5.0 out of 5 stars Better than most phones I have!
The phone does appear and install (and works) without the driver installed, however (the first reviewer stated this as well) the ringer is not that loud. UNLESS you install the driver software, then it is actually VERY loud. And also the buttons do not work on the phone until you install the driver (which integrates perfectly into XP and Skype).

3.0 out of 5 stars Looking for an inexpensive USB Phone
I was looking for an inexpensive USB Phone for my laptop. This phone is very lightweight, making it portable and the audio quality is fine.

Unfortunately there are no drivers that I can find to make the keys work. I must use the dialing buttons on my computer screen/SIP software to make it dial. While this is not a horrible issue, they should label it better...

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than most phones I have!, January 27, 2007

The phone does appear and install (and works) without the driver installed, however (the first reviewer stated this as well) the ringer is not that loud. UNLESS you install the driver software, then it is actually VERY loud. And also the buttons do not work on the phone until you install the driver (which integrates perfectly into XP and Skype).
When the Phone is disconnected, it will default back to your soundcard automatically, so if you get a call it will always work one way or the other. It has an LCD display which displays useful information (caller ID and length of call, and time date) but does NOT display unless the drivers are installed. So I suggest installing the drivers, even though the basic sound functions DO work without it.
Very economical and VERY GOOD deal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great device works with Skype--I have a solution if the sound does not work., August 9, 2010

I had major problems with the audio of this device. But I found a solution, thank God for blogs!

On humble advice I would forward this message to all of your subsidiaries any retail store that sells USB audio devices! Anywhere in the world.

Just today I got the new USB phone audio interface. It of course uses the Windows audio drivers. A nightmare occured. When I plugged in the device Windows XP had the usual "detect USB device" come up. But to my horror it wound up saying "A hardware problem occured your hardware may not operate properly" something of that sort.

I spent over 4 hours trying to figure this whole thing out and I read the manual it came with. Tried all sorts of things oh brother! It still would not install. By the way this happened with a previous USB audio device, not made by this company, that did the exact same thing on my computer.

But to my luck I found out what the problem was! Thank God for the website that had this on a blog!:

In the c:\windows\inf folder there must exist two files:

wdma_usb.inf
wdma_usb.PNF

It is really the .inf file that is important. Some software seems to knock these out by renaming them to:

wdma_usbinf.bak
wdma_usbpnf.bak

I simply found the files, opened them and renamed them to the proper names. And lo and behold when I restarted my computer the USB phone worked!

Its easy to rename the files you just open wdma_usbinf.bak
wdma_usbpnf.bak and then save them as wdma_usb.inf
wdma_usb.PNF.

Its that simple!!

Anyone who works customer service for the company that makes this phone should know this. Like I said it happend with a previous USB audio device that I had and I would up selling it at eBay cause I was so frustrated.

I'm happy with the USB phone.

My guitar USB did the same thing and it cost me $100 luckily I found the great guy that posted this at a blog.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Skype USB phone I've tried., October 15, 2008

I'm keeping this baby... IT works.. And works.. and works.
I haven't had a lock up yet.
I've tried 2 wifi phone (that required a computer), and 1 bluetooth phone. All 3 locked up/crashed or required me shutting down apps and restarting them in order to "get it going again".

This thing works constantly, consistently and has good sound quality. The feel is a bit light; but heck; I use it with a laptop; so light is good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Yup, it works, December 16, 2006

This phone was recognized as an audio device by WinXP from the minute it was plugged in. I never did install the Skype helper software, because it just worked. Besides, these days I The sound is fine, though I wish the ringer were louder and the cord longer.

This would make a great present to someone who would enjoy free internet calling but is put by the headphones/mic config stuff.

In retrospect, I might have been happier with a USB headset because I don't really use the keys and screen, but this thing works and I have no regrets.

3.0 out of 5 stars Looking for an inexpensive USB Phone, February 25, 2011

I was looking for an inexpensive USB Phone for my laptop. This phone is very lightweight, making it portable and the audio quality is fine.

Unfortunately there are no drivers that I can find to make the keys work. I must use the dialing buttons on my computer screen/SIP software to make it dial. While this is not a horrible issue, they should label it better in the ads. I contacted the vendor's support, but was given links to some generic drivers specific to several programs such as Skype. I don't want to run it through Skype (or the others) so these didn't help. The drivers they furnished did not work on my software.

I will be keeping this phone as it works and the audio is as good as a regular phone. Drivers to make the dial pad work would be a great plus.

5.0 out of 5 stars really handy and inexpensive, September 7, 2010

I installed the driver via a download, as I use a Mac and only the Windows driver was included. I had no problem using the handset using Skype. I also had crystal clear sound using it on Google Voice, though I couldn't use the buttons for that due to a lack of a driver. Really the keys aren't much of an issue because it's probably easier to just use the program, but it's nice to be able to use the "end" button. It has a cord that's at least 6' long, so you can stray a bit from the computer whilst talking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Phillips VOIP 151 USB Phone, May 4, 2010
This review is from: USB VOIP Phone, Support Skype, Messenger (Electronics)
I purchased this phone to use with Skype. It works great! I have Windows 7 - 64-bit and truly, I was expecting problems. I was prepared to send it back. I just followed the directions and everything ran perfectly. My friends are happy that they can now hear me far better than with my microphone! I love this phone and for the price I am very pleased. I would highly recommend it to any Skype user!

5.0 out of 5 stars does just what it I needed, March 8, 2010

I recently dumped my cable company's Digital phone service and needed a good way to dial out via voip using Skypeout (a nominal 3$/mon). This unit fit the bill perfectly, and works very well. I use my PC speakers to hear calls, and have had no problems with feedback or such. It connects via usb and comes with a CD with the skypemate software (you will need to download latest version of Skype. I got this unit for about 20 dollars including shipping. Would recommend this product.
