Book Description

*For Mature Audiences

Sapphira Jones has never known love. Haunted by a past she has tried to forget, she remains distant from everyone except her best friend. Alexander Thomas, bestselling novelist, still mourns the loss of his beloved wife after nearly five years. He is incapable of love.

A series of chance encounters brings these two desolate hearts together. Desperate to remain in the life of the only man she’s ever wanted, Sapphira concocts a plan she hopes will fulfill his needs - and hers. Can she rescue him from his bleak despair? Or will the ghost of his wife prove too much for her to overcome?

Vacant Hearts is the first installment of the Vacant Hearts Trilogy, where two barren hearts collide in a tale of scorching sex and desire, love and romance.

**REVIEW**
Vacant Heart's by: D.J. Larkin
Hot rich Alexander Thomas lost his wife 5 years ago in a tragic accident. Sweet shy Sapphira Jones who lives with best friend Angie. On a vacation to Mexico before moving to Pittsburg finding her dream job her life changes when she bumps into Alexander. She spends her vacation admiring him from afar until brave Angie drags her to talk to him discovering they will be returning to the same place after their vacation. Her dream job at an art museum leads to her contacting him and eventually coming to an agreement. Alexander who is unable to offer Sapphira anything more than a goodtime. She eagerly accepts due to her lack of experience. The chemistry is there, the se* is amazing what else is there? She wants more. Question is can he give her more? This book left me needing answers and wanting much more. D.J. Larkin is a great writer and knows how to keep you wanting more. For me this is a great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVED IT! March 31, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I'd like to start this review out a little different than I normally do.

This book is written by a man. A man whose wife is a fan, a great fan, of our blog, One More Chapter. She never mentioned this to us, even though we had interacted many times. I discovered that her husband was a published author during a release party for a different author.

I am so very thrilled that I did. I'm so surprised to be honest. I didn't know what to expect when I started it. I read and love Richard Paul Evans books - he's usually the first one that I think of when I think of male romance authors. Not anymore, from now on D.J. Larkin will also be a name I think of.

This book is - poetic. There is no other word to describe it. D.J.'s way of writing is that of a poet. His words are soft, sweet, and utterly romantic. While there is sex in this book, scenes that are graphic at times, the romance of his words makes it so deliciously unique from any other book out there.

Vacant Hearts is about both second chances and firsts - if that's possible.

Second chances for a broken man whose wife died and left him not only broken-hearted but incomplete 5 years ago.

It's a book of firsts for a woman who is shy, naive, and needs help finding herself.

Their romance starts off as a friends with benefits, no commitments, lesson. As you can imagine, it doesn't stay that way.

Will the broken man give his heart fully to the woman whose fallen for him?

Is he too far gone to be saved? Does his memories of his wife still block him from loving another?

I can't recommend this one enough - honestly.

While some may be mad about the ending, I think it's perfect. The man needs to heal. He needs to face his fear of letting his wife go - and the events that lead up to the ALMOST cliffhanger ending will do just that. The ending to me, is perfect. Exactly as it should be.

I cannot wait for book 2!

5.0 out of 5 stars ***reviewed for Eye Candy Bookstore*** May 17, 2014

Vacant Hearts ~ Book One of the Vacant Hearts Series
By DJ Larkin
I am glad that I was the one that got to review Vacant Hearts for the Eye Candy Bookstore crew. Vacant Hearts is the story of two people with emotional issues that hold them back from finding love. Sapphira Jones is a young woman who is very inexperienced in life due to a not so great upbringing by very strict parents. Alexander Thomas is a wealthy novelist and widower who is mourning the loss of his wife and who tries to stay out of the public eye and to himself.
Sapphira is portrayed as a very naive character with emotional and self esteem issues from the beginning, if it were not for her best friend Angie; she would almost be a hermit. Alexander is very charming, but standoffish at first, almost to the point of being arrogant. Chance meetings and stolen glances between the two were making me itch for more and when they finally get together, their chemistry sizzled. One of my favorite parts of reading and reviewing romance novels is seeing the character growth throughout the story and feeling all the different emotions the characters feel. DJ Larkin did a great job of making me feel, without overwhelming me with the characters past issues.
Even though this book started out slow for me, it picked up pace and I was absorbed in the story. I can’t wait to see what DJ Larkin has in store for Sapphira and Alexander in the next installment of the Vacant Hearts Series. I have a feeling this is going to be a great series.

4.0 out of 5 stars His Past, Her Present and Their Future June 29, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Alexander stopped living 5 years ago when his wife Emily died. Since then he has been going through the motions. He has become reclusive and has stopped writing. He decides to return to the resort he and his wife went to on their honeymoon. He has no idea how much his life is about to change and probably is not ready for it.

Sapphira just lost her job and feels loose ends when her roommate and best friend informs her that they are moving back home to Pittsburgh, after a vacation in Mexico. A chance meeting with a handsome stranger will change her life for ever, but will it be for better or worse?

This is D J Larkin's debut novel. I thoroughly enjoyed the story. The characters were well written and believable. I liked that the romance between Alexander and Sapphira developed slowly. There is an instant attraction but neither of them is ready to just jump in feet first. The getting to know each other is fun to watch and allows each of them to grow into the relationship. This book does end with a cliff hanger, however book two is already published.

More About the Author

DJ Larkin was born in New England in 1971 and wrote his first short story in first grade. It was about bunnies and dinosaurs. It didn't end well for the bunnies. All throughout school, he enjoyed writing short stories and essays for classes. It was the beginning of a love affair with writing that has lasted to this day.

But it wasn't until 2014 that he took the plunge and released his first novel out into the wild titled Vacant Hearts - a love letter to his wife. The trilogy was wrapped up in the same year with Confessing Hearts and Healing Hearts following.

When he's not writing, DJ Larkin enjoys martial arts, photography, and watching his kids in their various activities such as hockey and gymnastics.
