Toddler pulling

The VTech Explore and Learn Helicopter encourages little ones to discover and learn with a cute puppy friend! Pulling the helicopter and spinning the propeller promote imaginative role-playing. Press on the piano keys, object buttons, and the puppy to hear fun phrases, piano sounds, and melodies. Dropping in the balls triggers counting, color identification, or a fun musical response while developing a sense of cause and effect. Baby’s curiosity is always rewarded with flashing lights, amusing phrases, sounds, songs and music.

The sky’s the limit to fun and learning!

The Explore and Learn Helicopter has two modes of play, learning and music. In learning mode, babies can press the piano keys to learn about letters, colors, animal names and sounds, and fun phrases. In music mode they will hear individual piano notes. Pressing the object buttons and the puppy button or spinning the propeller will play fun phrases, sounds, and melodies. Young walkers can pull the helicopter to hear phrases, sounds, songs and music. Babies will enjoy inserting the balls to count from one to four and will be encouraged to count again. In the music mode, insert the balls to hear the color identified followed by a melody.

My daughter received this toy as a gift at 8 months old. She is now 10 1/2 months old. It is a decent toy and my daughter likes it a lot, but it scores very high on the drive-me-crazy meter.

Pros:
-Lots of different sounds keep it fresh and engaging.
-Lights and sounds are fun.
-Balls, buttons and rotating propeller offer different ways to use the toy.
-Early colors, numbers, letters help with earliest learning.
-My daughter's first word is "bye bye" thanks to the sound when the toy shuts off.
-It sits in my bedroom and engages my wee one long enough for me to get dressed. This earns bonus points in my book!

Cons:
-Just look at it sideways and this toy will make noise. Today it started talking to an empty room. Not sure why.
-No volume control! This is a problem when someone is sleeping later than our busy baby.
-The balls are pretty hard to insert. Hopefully this will cease to be a problem as my daughter gets older, since the target age is stated as 1 year.
-TERRIBLE lyrics! "Animals" has four syllables, "too" has two syllables. What??? The songs could have been so much better if they had been given just a little more thought. This is a pet peeve of mine, and so counts as multiple demerits!
-Other sound functions are a bit contrived. One recording mentions "the blue bear" and the sound effect is a giggle. I get the alliteration, but why not the brown bear? Or if the color is important, a blue butterfly? And don't bears usually growl?

Hey V Tech, add a volume control and hire someone to write better songs and sayings and you'll have so much more of my business! As it stands we will continue to enjoy this toy (a beloved family member works on a helicopter, so that is what is most important to us) but I will not recommend it, and will not give it as a gift to anyone with whom I would like to remain friends.

My son has had this for about 8 months now (13 months to 21 months) and still loves playing with it.

However, it's so loud and the voice is really annoying! I would only buy this for a child who does not live in my house. If you are an aunt or uncle, or grandparent, and are sending this toy far away to a kid you love whose parents who will love you no matter what, then go for it!

I rate this toy Five Stars after we've watched our (eleven months old) baby girl play with it for two months. She never gets bored with this helicopter. Also I've seen this toy dropped 4 ft onto concrete floor without any damage. Main reason this toy is a hit are the four balls. Kids may tire of the noise-making buttons on toy, but they keep playing with the small (baby's hand-sized) balls for months and months. Our young baby first learned to play catch at nine months with these balls, then learned how put them into the top of helicopter to hear the sounds it makes. This toy can call out the color and the number as each ball is dropped into its top.

Highly recommended!

Mu son received this as a gift for his 1st birthday. This toy never shuts off. There's a switch and you would think that the middle position, which is a solid circle, would be for shutting the contraption off. But no, it has to shut off itself and God forbid you should, move, bump, pick it up to put away, breathe too hard etc... it will just come alive all over again. This thing has gone off at night when I try to put it away or literally when I touch it. I like toys that can be turned off. Lastly, just when you think its done talking it just keeps going lol.

My 15 month old really enjoys this toy. The only thing to be careful about is the cord...when she was younger it would occasionaly wrap around her so we only let her play with it when we were in the room. She learned quickly to put the balls through the helicopter blades and enjoys the different sounds and has fun pressing the buttons.

My daughter just turned one and she absolutely loves this toy. I like that it has educational value as well, and teaches early counting, letters, etc. She's been using it for about four months now, and it has held up very well, which is another plus. Overall, great toy!

My son got this toy as a gift for his 1st Birthday and absolutely loves it! He is plays with it, at least, 2 times a day. We have had it for 3 months and don't have any issues with it. The on/off switch works fine. My son somtimes will throw the balls onto the tile floor and they haven't broken yet. We haven't even had to replace the batteries yet, which is a shocker. Overall, great product!

My son as well as other children that come over gravitate to this fun toy.
It plays lots of familiar toddler songs and teaches basic things like counting and shapes. Great toy for 1 yr old and up with volume control:)!
