These phones suck! I'm on my second set and have yet to be able to get it to connect. It just sits on yellow. Apparently this is a common problem. If you are one of the lucky few who actually got them to work, yeah for you.

The problem is with the software used in the phones. They should have gone with a simple sip config such as what's used on linksys units,...

This is a really great phone. The range is good and the sound quality is excellent. We also really like the Vonage system, which has worked exceptionally well for us. It works GREAT with broadband, and doesn't slow down even if you're downloading a lot of files, or playing online games.

My only gripe is with the Vonage rebates, which are terrible. Put simply, Vonage doesn't pay. Once they've got you signed up what are you going to do? It's too little money to switch, and so you won't... but you'll be out $50 or $100. So buyer beware, I suppose. On the vonage forums one poll indicated that 70%+ hadn't received rebates... so be careful here.

In spite of the rebate ripoff, I do love the product. So I guess that says something!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best cordless phones I've owned, October 15, 2008

I have never been so pleased with a phone as I am with this set. We purchased these phones to replace a piece-of-junk Uniden set that didn't work more than 4 feet from the base and had so much static you couldn't have a conversation on them. I am so glad I did. The sound is clear, the phones hold a charge for an excellent amount of time, and they have some really great features. I love that they share memory, so you only have to program the phonebook once and it is automatically available in the other handset. I love the voicemail waiting display that tells me not only if I have messages waiting, but how many. The speaker phone works well, giving a good sound quality with less of the ambient amplification you often find in speaker phones. Overall, I highly recommend these phones to anyone with Vonage for their phone service.

This is a great product, and I'm saving money every month. I wanted to change over to VoIP but didn't want to mess around with phone wiring and such. The VTech 8100-2 system was a great solution for me. All I needed to do was to connect it to my cable modem and with it's wireless handsets, my whole house was online with VoIP.

The only problem I've run into has been if my computer is heavily downloading, and using up most of my bandwidth. With that happening, I've had the sound cut out on my phone calls. I've been told that if I had a router that supported QOS, I could avoid that problem.

I was paying about $36 a month for my old phone service, plus about $20 a month for Long Distance charges. Now, $24.95 gets me unlimited long distance in the US, Canada, and PR... So I'm saving a bit over $30 a month.

4.0 out of 5 stars Vonage For Convenience, July 30, 2006

I've heard the horror stories about Vonage, but it is a very good service for someone like me who travels regularly. I signed up for Vonage while stationed here in Iraq and I have not had any problems at all. I even purchased a "virtual" number to use between locations that I can access without a router/adapter. My family can call me no matter where I am in the world as a local call to them. I tried Skype and was very disappointed, but Vonage is worth it to keep in touch with my family. And being able to have a regular phone like the V-Tech is great because I don't have to wrestle with a headset or earpiece. For me it makes being on the road or deployed like being at home.

The problem is with the software used in the phones. They should have gone with a simple sip config such as what's used on linksys units, but no. Vonage has no clue how to fix it, you get nothing from VTech and even the computer geeks in the forums are at a loss. They all say the same thing the software in the phones suck!

Save yourself time, money and aggravation and get the linksys product.

2.0 out of 5 stars Description was deceiving, May 20, 2007
The description of the product was deceiving. The photo showed a router and 2 handsets. The description talked about the router and both handsets. All I received was 1 handset.

1.0 out of 5 stars Vonage Yes - VTech No!, October 12, 2006
This review is from: V-Tech VTIP8100-2 5.8 GHz Expandable Broadband Caller ID Speakerphone System, 2 Cordless Handsets (Vonage Certified) (Office Product)
I've had vonage for a couple of years and it works great! I live in a suburban area with great utility wiring and maintenance and we have Comcast - this makes a difference in how well Vonage works. In our old house Comcast took over from Jones cable and we had more problems until Comcast invested in replacing old Jones wiring and equipment since then it has worked great.

VTech Broadband Phone -

When we moved I thought I would just get this instead of altering the phone lines to use our linksis router - big mistake! This turkey did not even cluck. Vonage customer service did their best but nothing ever happened.

I returned this, had vonage register my phone with my old device again got a friend to set up the phone lines to work for us and have been happy ever since.

If it is supposed to be easy to set up and use then a company should ensure that is the case before they send out a product marketed as easy that actually requires a membership card to the techie club to figure out.

This review is from: V-Tech VTIP8100-2 5.8 GHz Expandable Broadband Caller ID Speakerphone System, 2 Cordless Handsets (Vonage Certified) (Office Product)
Great seller by the way. It took no time to arrive at my home.

The V-Tech VTIP8100-2 is great. Temporarily, I live in a basement apartment and the basement has little to no cell phone service. So I decided to get Vonage because I live in someone else' home so I couldn't just use their phone line. However, I am allowed to use their wireless internet. I called up Vonage and told them that I didn't need the adapter they usually send out because all I needed them to do was activate the base adapter to this phone. Once activated, I simply plugged the ethernet cable into the house's wireless router and the back of the V-tech base. I charged up both handsets and was ready to talk. I might be using this phone set everywhere I move. The sound quality is just great.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Completely happy am I! You'll have to get vonage to help set it up (maybe-my connection took a while to go through). But after that headache, it is a fantastic purchase. This is definately not a plug-and- play item.

I'm glad to clean up the old telephone wires, too. Vonage help was fantastic. It just took about an hour.

DOWNSIDE: Only one port so you CANNOT hook up multiple computers to the router.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great System, February 17, 2009
This review is from: V-Tech VTIP8100-2 5.8 GHz Expandable Broadband Caller ID Speakerphone System, 2 Cordless Handsets (Vonage Certified) (Office Product)
I've had Vonage for over 4 years now and after the initial setup I've been very happy. And you can not beat the price, except for the MagicJack, which I have no experience with and you loose your existing # with that system, but so far everything I've read has been bad. Hence my reasoning behind staying with Vonage and just updating my old router and really old house phone. I bought this system (2 phones) for $30 on eBay with shipping, so shop around! Not sure if I'd spend $140 on too much now a days, unless I really had to. There were also the one phone systems for $20. And this does include the router. So just saying, shop around. Watch for bad feedback, but if you take the time you can find a good seller and a better price then this.

The system itself? Clearer than my old Radio Shack cordless (which served it's time very well). And the router is much faster than the Linksys RT31P2 that I got when I signed up for Vonage in 2005. It's not cutting up my internet speed the way the old one did either. I had recently purchased a new wireless router as well, thinking that was my problem because it was also ancient! I guess it was just time to replace.

Vonage would not give me the "new customer" deals advertised. Not sure about that. I wish companies would do something to reward customer loyalty. None of them do though, and with the price of this service I guess they don't have to either. But again $30 on eBay, so whatever. Just search Vonage on eBay.
