon Blake. The intertwining action between David and Jon's storylines carry the action along at breakneck speed. What could be more adrenalin-producing for a reader than the prospect of having a book's main characters meet dangerous ends? With almost every page, you worry that Jon, David, or one of the other characters will step into a life-threatening situation. You hope against hope that they remain safe...and that they are able to connect somehow to work together and solve the underlying mystery. And you watch, and wait, and pray that the next danger will be avoided or overcome. Hileman has the innate ability to create vibrant and rich characters you just know you could meet around the corner if you time it right...and you find yourself wanting to do just that. It's clear Hileman knows his craft, and, as a result, he's provided his readers with believeable suspense and books that just beg to be read again. I, for one, cannot wait for the release of Hileman's next book in the David Chance series.

5.0 out of 5 stars great read! February 10, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Really great story--intricate, thought-provoking, and full of surprises. I would recommend it to anyone. Second in a series but stands alone just fine. Starts with a bang and then unbelievably ramps up even more at about the halfway mark. If you're looking for a book you can get lost in, you don't need to look further.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed May 8, 2013
By lola
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I loved reading Messages. It kept my interest nonstop. Voices, the second in the series had the totally opposite effect on me. It went from scene to scene, from person to person, without giving me one reason to care about any of the characters. The action was as quick as a flickering strobe light with no substance. I thought I'd enjoy this book as much as the first, but I didn't! And I sure wont be ordering the third book when it comes out, which is a surety since the ending leaves one with more unaswered questions than answered.

4 stars great book. Page turning mystery. No bad language, looking for more like this. Publishers pay attention, majority of readers appreciate not reading language that offends. Readers you will NOT be offended in this book! John Michael Hileman keep up the great work. Thank you!

1.0 out of 5 stars Did Not Enjoy March 4, 2013
By Bea
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I guess I'm the minority here, but I did not enjoy this novel. I had to chew through this book to finish it and when I was done, I was relieved. It started off well and I liked the premise of the voices communicating to Jon and David, but I never quite got what this was all about. Was it extraterrestrials or not, virus or not and why? Why was all of this going on and what was the resolution?

There were too many characters which didn't add depth to the story and left things hanging for me. There was no follow-up on what was going on with Jon's father; why did the author add more characters for the plane crash episode (when an earthquake could have driven the same conclusion), the leap in time of 10 days from the crash until the discovery in the bank left me confused. But finally it was over and I thought really? Sharon hears voices too! A lot left undone, probably as a lead-in to book #3.

Maybe I had to have read book #1 to understand this book, but I won't be reading a sequel if there is one. I'm pleased others liked Voices, but I was bored with it and do not consider it very good.

The story moves fast and keeps you engaged. Certain characters are not well defined, but it remains enjoyable. You don't have to have read the first of the series, but it helps.
