First I would like to say. Yes, he loves it. Yes, it's exceptionally educational (even teaches commas, quotations, question marks ect...) If I were a small I child I would love this thing to, but as an adult. Oh My Gosh. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Annoying. My son is 3 and has been able to read since the age of 2 (no exaggeration, would correct me if I misspoke during any of his dr seuss stories even before he could speak). So, when I saw this at Target the other night I knew he would love it.
Let me forewarn the parents about to buy this for their kids. The books are around 20 pages long with endless activities. But, did they include headphones so I wouldn't have to hear it OVER and OVER again. No. Also, they have censored the name part. My sons name is Warren, We can't put it in because the first three letters spell WAR. Seriously. Apparently War is a bad word in the 21st century. We just put in our last name and the little guy is happy with that. Caution, it's very addictive, I've resorted to hiding it on him and telling him that Mickey needs to rest. Overall, extremely entertaining and educational product for children. But for parents.... I pray that if you buy it, you have a large enough house where you won't have to hear it all day long.

Our two boys, who are 4 yrs old and 2 yrs old, got this for Christmas. They also got several of the books, which is great because they got a similar item a couple of years ago and now all the books are discontinued.
They love it and it's very easy to use. Our 4 year old is doing just great and our 2 year old (even though he can't read yet) has a great time picking his story. The real problem we have is that it won't let us type in our 2 year old's name. Like the other review here, our son's name is Christian. We can enter "Chris" but it won't let us enter a T. This is pretty inexcusable. Who is VTech (or Disney) to say what we can or cannot spell for the name? And the only time it's used is when the story first opens there's a screen that says, "Story by (name)". It doesn't actually speak the name or show it anywhere else. I mean, who cares if some kid without adult supervision writes something they aren't supposed to. So, apparently my son will never be able to write his name because VTech wants to parent every little thing. I think that's pretty rotten. By the way, if Christ did come to our house, who's VTech to say he can't write his own name???? :)

I got this one for my son to help him build up language...he loves it!. I just order some new books for it from amazon.com where else would I get such a deal...it's just the wire that connects to tv slot is making a little annoying noise and is kind of loose...battery power is not that long lasting either

I bought one used, but the description listed it in good condition. The toy wouldn't even turn on when I received it. My daughter didn't get to play with it at all. I guess it explains why they are pretty much off the market now.

My daughter received this for Christmas along with 4 additional cartridges. She loves it, but it simply stopped working today. A couple of the cartridges work sometimes, but definitely not enough to keep the product. I called VTech and their customer service seems great. They don't have anymore VTech Create-A-Story consoles, but are sending me one replacement cartridge to test. If it doesn't work, I've been told they'll give me a credit and that I just need to return the product. The only downside is that I have to pay shipping to return the product.

I purchased the create-a-story as a requirement for my son's daycare center. He is 3 years old and this is one of the learning tools they use at his school. Being that he recently turned 3 it is kind of hard to keep his attention because he wants to use the pen to point at the objects he wants to point at rather than what the book is telling him to point at. If he was a little more mature (maybe 4 or 5), this is a great learning tool. I don't get a chance to actually see him use it in school but all of the children have them so hopefully he follows instructions a little better than he did at home.

This Vtech toy was received very well by my 5 year old niece. She picked it up very quick and wanted new books to insert right away. The storys read a bit quick but I think she will be smart enough to pick it up.

I purchased this for my daughter for Christmas and it will not power on at all. It is completely defective. I am heartbroken because she was so excited to get it. Am shocked to read that V-Tech is making customers pay for shipping to return a defective item they made in a previous post. Good customer service would be for the maker to pay!
