5.0 out of 5 stars Great Phone Choice
This is a great phone for the price range. After purchasing it and reading through the manual I was surprised it didn't cost much more. (Not that I'm complaining!)
The changeable faceplates are a neat idea, obviously taken from cell phones. If you'll look at the picture, you'll notice the phone and base are black and orange. They come with changeable plates for both...

2.0 out of 5 stars Looks "cool," but not worth it
I went against the grain--knowing I shouldn't have--and bought this phone over better brands like Panasonic and Sony. Unfortunately, the novelty of the ringtones and changeable faceplates quickly faded away and I was left with a below average phone. The reception is poor and very quiet, and just holding to my ear felt abrasive, most noticeably after longer conversations...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Phone Choice, June 2, 2003

This is a great phone for the price range. After purchasing it and reading through the manual I was surprised it didn't cost much more. (Not that I'm complaining!)
The changeable faceplates are a neat idea, obviously taken from cell phones. If you'll look at the picture, you'll notice the phone and base are black and orange. They come with changeable plates for both base and phone in red, yellow, and blue, so you've got four colors to choose from. Or you can mix and match.
The best feature of this phone is the ring tones selection. There are six songs you can choose from: James Bond theme, Rocky theme, "All the Small Things" by Blink 182, "What A Girl Wants" by Christina Aguilera "We Will Rock You" by Queen, and "Lady Marmelade". You can also choose from 4 different ring tones, or from 5 pre-composed melodies in the phone. You can also choose to turn the ringer off, in which case orange light bands will travel through the phone to indicate an incoming call. (The light also works when the ringer is on.)
More than that, you can compose your own song on the phone by pushing the buttons, like Happy Birthday, and you can choose from 8 instruments to play it in.
You can also program the phone to play a certain song when a certain person calls. Plus, there are two cute animations to choose from that can play when these people call.
One other animation is a little charging bull that runs across the screen when the phone is set in the charger.
The screen and buttons have orange backlight, and the screen is very clear and easy to read. You can control the volume of the various ring tones, and the phone charges up rather quickly. It has great sound quality, with adjustable voice volume, and is quite sturdy.
Overall, I'd say this phone is of the highest quality you can find in its price range, and certainly the most fun.

I went against the grain--knowing I shouldn't have--and bought this phone over better brands like Panasonic and Sony. Unfortunately, the novelty of the ringtones and changeable faceplates quickly faded away and I was left with a below average phone. The reception is poor and very quiet, and just holding to my ear felt abrasive, most noticeably after longer conversations.

Eventually the phone completely went down the tube with the battery dying, but even if that hadn't happened, it still would get this same two-star rating. I've since replaced it with a mid-range Panasonic phone that is infinitely better than this one. Sure, maybe this phone didn't drive me to the point of homicidal rampage, but many better phones in its price range exist that you'd be better off purchasing.

First, let me say that I have another v-tech phone - that works great! But this one couldn't be worse! I bought the phone for my daughter thinking it would look nice in her room. It's cute all right, but after about 6 months - during which time she used it maybe 3 or 4 times for no more than 5 minutes per call - it simply stopped working. I thought it was a bad battery and bought a new one. Guess what...the battery was not the problem, the charger in the base simply stopped charging! You can't use a cordless phone with no battery...and since a charge only lasts 5 days...that's the length of time this phone will work. I would never consider a phone like this again. Don't waste your money like I did. It may be cute, but it doesn't work.

This phone promised pure fun. It looks cool. The colors change. It lights up and plays music of many different kinds. But the "snap, crackle, pop" reception is more than I can bear so back it goes. Too bad, really . . .

4.0 out of 5 stars Not just for teens, March 12, 2005
My husband and I purchased this phone 1-1/2 years ago, and overall it has proven to be a great phone. There are several features that I particularly enjoy and one or two minor problems.

1. The colorful base and handset covers make this phone immensely easy to locate in our dark log cabin.

2. The 007 themesong ring is just cool, on the flip side I wish they had included a "normal" ringtone along with all of the cell phone-like ringtones.

3. The handset is very comfortable to hold. The shape is nice and the rubberized areas make it easier to grip.

4. It's very simple to change the volume to the desired level on this phone.

5. The flashing lights when it rings are also great for locating it.

6. We have had one minor problem with it. The light that is supposed to indicate that a message is waiting does not always work. We have found that it's best to pick up the phone and check for the message waiting tone our phone company uses.

7. Also, a small pet peeve. The phone stays on my bedside table, and the charging light on the base was a little too bright for my liking. So, my husband took care of it by using trusty duct tape to cover the charging indicator light.

I would recommend this phone to anyone who is bored with the standard cordless phone colors available or who wants a phone that is easier to see in their house. Also, I believe this is an ideal phone for someone who has had a stroke because it is easier to hold on to than plastic phone models. Overall the VTech 2.4GHz - Teen Phone - Cordless Telephone - GZ2434 has proven to be a quality product at a reasonable price.

1.0 out of 5 stars Everything is great except what matters., June 28, 2004
This review is from: VTech gz2434 2.4 GHz Analog Cordless Teen Phone with Changeable Faceplates (Office Product)
As stated in my title above, I have but one big problem with this phone. The reception is awful, and no channel changing is going to fix it. I feel this is true with almost all cordless phones today. I have an at least ten years old, or perhaps not, 900 mhz. Toshiba that still has the best reception I can find. Unfortunatly, in its old age, it does not seem to hold a charge as long, and I find my self replacing its battery far too often. But, I digress. I just want a phone with good reception, and this V Tech is not it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ups And Downs, June 28, 2004

When I first bought this phone, I thought it would be great. I was wrong. I plugged it in and charged it for a little over 12 hours and then tried it. It wouldn't work at all. I figured I just got a bad one and so I exchanged it. Same problem with the next one. I exchanged it again. Finally, a phone that worked! I loved customizing all of my ringtones and animations, changin the faceplates, etc. I didn't have any of the clicking or Caller I.D. problems that other people had. Then, I had to unplug it from the wall for a couple of weeks while my room was repainted. Once my room was done being painted, I plugged it back in, charged it for 12 hours and tried it. It didn't work, AGAIN! It made me so mad! I loved it because most other phones have boring colors and tones. I love music too so I enjoyed setting different songs for my tones and different songs for everyone in my phone book. Just as cool as a cell phone. And so now, I've resorted to a Virgin Pulse phone and I'm going to take this one to see if I can get it repaired. I hope that I can, because I absolutely loved this phone.

I bought this phone when it first came out. I was so excited. It's a lot of fun. the only thing about it that I dont like is that about every 10-15 seconds there a "crackle...pop!" noise. It doesnt bug me too much but it could bug other people. Its a really cool phone. all my friends were impressed.

3.0 out of 5 stars It could have been better, April 9, 2005
This review is from: VTech gz2434 2.4 GHz Analog Cordless Teen Phone with Changeable Faceplates (Office Product)
I had this phone for over a year. At times I loved it and at times I went searching for other phones. I replaced it once but the replacement died and decided to give this one another chance. Part of the problem was I didn't read the instructions or just forgot some. I think some of the people reviewing this phone are having the same problem. If you are getting a bad connection you should try changing the channel. Everytime you add a wireless device or electronic device you run the chance of causing problems with other wireless devices. Changing the channel fixed a problem I had and I bet it would have fixed some of the other reviewers problems also.
Pros
ringtones
silent flash
good range I can take it outside
good lcd

cons
no EASY way to add ringtones
no speakerphone option
