This is one toy that hasn't been put down since it was opened. Also good for sending videos and pictures to family.
The only problem we've had is it sometimes can't find the files on the SD card if it gets a decent bump, you just have to pop it up and back in and it's all there. It doesn't come with an SD card but you should at least get a 1GB for hours of fun.
This has been dropped and banged MANY times and yet it still works
My kid is more then happy to use this
It has games built in for more fun
It does drain the batteries pretty fast with constant play
The quality could be a bit better but after all it is a toy so keep that in mind
However, after only about 4 weeks, the "Home" button which provides access to all the games and other menu features stopped working.
I had just missed the Amazon return date by a few days, but the camera has a 1 year warranty, or so the pamphlet said, anyway, but VTech's idea of a warranty is a lousy one.
I contacted VTech and they told me they could not replace the item.
They say that since they do not sell it on their own website, they are not able to send me a replacement, despite the warranty.
They said I had to choose a different item limited to the same age group. However, the only comperable item, which is lower quality than this but still a camera that takes videos (clunkier though) is $20 more. They would not even allow me to pay the difference if I wanted to, which I don't anyway.
I think they should replace the defective item. If they refuse to replace it, I think they should provide a comperable item, but they refuse to do that also. This means, I have to trade in the perfect present for one my daughter doesn't need or want.
I am so upset at how they are refusing to stand behind their product. They manufacture it and they provide it to Amazon, yet claim thay can not provide it to me. Ridiculous!
I will not buy another VTech product now that I know about their lousy service. I really thought they were a quality company because their products are so popular, but I have changed my mind and my daughter is extremely disappointed. I'm probably going to have to go and spend $50 now to buy her a new one.
It's one of those unexpected surprise finds. During the week prior to Christmas, Amazon had this on one of those speed deals for an excellent price, so I snatched one up thinking my daughter might just like it... and boy did she like it.
She enjoys plugging it into the TV and playing the games using the pictures she took. She has also figured out the video function and gets hours of fun play from that with her cousins making goofy skits.
It is durable (so far has made it through two daughters and seven cousins), the battery life seems to be very good and the quality of images is another surprise (for 2MP).
Get a SD card if you can because the on-board space will fill up fairly quickly. One downside to NOT having an SD card immediately upon first using this camera is that whatever pictures/videos are in the on-board memory are not available when the card is finally inserted. It is not lost, but the images/videos are not available for use in the games which bummed her out a first. Maybe there is a function to copy them to the card, but I don't know.
Overall this toy gets five stars from me. The amount of play for the amount of money is terrific, the build quality is very nice, the ease of use is there, as is the fact that the camera is not limited to on-board games only; it is an actual camera/video camera too.
