In my opinion, nothing is quite like shopping for a new cordless. Its a risky investment. First there's the phone itself, then you have to worry about batteries, and then static from neighbors. Well, I am happy to say, this phone has got just what I need, at the price I like, with features that are just right. This is a two handset 2.4 ghz phone. One base plugs into the phone socket, and the second base just needs an electrical outlet. With a two story house, this additional handset has quickly become my favorite feature. We keep one handset downstairs and the other is upstairs. Can't beat that! The colors on the phone are different that I'm use to, but they are pleasant in person and seem to blend in well with my neutral decor. The keypad and caller id screen are illuminated in soft orange light when buttons are pushed or the phone is ringing. I like that each phone can have a 'name'. You can program each phone with any text you like. For example, one phone's display reads "Downstairs" and the other is "upstairs". I never have to wonder if one floated to the wrong floor. The intercom phone to phone feature is a nice bonus as well as the built in speakerphone on each handset. No more do I have to use my shoulder to hold the phone if I'm changing a diaper. Just press 'speakerphone' and the caller is amplified. Its a feature I never had before, but now would not want to be without. I started shopping for a new phone when our new neighbors moved in and our 900 mhz started going haywire. I have yet to experience any feedback, hissing, or picking up others calls. I'm happy with the sound quality. My only reservation about this phone prior to purchasing, was another review that stated the caller ID wouldn't allow you to call back a specific call if your area required an area code or 1 prefix. Although its lacking from the instruction manual, when reviewing a number from the caller id list, you just have to push the # key. For example, my local calling area requires the 1 prefix and the area code. If I want to call someone back from the caller ID, I scroll to the number, then press the # key and it adds the digits I need. The batteries for this phone are AAA rechargeables. I like that. Too many times I have searched for replacement cordless phone batteries and paid too much! I expect these batteries will last longer, and be more economical in the long run. Lastly, purchasing this phone didn't break the bank. I'm completely happy with my purchase. The only negatives I could even think of, are (1) When I'm trying to unclip the phone from my back pocket, I often hit the volume switch while trying to remove the phone from my pocket. (2) When programming the phone (ex. adding a number to the phone book or selecting one of the 10 different ring patterns) there is a confirmation beep that sounds when you have completed the programming. Its quite loud, can't be muffled if the belt clip is in place, and doesn't seem to be affected by the phone's volume levels. Its only when you're making a change to the programming, but its still loud. That's it. Hope this helps you decide.

There are few phones on the market that have the same features as theise phones. There's caller ID and a headset adapter (headset not included). There's a digital display of the number you last dialed. There's a timer that keeps track of how long you've been talking. There's a speakerphone on both phones, as well as a phonebook. You can even use the phones as an intercom. The charging stations on both phones require very little counter space. The master base station even has a "new voice mail" indicator light that works with the phone company's voice mail system. Other manufacturers sell similar features for 2 to 3 times the price, and few products are as complete as these phones. Now the bad stuff. The body of the phones is made of low-quality plastic. They are cheap. If you leave the handsets in their rechargers for too long, they become uncomfortably warm. The phones are half-duplex meaning you can't hear yourself talk (even without the speakerphone). You can't tell the difference between talking "live", or whether you haven't turned on the phone yet (when moving from one handset to the other), or whether you're on mute. That is, unless the person on the other end of the phone clues you in. This will be confusing for a while. For the price, these phones are definitely worth the money. It is very difficult to find other manufacturers with the same number of features, especially online.

This review is for its sister model (V2650) which has the same handset as this model. The sister model has answering machine feature builtin but overall they are the same in terms of handset features and sound quality.Man, it is so hard today to find a cordless phone with good voice quality. I dumped several phones due to such reason. But this model does not disappoint me. I'd highly recomment it to anyone looking for cordless phone (and with answering maching combo). Pro: 1. Loud and clear. The sound quality from the handset rivals those landphones. No static. This is the default setting. If your hearing capability is not great, you can always turn that up! This is the most important thing a phone needs to do, however so many others fail. 2. Second handset. 3. Speaker phone. 4. Illuminating buttons on handset (useful in night) 5. Clear and relatively big font on the LCD screen of handsets. 6. Use AAA rechargable batteries. When the batteries die, it is relatively easy and cheap to find replacement. Many cordless phones use proprietary battery pack so it is more difficult and expensive to replace them. Cons: 1. It is bit odd that On/Off button on the handset is not the same (many handsets use the same On/Off button, which becomes norm). 2. There is no edit dial feature found in some other phones. It is especially useful when you reply a caller-id recorded number. At least my phone company send such number in the form of <area-code>-numbers (lacking the preceding 1). Thus directly hit Dial won't get you the right number. You have to remember the number and dial it manually. This is a major inconvenience in my opinion.

It looks nice, sounds great and does not interfere with my home computer wireless network. The best part about it is that you get two handsets for a very low price. One of the handsets gets plugged into the phone line, and the other one just gets plugged into an electrical outlet. Therefore, the second handset can be used in a room that does not have a phone jack. I had a more expensive Panasonic phone that recently broke and at first, I was hesitant about buying this phone because of the low price. However, this phone ended up being much better than my more expensive Panasonic. You will be very happy with this phone.

I was pretty happy with this phone, especially considering how little I paid for it in April '04. One thing I particularly like is that the LCD displays a message when one of your other phones is in use. The illuminated keypad and backlit LCD are great. Though I really didn't use it, the handset speakerphone can be useful. The phone did not conflict with my Wireless G network. And--believe it or not--the handsets use standard AAA NiMH batteries; not expensive proprietary battery packs. But after a little more than a year of use, the phone has stopped working. I have owned a lot of cordless phones (VTech, Uniden, Panasonic, Sony, etc.), and the only two that have worked well AND lasted are both Unidens. So I'll be replacing my defunct VTech with the comparably priced Uniden DTC 646-2.

I live in a area where I am almost completely surrounded by radio towers. That said my previous cordless phone would not work in any room except the one which housed the base and I live in a apartment. The VTech however works in my whole apartment and down the hall in the laundry room. The kids love the intercom feature, no more hollering from room to room. At first I thought I wouldn't like the colors, but I like them much better than the black phone we had before. I thought it was good that you can change the ring tone and set a different one for the intercom and phone--this way I'm not rushing to the phone if its just my hubby who I'm sure doesn't want anything :) Also, I love teh flashing light for the messages, because with our old phone you had to pcik up the phone to read the display so if I didn't use the phone, I didn't know we had a message. The only downside is there isn't a single button to program your voicemail in you have to program ii into the phonebook and then scroll through. Great purchase, I would absolutely recommend.

The Perfect Cordless Phone Setup,

I normally wouldn't buy a V-Tech, but after reading the features I went on a hunch that this was a well-designed phone system. Though I've owned it for only a few weeks I have nothing but good things to say. - You can always charge your phone fully and use it till the battery runs dry (thus perserving battery life) because the other phone is always available! - Speakerphone and headphone jack on both handsets!! Along with a button that allows me to clip this phone onto my belt and do the dishes while on a conference call! - The intercom system is lots of fun. - Inuitive GUI, and all around solid design. I just hope that it will last!

I agree with most of the previous reviewers so I'll try not to repeat what they have said.I am pleased that these phones use NiMH batteries (three in each phone) which are much superior to NiCad batteries. NiMH batteries hold more charge, don't have memory effect, and are easily replaceable. The recepting range of the phones is very far so it can be used outside. One major annoying of this phone is that you can hear yourself talking occassionally -- and turning the volume down doesn't help sometimes. Also, transferring a call to the other handset is a little complicated. Besides that these phones are great.

I decided to buy the v-tech phone after reading many positive reviews, but I was unimpressed with it and decided to return it. On the plus side, the hand-set speaker-phone is handy and has fairly good sound quality, and the dual hand-sets are a nice feature. However, I found the sound quality very poor - there was often a hissing noise as well as echoing. Also, the hand-sets would run out of batteries very quickly.

This is a very nice phone. The intercom system is great. I live with my mom who is ailing and the intercom is a great way to keep in touch with her when she goes to bed. And the intercom really works, very clear. You can make the intercom ringer sound different then the incoming call ringer. So it is not a guessing game if it is the intercom or a phone call. Someone stated they could not tell one phone from the other. Well these phones allow you to give each headset a name. WHich is always on the LCD screen. So that should be no problem. So all and all it is a good solid phone. NOW FOR THE BIG PROBLEM. This phone would of gotten a 5 if it wasn't for one thing. If you get a call and try to call it back from the CID YOU CANNOT DO IT if you live in a area in which the number 1 is in front of the area code. I had a old Hello Kitty(GE) phone that if you pushed the format button the 1 popped up and you could redial the number. WHY a high tech company like V tech will not allow you to even push a button or add 1 you so you can redial a CID only God Knows. Ditto for adding the CID number to your phonebook. You have to manually add the number to be able to enter it so it will dial out. So that convience doesn't exist. Most numbers have that 1 in front of them now. I have to use a area code to dial into the next county some cities have to dial the area code to call a person around the block. Someone also stated that they heard you can push the # button to add the one. No you cannot push the # button it will not work. Yes it adds a 1 but not to the area code. Why did V-tech allow that glitch to happen and put the phone on the market? I called V tech up and woman who answered the phone KNEW exactly what I was talking about before I could say it. She said the only V TecH phone that allows to redial with the 1 is the 9162 model ( older ugly 29.00 phone go to their website)). I had to edit this review because someone who read my review said that you have to push the # button a few times and it will work. I want to thank this person for knowing more then the V Tech Tech. I am changing my stars to 4 not 5 because V Tech had not a clue about the solution even after I bought the # button being used as a solution. Who in the world would think they would have to push a button 3 times before the 1 is in front of the area code. And secondly why wasn't this in the manuel?
