My 11mo. old daughter loves her cube, particularly the musical side with "piano" keys. It has 13 blocks with letters that can be inserted into a square, which then names the letter and has a fun tune to go along with it. It's fun, very durable, and a toy that she always goes back to on a daily basis.

My only problem, and a large problem for our family, is that the toy has bad grammar! Yes, you read it, they programmed the toy with incorrect English. For instance, our biggest pet peeve, is the letter "O." When "O" is inserted the toy says, "This be the letter 'O'." For some families, I'm sure this is not a big deal. For the daughter of two teachers, this is a problem.

I would still purchase the cube for the hours of entertainment it provides and musical playtime. The larger looming question for me: How have our standards slipped this far when it comes to language and communication, particularly in the area of a children's teaching tool?

My name is Nicole and I am an official representative of VTech.

Thanks so much for writing a review on the Alphabet Activity Cube. I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues with the voice recording for the letter "O ". I wanted to let you know that we are looking into the matter on our end. At VTech, we take pride in producing toys that are not only fun, but also educational. If you would like to discuss this further, please send me an email with your contact information to vtechkids@vtechkids.com and I will get back to you.

I snatched this up for Christmas when the price dropped from $50 to $40. The only side really worthwhile imho is the side with buttons, but babies play with socks, so I'm sure my daughter will play with the 'boring' sides, too.

As far a "It's me" vs. "This be" I honestly can not tell. If my child repeats it the 'wrong' way, I'll correct her. That isn't a big deal to me, really. I included a video and it sounds like "It's me" to me, but even if it isn't, it is close enough to teach my daughter that it is. Again, this isn't a big deal to me. NOT because we aren't educated, but because I don't believe it is saying it wrong in the first place, and I'd never let her repeat it wrong.

BUT the first time (and several times after) I put the A block in, it said H, plain as day. This annoys me. Yes, it is our job to teach our kids, but it could be confusing when they're being taught wrong by their toys. I'd never show my kid flashcards that show a picture of a dog and said "CAT" for example, because it is confusing. So, if my daughter repeats that mistake, I'll correct her as well.

I emailed the company that their "educational toy" is teaching the wrong letters, and that just isn't okay, but I never heard back. That is frustrating. They really should do something about a problem sooo many parents have, even if it is as simple as apologize or send a crappy coupon. To not reply at all is just unprofessional.

I will keep the toy, and I will still give it to her on Christmas. I will just pay attention and not let her repeat the wrong letters. Other than that, I have wanted this for her since I first saw it in the store and I'm glad the price came down a little so I felt better about splurging on it.

My daughter was given this for her 1st birthday and she loves to dance to the music and play with the blocks. Unfortunately when placing the block in the space for it to tell you what letter is, it doesn't state the correct letter! H is I and so forth! Not to mention the "this BE the letter _" it's horrible to think that she would be repeating that. I don't have the receipt since it was a gift and when I called VTEC they wanted me to send this HUGE toy to them and pay the shipping. I don't get how I should have to pay to replace a toy that is defective! It might end up in the trash!!!

This toy is great, my 8 month old uses it to stand as long as it's on the carpet, non carpeted floors it slides. It's also easy to carry, the bead chaser makes an excellent handle so you can carry it while holding your baby. Score! My baby girl plays with this alot, it has two settings and one of the if you press the piano keys will play consecutive notes in a children's songs, so instead of hearing random keys being smashed you hear twinkle twinkle little star or there's a few different ones. I really like that, makes it not annoying. When you put a letter block in it will say "I am the letter __", or "It's me the letter __", not this be the letter O smh hahaha. As for the letter mix up, mine doesn't have that problem. This product is really cool. My daughter and I enjoy it.

Update:
My daughter is now 17 months and still loves this toy and plays with it often. She actually uses all of the sides now. She actually really likes the block drop and storage side, and understands how to insert the blocks. :) I agreed at first it seemed kinda lame, but she likes it, and after all this time I just now changed the batteries, I didn't put the batteries in it in the first place, so when I opened the compartment I was surprised to see only two double A's. I really like this toy. Thank you V-tech. I do however, have one complaint, the blocks do not lock into the top, but it doesn't stop my daughter from having fun with it.

Update:
My daughter is now 34 months old and the toy is nearly two years old. I have now changed the batteries twice. -whew- So much work!! hahaha My baby girl loves this toy still and now knows the letters by name. Now she can use this toy to it's full potential!
