Product Description

The Vox AC15C1 Custom guitar combo amp offers maximum tonal dexterity to countless guitar players around the world. Featuring a single 12 inch Celestion G12M Greenback speaker that is driven by 15 watts of power, the AC15C1 Custom delivers that Vox tone that has been around for over 50 years. An Evolution in Tone Vox Custom Series amps offer two channels: Normal and Top-Boost. Each channel is equipped with its own Volume control, and the Top Boost channel offers highly interactive Treble and Bass tone controls. This powerful channel pairing provides an abundance of tone-crafting control, letting you dial in a classic sound that is all your own. Both channels rely on the Tone Cut and Volume controls in the Master section. The Tone Cut control operates in the power stage rather than the preamp stage, allowing an additional degree of tone-shaping. The Master Volume control works in conjunction with the individual volumes of each channel to create just the right degree of gain-staging. By balancing the individual and Master volumes, the Custom Series can deliver everything from a clean Vox chimey sound to a powerful overdriven tone. Sound in Motion You can sweeten the sound of your Custom Series amplifier using the Vox Classic Tremolo effect. Both the speed and the depth are adjustable, allowing you to generate just the sound you want. A warm Spring Reverb is also included on all Custom Series amps, adding spaciousness to the sound. All Custom Series amps can use the VOX VFS2 footswitch, allowing you to turn the Reverb and Tremolo effects on and off as you continue to play. Power Sharing The AC15C1 combo makes use of 3 x 12AX7 preamp tubes and uses pair of EL84 tubes to drive a single 12 Celestion G12M Greenback. All models in the Custom Series offer a switchable 8/16 ohm output jack for powering an external speaker cabinet when you need to speak with a little more authority; using this jack will mute the internal speakers. Additionally, a 2nd extension speaker jack all

The Vox AC15 is a legendary amp amongst recording guitarist, originating in the late 50's the AC15 was the amp for many aspiring musicians. In fact it is considered the first true amp dedicated for guitar! In all its British glory the amp has held through generations later, even with the advent of its larger brother the AC30. The classic tube amp has undergone a few changes of course over the last few decades and is now in possession of the American company Korg. Unveiled at the 2010 Namm show Korg made sure the AC15 Custom, otherwise known as the AC15C1 would be a hit.

The all new custom series is an attempt to strip the amp down to what matters most and unleash its raw revealing power. The custom series is the replacement to the 'Custom Classic' run of Vox amps. This model has a 'normal' channel, in my books, placing it leagues above its predeccesor the AC15CC1. The normal channel is the answere for many desiring a darker tone, in fact I feel it's a bit Fender tweed like. Rest assure the classic Top Boost channel is still available, and whether you play a Les Paul or a Telecaster it's going to rock.

The amp now makes use of metal switches instead of buttons, there are seperate volumes for each channel, and a overall master volume. The master volume can be lowered to kick into overdrive at lower volumes. Worth making a note of, without an a/b box you can't go between channels (Vox directly offers their VFS2A footswitch to remedy this). Though with a 'Y' cable you can blend both, granting some extra playability. A spring reverb tank is included. The reverb has a potent decay, and I've seen quite a few guitarist not take to it. A simple affordable mod option is to switch out the tank with an Accutronics 8EB2C1B which runs for about 25$.

So the AC15 that was released before this version (AC15CC1) had quite a few shortcomings but was a great starting point. It became a popular amp to modify and many online discussions talked about how to get great tone from it.

Well Vox listened to all of that!

The new AC15C1 has great improvements...
12" Celestion Greenback speaker
Metal power switches
Tone Cut knob
Better sounding trem and reverb
All around better sound

I am very happy with this amp. Its super chimey and has great VOX clean sounds then when you crank it up it gives you the perfect Brittish sounding growl. Couldn't recommend more and I think its a steal at $599!

I've had this guy for a little over a year now, after grabbing it in a trade. I like it a lot, particularly at its price point. For context, I've been playing for 20 years and have a bit of a gear addiction problem:) I currently own 7 tube amplifiers, ranging from the 6-watt VHT Special 6 Combo Amplifier, 6 Watts to the Fender Pro-Tube Twin Amp. Whenever I can't use my VHT, I generally use this amp. The features are covered in detail in the product literature and by other reviewers, so I'll jump right to my perspective after a year of use.

- It's pretty heavy. Actually, very heavy. This amp isn't much more fun to carry than my Twin, which is surprising given that the Twin is 77 pounds and this is "only" 47. Not at all a light amp. But with a nice folding cart like the Magna Cart Personal Hand Truck, it's certainly manageable.
- The input jack keeps coming loose. I'll be replacing it when I have time - but so far I've just kept it tightened and it hasn't failed.

- It sounds great!
- Really useful controls. Took no time at all to get the knobs to a point where I loved how it was reacting.
- For $600, it's hard to beat as a rehearsal or small club amp. The Fender Hot Rod Deluxe(TM) III, Black is probably its most direct competitor - but while the Fender sounds good, the Vox just has a certain life to it that others near it in price do not.
- Takes pedals beautifully.

I have a Marshall DSL401 and Mesa Boogie Rect-O-Verb combo and just recently picked up a VOX AC15c1 combo. I have always been tempted to get a VOX and hear that classic British rock sound. Finally I pulled the trigger and couldn't be happier. Lots of dynamic tonal range with the VOX. It may excel at clean, chime-like tones, but gets pretty nasty too.

The Tone cutoff knob and regular tone knobs give you a lot of flexibility when using the Top Boost input. Want to crank the highs? Easy. Want to bring the highs down? No problem. The Top Boost input gives more range of tone and more control over that tone. Reverb and Tremelo are included, An optional footswitch is available also.

I've been finding myself playing guitar a lot more lately, because of this fine amp. Sure, a Rickenbacker is almost the ultimate guitar to play through a VOX, but this amp has been making all of my other guitars sound terrific. Les Pauls/Strats, single coils/humbuckers...they all sound great. The clean chime is amazing. I get cleans through this amp that I have never gotten through my other amps (and my Mesa has a terrific clean channel).

One of the only tube amps that comes close to the VOX in value is the Fender Blues Jr, but I find the VOX to have a lot more tone (clean or dirty). For $550-$600, the VOX is a fabulous buy. As good or better than amps costing nearly twice as much. Not a bad amp to lug around either. Just under 50 pounds isn't exactly a lightweight amp, but considering the power (15 LOUD tube watts) and tone, it is well worth it. Don't be fooled by the seemingly low 15 watt rating. This amp is powerful and has plenty of punch for most any venue you'd be playing. No need to go to "11" on this powerhouse. Literally a "steal" at this price range.

One of my best gear purchases. A darn sharp looking amp too.
