I am a 45 year old 500 lbs Obese man with a torn ligament in my right knee. I am on the journey back to recovery from these issues and so I bought this chair soley on advertising and am very happy I did. It is of high quality fabrication and very easy to store, not taking up much more room than a regular folding chair although it is a bit taller and wider than your standard folding chair. It supports my weight without issue (no squeaking or grinding) and offers me a way to strengthen my back, legs, arms, chest, and shoulders and improve my posture.

I cannot overstate how good a chair this is for people that are in a rehabilitation or physical recovery situation. I think you will definately benefit and gain strength and stamina in a safe and efficient and fun manner. The one thing I highly recomend is that you purchase the cushion with it and that you get the higher level resistance cables that can be purchased seperately. The # 5 resistance cables that came with it do not offer much resistance although through high repetition you could get in a work out. This was well worth the price I paid and more than met my expectations.

I don't like to exercise because classes in the health clubs are full of young people who are extremely thin! All the videos I look at are the same - young people leading young people in exercises that are fit only for the young and fit.

The chair is easy to use. I've used it almost every day. A DVD comes with the chair that shows anyone how to set it up and how to use the chair. No screw drivers are needed. It stores easily on all 4 legs so it can't tip over. The exercises are easy. A chart which is included shows how to do the exercises. And the best thing about the chair and videos is that they show senior citizens, male and female doing the exercises.

Long story short:

My retired husband (65), suffering from osteoporosis and neuropathy, parked his nether region in a chair about 5 years ago and decided exercise consisted of changing channels on the remote. It hurt him to move. I could see him deteriorate and he always had an excuse for *not* exercising and didn't believe me. He had problems driving his car because he couldn't feel the clutch pedal (A Toyota MR2 convertible - He loves that pretty little car!) Then, about 6 weeks ago he couldn't even drive my car (automatic transmission) and started needing a cane to walk. He was dying. He is a small person, very slender.

Cut to the chase (from the perspective of a supporter of one who needs exercise) :

Get the chair and the cushion (see recommendation from E. Hernandez, plus my personal experience). Then get the beginning workout video ("Leisure Living"). Give lots of support. Next one might choose to purchase the mini bike pedaler attachment or anchor cables with higher resistance. I bought both and he is not anywhere close (in the next month or two) to tackling those.

This is *SAVING* his life and he believes this too - his deterioration was so sudden that it scared him. This is changing his life and his mental attitude toward his life (he says he will be driving again in November - I believe that he just might do this). He is no longer shuffling when he walks and his skin color is better, and the deep circles under his eyes are going away). All this improvement cannot be attributed solely to the resistance chair (eating better etc) yet this thing (the chair) has shown him that he can improve - it's not easy for him and it is *SO NOT HARD* that he just gives up in frustration.

On the equipment - very well made (I cannot believe it is priced the way it is). Customer service is excellent.

update feb 2014 QUR CHAIR STILL LOOKS GOOD AND WORKS WELL.

The chair is a real value buy. It is exactly what the manufacturer claims it is quality exercise equipment for people who cannot use everyday exercise equipment. I'm surprised at the quality and commonsense design of this chair for the price. I've owned department store junk that cost much more and I've owned professional quality home equipment that cost over $1,000. None were nearly as easy to setup and use.

We get serious quality for our $279, a real buy. I have trouble walking but I was able to bring the box inside and setup the chair by myself. I was surprised how easy it is to setup, fold and move. Despite the solid heavy duty quality, it weighs only 28 pounds and it comes ready to use. All I had to do was unfold it, sit on it and use it. The two sets of cables are already installed. The step and back (posture) attachments are lightweight and easy to install.

Warning. Nothing is perfect and this truth applies to the Resistance Chair. If you have mobility issues as I do, you may want to install the step only to the back of the chair or not at all. I placed it in front and nearly fell trying to get on the chair the first time. Use care the first time you sit on the chair with the back (posture) attachment installed. ESPECIALLY if you are large bodied. It doesn't leave you with a lot to sit on. With the step attachment in front and the back attachment installed, you can easily miss the seat and fall to the floor.
I removed the step and being used to the small seating target left by the back attachment, I have no more safety concerns.

Given whom the Resistance Chair is intended for (and marketed to), the manufacturer should have include warnings about seating yourself the first time.
