To voice it or not to voice it, March 12, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: VXI-Voice It VTR3200 Mobil Digital Voice Recorder (Office Product)
I decided to purchase a portable voice recorder to keep track
of my thoughts and ideas while travelling. The VXI Voice-it
provided a to me unexpected combination: reasonable recording
time (of course with additional memory) plus the possibility
of downloading the data to my computer for filing. This also
opened the possibility of using voice-to-text software
which could be useful for preparing papers and reviews. Bad idea!
The audio quality is not very good, downloading to the computer
is slow and uses a lot of disk space. But the worse feature is
that, my device at least, is very sensitive to battery age. As
soon as the batteries have been used just a little, I begin having problems to reproduce the recordings. Lowering the volume
to the very minimum helps sometimes, but not always. I know that
the batteries are good because the battery indicator tells me
so, and because I have replaced them a couple of times to check
the problem. So typically I can only listen to the first 10 seconds or so of each file, and then the unit freezes with
a low battery message. I contacted the manufacturer by EMAIL,
but obtained no reply.
The quality of the keys is poor and the menus are not easy to
use. I would not recommend this device to anyone.
