PreS-Gr 2-Roberta, a dog, is spending her vacation at her grandparents' house, but it is hot, boring, and lonely. She has been warned not to go anywhere alone, but decides to go for a walk on the beach anyway. She meets big, fearful Grorex, and runs away from him. She relaxes, goes for a swim, and finds a shady spot to take a nap. From her resting place, she sees Grorex go into the water, but then loses sight of him. Roberta rushes in and saves him, thus signaling the beginning of a great friendship. Children will enjoy this amusing short story; its colorful illustrations reinforce the humor and add to the lighthearted fun.-Alexandra Gomez, New York Public Library
