Truly The Voice Of The Young People,
This review is from: VYP: Voice of the Young People (Audio CD)
I have to say Lil'Mama did a good job with this CD, she's just so real and she don't forget where she comes from. That's what I Love about her so much, people might think Oh she's ghetto but she has a good head on her shoulder.
Stand out tracks: The single "Shawty Get Loose" feat. Chris Breezy and hook king T-Pain, "L.I.F.E", "College" feat. Virayah, "Broken Pieces", "Pick it up"......... Go copy it, trust not a waste of money!

If you saw Lil Mama in the cipher on 2007's BET Hip Hop Awards then you know, without a doubt that she can spit with the best. She upholds the East Coast traditions of storytelling, of opening up your innermost self naked to the public and of keeping it street.
She lapses into cliches too often -- does she really need to remind us she's the "Voice Of The Young People" on EVERY track? - but there's no doubt she'll become better with time. Like just about every pop and hip hop CD, VYP's main problem is that there's too much filler clogging up the middle of the disc. Three or four songs could have been jettisoned and you'd have a tighter CD. Parents, you can safely buy this for your kids if they're fairly mature. There's no profanity, but some of the material about her upbringing might be too heavy for the younger set. However, I can honsetly say that grown-up hiphoppers need have no fear of "Lip Gloss". It is NOT representative of the cd as a whole.

Lil Mama is truly the Voice of the Young People!,
This review is from: VYP: Voice of the Young People (Audio CD)
VYP is an excellent cd and definitely worth buying. What I love about the cd is that it gets deep and theres also fun songs too. L.I.F.E. is the best song on the album. Lil Mama always keeps it real. She is so talented and is a very positive role model. She puts her heart and soul into her music and it shows when you listen to this album. She doesnt even use explicit lyrics and its still hot! My favorites on the album are L.I.F.E., shawty get loose, broken pieces, college, swim, make it hot, what it is, lip gloss, and one hit wonder. The whole cd is fiyah so cop it immediately!

Definitely not the voice of the young people,

This little bubble gum rapper tries too hard to rap "hardcore" and she only just turned 18. I do not get excited when I see Lil Mama, do not buy. Just sample the CD on amazons digital version, and you will agree its a bad album.

Lil Mama is a no-talent,
By
This review is from: VYP: Voice of the Young People (Audio CD)
I know a NO-TALENT B*tch when I see and hear one... she is only a rap "artist" because HER DADDY OWNS THE RECORD LABEL FAMILIAR FACES --she joined her father's label, she traveled to Atlanta in 2006 to work exclusively with producer James "Groove" Chambers, who helped construct the "Lip Gloss" single. Her Daddy set it all up for her. SHE HAS NO TALENT!!!!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I ordered this CD because of "Shawty get loose". This song is great to run and exercise to. I was to purchase the single for 99 cents. For $2 I could order the whole CD. It was worth the price. 3 of the many songs are fun and OK, the rest is a hot mess of foolishness. For 99 cents more who cares!

I love this album! I have to say that there is not one song on this album that I did not like or have to repeatedly skip over. She's not just the Lipgloss girl, she's the Voice of The Young People. The album is very lyrical and she really expresses herself through this album. It's clean, no cursing at all, making this a good CD for all ages. All in all I highly recommend this album.

Sound Off - Lil Mama: VYP - Voice of the Young People,

Teenage rap artists often have a hard time balancing between the bulk of their fan base -- kids whose parents expect lyrics to fall in the PG range -- and the genre's incessant demand for hard-edged rhythms and explicit subject matter. Though Lil Mama doesn't embrace the second portion of the latter, she manages to bridge beats with her pop radio-friendly rap on her debut, VYP: Voice of the Young People, with an appeal to all ages within the hip-hop generational gap.
On no track is this more true than on "Lip Gloss," the hand clap-driven ode to makeup in which Lil Mama flows briefly with "no music" to demonstrate a rhyming ability rarely found in rappers her age. Though not everyone will relate to the topic, the melody alone is enough to ignite a party. And no playlist would be complete without "Shawty Get Loose," the bouncy number featuring Chris Brown and T-Pain that screams to listeners to get up and dance (and it's hard to resist the song's summons). The nursery rhyme melody of "G-Slide (Tour Bus)" borrows from "The Wheels on the Bus," which explains why it's so catchy, and the accompanying dance is enough to keep the song on repeat. Keeping in tune with the kids' stuff, "Swim" is an interesting ditty that seems to be a new telling of the story of The Little Mermaid, only this time around, the guy Lil Mama's eyeing says that he'll join her under the sea. "College" is definitely one of the more mature songs included on the album. Here, Lil Mama discusses some of the more complicated matters many face when first attending a university, such as no parental support and being recognized as an outsider among the school's student body. Additionally, the acronymic "L.I.F.E." is the mandatory "life is rough, but I'm going to persevere" inspirational track, complete references to 2Pac, crack and a mom who wasn't there. Lil Mama can easily claim the title of the Voice of the Young People -- despite her gruff voice -- because of her confidence, and her ability to talk about childish topics and more grown-up material. Doing so allows her to relate to her peers, as well as those younger and older who may have had similar experiences. She also is able to do so over hip-hop beats that rival that of her contemporary competitors, securing her position for the meantime as the VYP. The 'Voice' of Truth,
By Trevor (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: VYP: Voice of the Young People (Audio CD)
Described by Lil Mama herself as the 'revolution of hip-pop', this album has a lot to live up to. While it isn't quite THAT monumental, the album is chock full of upbeat, fun party songs such as the novelty classic "Lip Gloss", the top ten smash "Shawty Get Loose", and the old-school flavored "Make It Hot". However, to think that the album has nothing but party songs is a mistake. Several of the tracks on the record show a side of Lil Mama that she unapologetically puts out in the open, such as on "L.I.F.E." and "Broken Pieces". The biggest standout track on the album is "Swim", which appears on the latter half of the album. It has excellent production and defines the 'hip-pop' sound Lil Mama is going for. Overall, the album is very good and worth the listen. Lil Mama truly is the voice of the young people, and she not once apologizes for being that.
