My son plays with this first thing in the morning. (Luckily there are two settings for volume) Alphabet Town lights up and 'talks' to him. There are many settings like: clocks, music, simon says, directions, spelling and phonics. I really like the music button. My son likes to dance to the music of all the songs I have sung to him. I find it a good value due the variety of activities. It also fits on his lap and is very portable. I love watching him learn while having fun.

I work with special needs children around 2-3 years of age and every one of them loves this toy. They enjoy it so much that I purchased another for my 3 year old and 5 year old boys. They both really enjoy it too. As described by other reviewers, it has many modes such as music, counting, phonics, spelling and telling the time. It also has a low and high volume setting. The music and words are of good quality and are clear, making it easy to understand. The children also like watching the keys light up during the activities.

My daughter started using this before age 1. It is a great product to use in the car for road trips. at just over age 2 she already knows all her letters! The one we had previous to this stopped working one day ( dropped too much? ) and I had to get another one ASAP! I'm disappointed these are not sold in stores any longer! HIghly recommend as different levels on it will carry her at least another year

The other day, I went to the toy section in my local department store. The typical junk toys, but then I came across this. I am VERY impressed by VTECH, this is a great learning tool, and it is also fun. My son is only 1.5 years old, he had a death grip on this thing after I showed it to him in the store. Not only does it teach the alphabet, it gives you words and then you are supposed to press the button. So Simple, yet genius. There are other games that you can play, which seems simple. (I like simple). For 20$, this thing does a lot of stuff. A great teaching tool to learn the alphabet. The sound is very clear for the person saying the words, I was also impressed with the quality of the sound effects and songs. Best $20 I have ever spent on a toy.

I am sure if you studied this unit, you could find a few things wrong. I mean its 99% right, and maybe 1% flaw with it saying buttons. My one year old will not be scarred for life because it says "buttons" instead of button. Show me another toy that has big buttons that light up like this, and does all this unit can do for $20. It doesnt exist

To the people who say "it's not loud enough" or it's "too loud" there is an ajustment. And for those who said it is broken, we dropped this thing VERY hard, I mean slammed it and it still works. If you liked it, just spend $20 and get another...

My mother bought this toy for our daughter when she was around 6 or 8 months old. It is a 3 year and up toy but there are no small parts so that's why she got it. That and the fact that my daughter is a button kid and loves pushing them and seeing the lights and listening/dancing to the music. That has been her favorite toy since she got it. She spends at least 2 hours with it a day. Usually she will spend an hour or two by herself in her room with it. On one setting it asks to find a letter and it will say it is near another letter. She was getting them wrong but we just noticed last night she really wasn't. It will say help me find something, it's near the "C". She was getting the letter it said it was beside instead of the letter it was asking for. Then when it said no, the letter is "D" (for instance), "can you help me find it", then she would get the D. We turned it off and asked her to find letters and she went through the entire alphabet without missing one!

This little girl learned her alphabet at 2 years and 20 days old. And only her and the man above knows how long before that she knew it! Get your child this toy and let them play with it as much as they want. Just wish it had numbers or colors and she would know them too by now.

Yes, it's cute and yes it lights up, but it's teaching the wrong things. I AM a teacher and the phonics section of the toy is totally wrong! Many of the consonants are mispronounced, adding the "uh" sound to the end. Also, when my son doesn't "perform" to acceptable levels, it boo's him and puts a big X on the screen. I'd much rather hear "try again" a thousand times than that. LeapPad products have accurate phonics and positive reinforecement.

I bought this for my daughter 4 years ago when she was 2. I'm happy to report that she doesn't say "libary" nor does she think "push a buttons" is proper grammar DESPITE the fact that she played with this toy every evening for quite awhile. My son also really enjoyed it and my youngest is just now starting to play with it. It's the same one, so I guess it's pretty durable. My kids love the music with all the flashing lights keeping the beat (I do too) and the large letters. It's great for teaching simple letter identification - the applause is a great touch. I love this toy because it's fun. It's educational too but it's fun enough and easy enough to manipulate that a child will sit and tinker with it for quite awhile. As the mother of 3 small kids, that is invaluable to me.
