That's the only word to describe this book - for both leaders and team members. VWAP is always one step ahead, because they have 'been there' and 'done that'. From first-timers to experienced missions teams, this book is a MUST. It is THE way to maximize your group's mission trip experience.

A Must Have,
By Scott Tanksley (Atlanta, GA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Vacations With a Purpose: A Planning Handbook for Your Short-Term Missions Team (Paperback)
Very "real world", comprehensive guide to experiencing and leading a short-term mission team. My experience with it came from two trips to Bolivia. The first as a team member, and the second as a team leader. Both times I found it to be an invaluable resource for preparing myself and others as we ventured into a totally foreign culture.

VWAP ... training made easy!!!,
By Nancy Charles (Lake Havasu City, AZ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Vacations With a Purpose: A Planning Handbook for Your Short-Term Missions Team (Paperback)
Easy, we thought. Our church wanted to do a short-term mission trip. We had eager participants, all ready and willing to "go". We just didn't know what to do... or even where to go ... we'd never done this before!! Yikes!! To the rescue ... Vacations with a Purpose!!! The VWAP leaders manual provided insight from people who had lead teams before, practical training ideas and a checklist to get us started. I recommend this book for those just getting started with short-term missions, as well as to those who want to learn how to do better teams.

If you have ever led a mission trip, been on a mission trip, or are interested in the benefits of short-term missions, reading VWAP is vital! Besides the basics of how to run a successful week, VWAP gives you incredible insight into understanding other cultures and how to facilitate a life-changing experience for your group. Being stripped away from our own culture and comforts can be overwhelming and VWAP has given me some guidance and structure in how to ask key questions, what emotions, fears, and questions to look for, and how to prepare people for the return to their homes with the newfound perspective. Short-term missions have had an incredible impact on my organization and God has definitely used the VWAP as a vessel of knowledge in the incredible ministry of short-term missions.

Good book for leaders planning a Short-term mission,
This review is from: Vacations With a Purpose: A Planning Handbook for Your Short-Term Missions Team (Paperback)
If you're a leader planning a Short-term mission then this is a good book to get. It covers many topics and in the back has lots of photocopyable forms to hand out and keep records of accounts, passport numbers etc.
Splits into 6 sections over 18 chapters, plus another one and covers most things very well. The book was first published in 1991, but the enduring principles of STM, team work, working with the host community, culture, language etc. are all still up-to-date. Another mission book Mission Preparation Training - How to prepare for your short-term mission trip though the best STM book i have read is How to Plan, Prepare and Successfully Complete Your Short-Term Mission - For Volunteers, Churches, Independent STM Teams and Mission Organisations. The ... and those Planning a Christian Gap Year T
