Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Whether you're actually a teenager, shopping for one, or just cultivating "teenness," VTech's stylish, 2.4 GHz gz2434--affectionately dubbed the "teen phone"--is just the cordless device for you. It has a trendy look and a fun color scheme, debuting in vibrant orange and offering changeable faceplates in five fashionable colors and patterns. The gz2434 also includes durable rubber detailing and fun styling on the handset.

Six distinctive teen-inspired pop-song ringer melodies alert you to incoming calls. Each of the phone's polyphonic ringer tones features eight instruments, the ensemble sound making the melodies sound more like the actual songs. In addition, the gz2434 comes with composer software with which you can program (and designate as ringer tones) up to seven additional favorite songs using MIDI files.

And, for those late night calls when privacy is a must--whether you're listening to music and can't hear the ringer or you've silenced the phone out of courtesy for others--the teen phone's antenna and keypad become flashing visual ringers. The VTech gz2434 also incorporates playful animated displays that signal waiting voicemail messages when the handset is charging and also whenever there's a caller match from the built-in 50-name phonebook directory.

As for the features one expects to find in a contemporary phone, the gz2434 offers call waiting/caller ID (requires service through your local phone company), a 50-name and -number phonebook directory, and a universal (2.5 mm) headset jack so you can enjoy private, mobile, hands-free conversations (headset not included). High, 2.4 GHz analog transmission offers greater range and less chance of interference than you'd get with a standard 900 MHz cordless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Phone Choice, June 2, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: VTech gz2434 2.4 GHz Analog Cordless Teen Phone with Changeable Faceplates (Office Product)
This is a great phone for the price range. After purchasing it and reading through the manual I was surprised it didn't cost much more. (Not that I'm complaining!)
The changeable faceplates are a neat idea, obviously taken from cell phones. If you'll look at the picture, you'll notice the phone and base are black and orange. They come with changeable plates for both base and phone in red, yellow, and blue, so you've got four colors to choose from. Or you can mix and match.
The best feature of this phone is the ring tones selection. There are six songs you can choose from: James Bond theme, Rocky theme, "All the Small Things" by Blink 182, "What A Girl Wants" by Christina Aguilera "We Will Rock You" by Queen, and "Lady Marmelade". You can also choose from 4 different ring tones, or from 5 pre-composed melodies in the phone. You can also choose to turn the ringer off, in which case orange light bands will travel through the phone to indicate an incoming call. (The light also works when the ringer is on.)
More than that, you can compose your own song on the phone by pushing the buttons, like Happy Birthday, and you can choose from 8 instruments to play it in.
You can also program the phone to play a certain song when a certain person calls. Plus, there are two cute animations to choose from that can play when these people call.
One other animation is a little charging bull that runs across the screen when the phone is set in the charger.
The screen and buttons have orange backlight, and the screen is very clear and easy to read. You can control the volume of the various ring tones, and the phone charges up rather quickly. It has great sound quality, with adjustable voice volume, and is quite sturdy.
Overall, I'd say this phone is of the highest quality you can find in its price range, and certainly the most fun.

2.0 out of 5 stars Looks "cool," but not worth it, July 23, 2004

I went against the grain--knowing I shouldn't have--and bought this phone over better brands like Panasonic and Sony. Unfortunately, the novelty of the ringtones and changeable faceplates quickly faded away and I was left with a below average phone. The reception is poor and very quiet, and just holding to my ear felt abrasive, most noticeably after longer conversations.

Eventually the phone completely went down the tube with the battery dying, but even if that hadn't happened, it still would get this same two-star rating. I've since replaced it with a mid-range Panasonic phone that is infinitely better than this one. Sure, maybe this phone didn't drive me to the point of homicidal rampage, but many better phones in its price range exist that you'd be better off purchasing.

1.0 out of 5 stars This phone is awful!, October 20, 2005

First, let me say that I have another v-tech phone - that works great! But this one couldn't be worse! I bought the phone for my daughter thinking it would look nice in her room. It's cute all right, but after about 6 months - during which time she used it maybe 3 or 4 times for no more than 5 minutes per call - it simply stopped working. I thought it was a bad battery and bought a new one. Guess what...the battery was not the problem, the charger in the base simply stopped charging! You can't use a cordless phone with no battery...and since a charge only lasts 5 days...that's the length of time this phone will work. I would never consider a phone like this again. Don't waste your money like I did. It may be cute, but it doesn't work.
