5.0 out of 5 stars Nice!
Pretty much everything about this phone has been good. Good range, exceptional sound clarity, large screen view, battery longivity, no interference with our computer wireless network, it's design and size, and the easy intercom usage make it an good wireless phone. The speakerphone works very well too. Even assigning the different built-in ringtones to friends and...

3.0 out of 5 stars On their way out
I have the previous model that is the same but without the wallpaper. I have had for 2 years. I have noticed that they are losing quality of reception in certain areas of my home and that some buttons on the keypads I am not able to push. I too am having problems with the charger bases. I have two handsets and both will not fully charge and nor sit correctly in the...

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice!, January 14, 2006
This review is from: VTech i5801 5.8GHz Accessory Handset for vt5831 and i5881 Expandable Phones (Office Product)
Pretty much everything about this phone has been good. Good range, exceptional sound clarity, large screen view, battery longivity, no interference with our computer wireless network, it's design and size, and the easy intercom usage make it an good wireless phone. The speakerphone works very well too. Even assigning the different built-in ringtones to friends and relatives phone numbers (using Caller ID) isn't too difficult and makes it even more functional. It's even got a battery back-up feature in the base station which makes it reliable in power failures - apparently, a general area power failure can render a multi-phone system useless if they don't have battery back-up. We've had 4 of these handsets with the 5831 base station for some 2 years now. Because of this good experience, I would consider any of the 5800 series VTech phone systems if I had to buy another multiple handset phone system.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Cool Phone, February 1, 2004
This review is from: VTech i5801 5.8GHz Accessory Handset for vt5831 and i5881 Expandable Phones (Office Product)
I like this phone. The reception is just as good as the regular LCD version. The pictures on the phone are not as clear they appear on the box, but they are still good. The downloadable ringtones only lasts for about 10 seconds or so and then that ten seconds of clip is repeated until phone is answered or the caller hangs up. It is easy to use and the instruction manual is helpful. All in all, I like it and I plan on keeping it.

I have two handsets and both will not fully charge and nor sit correctly in the base. Also in going to the vtech website I noticed that htese are on their way out and they are no longer making the additional handsets. I love the style though and wish I could find a similair style with the blue backlighting. I say find a more recent model.

Amazon provided a great, low-cost source for additional handsets to the VTech i5801 answer machine/base station. Handsets arrived promptly and after the pre-requisite charging period, were ready to use. The only downside is that VTech does not have a program for these phones for transferring phone book entries to each handset (either directly or through a computer). Otherwise, a great value.

1.0 out of 5 stars 3 strikes and you are out, August 3, 2004
This review is from: VTech i5801 5.8GHz Accessory Handset for vt5831 and i5881 Expandable Phones (Office Product)
Our third handset is on it's way out. 3 dead in one year. The keypads go bad (buttons become hard to push, you have to use a pen) and the charging cradle also goes bad; you have to jiggle it just right to get it to charge. All in all the worst phones I have ever purchased.

5.0 out of 5 stars My VTech phone has been very dependable quality is by far superior. I've had my original base station for nearly 8, January 23, 2011

This product is by far superior to any other cordless. I've had the base for nearly 8 yrs or so. One of the extensions needed to be replaced. I looked to Amazon I was fortunate enough to find one that was just the model I needed. Price was great. It arrived in great condition. I just had to charge the battery. Same excellent tone. Very clear and this can be used further outside than my neighbors.

1.0 out of 5 stars Didn't Work, May 31, 2009
This review is from: VTech i5801 5.8GHz Accessory Handset for vt5831 and i5881 Expandable Phones (Office Product)
Did not work with my VTech i5881 system. Handset would not recognize the base unit. I don't know if it was simply defective or the wrong handset for the unit.

Had purchased VT5831 speakerphone base/cordless handset unit previously & wanted to get rid of my other 2.4GHz handsets. Very good price, shipped very quickly, and was easy to set up. No more interference with my wireless network!

This is a 5.8 GHs expandable phone in my home. It works well if you are in the same room. Go outside to the pool area and your signal will weaken and finally just drop. When I tried to get a replacement I found the phone has already been replaced by a newer model. Go for the newer models and leave the discontinued stuff on the shelves--- regardless of price.
