Overall, it is a great learning tool especially for young children who are starting to learn how to read.

After about 6 attempts the program installed but same exact problem with the pc not recognizing the toy when trying to down load a game.

I'll be honest--I didn't expect to be impressed by the InnoTab after being very familiar with LeapPad products.

This review is a basic comparison between the LeapFrog LeapPad2 Explorer, Green and the VTech InnoTab 3 The Learning App Tablet, Blue as I got the two within the same week and tried them with my twins. Here's how they stack up.

Memory: The LeapPad2 has a 4GB memory while the Innotab3 has a 2GB memory and can accept a microSD card up to 32GB

Buttons: Both tablets have the same buttons but the Innotab3 has a couple of extras viz a brightness control button, a help button and a lock button at the back for the battery compartment

Camera and picture quality: The LeapPAD2 comes with 2 cameras, one in front and one in the rear. The picture quality is decent, it does a good job of adapting to the lighting and it has video recording capabilities. The Innotab3 comes with a single camera that can swivel 180 degrees from front to back. The picture quality is very poor. I was extremely underwhelmed

Initial parental setup: Both tablets took a while (1 hour approximately) to setup the first time but the LeapPAD2 setup was easier and faster. The Innotab3 software hung-up on my computer a few times before I finally got it to install

Apps: Both systems offer a variety of movie, music and game apps. VTech's (for Innotab3) offered more apps, had a wider variety of characters (Hello Kitty was one that Leapfrog did not have) and the price of the apps ranged from $2.50-30 with the majority being around $5. Leapfrog's appcenter (for the LeapPad2) had fewer apps and they cost more.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
We bought our daughter her first Innotab the Christmas that they were first released and it was her favorite gift. From the start, I was never a big fan of the touch screen since it was nowhere near as responsive as even a cheap smartphone touch screen, but my daughter was happy with it, and it kept her busy for hours. Biggest complaint for me was that it ate batteries, and the only other option was to tie her down with a power cord.

Her camera broke shortly before the following Christmas, and the updated Innotab offered its own camera so we bought her and her two-year old sister each their own Innotab 2. The Innotab 2 was a mild improvement over the previous version, with a camera, microphone, and a few new apps. Turning the tablet on, the Innotab 1 would load to the user menu in 16 second, while the Innotab 2 took 26 seconds. Overall, it seemed a bit more sluggish, but it had a camera...

Now, the Innotab 3 if finally here, and I was actually looking forward to what they'd offer this time, hoping for a bit more of an improvement over the Innotab 2. No such luck, as the specs on paper were not impressive. 5" screen was reduced to 4.3", slightly improved camera, and a control pad.

OVERALL DESIGN: The Innotab 3 is, like the previous Innotabs, very well built... solid, and looks like it could take a few drops without issue. The new Innotab is smaller overall then the previous Innotabs, however even when my youngest daughter was 2 years old she had was able to handle the larger Innotabs just fine. Not sure if the smaller design is a positive or negative change. The first two Innotabs sported large corner bumpers made of rubber-coated plastic... the Innotab 3, due to its reduced size, no longer has the large bumpers and instead have a sliver of rubber on each corner.

I ordered my daughter the Innotab3 for her 3rd birthday because my little brothers have the Innotab 1 and she loves it. It came in today and to say I was disappointed would be an understatement. The whole unit is smaller and thicker which makes it harder for her little hands to hold it. The screen is smaller and the buttons are boring. They took the fun out of the outside of the unit. Sure its pink but it looks so much more grown up then the Innotab2. Lets let our kids be kids. Leave the cutsie hearts on the outside. Luckily Amazon is letting me return this boring looking pink mini fat tablet and i'm planning on buying the Innotab2 for her instead. Oh and one more thing....don't buy the skin it recommends...the innotab2 skin will not fit on the 3. Its bigger by about an inch all the way around.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
A selling point to the InnoTab3 might be that it--in theory, anyway--allows parents to add content to it: your own videos (more in a moment), photos (which can even be used as wallpaper!), and music. Children's tablets are often largely proprietary, forcing you to buy content exclusively from the company that makes the tablet, so the InnoTab3 allows more freedom for adding personalized content.

That being said, converting and adding videos requires non-provided software, and takes a long time to figure out. There are vintage cartoons, television shows, and movies in the public domain and available for download for free online; personal home videos can be added, too. So, it's a great feature, but utilizing it has a steep learning curve! I had to try multiple tutorials online and four different software programs. If you search for "Set Up My Innotab" on a search engine, there's a really good webpage by a dad of an InnoTab user, and he tells how to work with videos in good detail. I tried various tutorials and programs, and this is the only information that worked for me. Also, one tweak. Going through Learning Lodge didn't work--instead, you can treat the InnoTab like a Flash Drive and get into the Movie folder to add movies. (If you add a MicroSD card, you'll need to go through Learning Lab once so it recognizes it, though.)

VTech requires computer-based software (Learning Lodge) to download content--including right out of the box, not just add-ons--and manage content, and I also had problems with the download and installation process--it took hours. Their server seemed very slow at the time, so this could vary.

Here's the provided content, in the order the icons appear. Whether or not a section is empty can vary, depending on the free app you download.
