Book Description

February 28, 2011

The book the pharmaceutical industry doesn't want you to read!

National polls show that Americans are increasingly concerned about vaccine safety and the right to make individual, informed choices together with their healthcare practitioners. Vaccine Epidemic focuses on the searing debate surrounding individual and parental vaccination choice in the United States. Featuring more than twenty experts from the fields of ethics, law, science, medicine, business, and history, Vaccine Epidemic urgently calls for reform. It is the essential handbook for the vaccination choice movement and required reading for all people contemplating vaccination for themselves and their children. Louise Kuo Habakus and Mary Holland edit and introduce a diverse array of interrelated topics concerning the explosive vaccine controversy, including:

     • The human right to vaccination choice
     • The ethics and constitutionality of vaccination mandates
     • Personal narratives of parents, children, and soldiers who have suffered vaccine injury
     • Vaccine safety science and evidence-based medicine
     • Corrupting conflicts of interest in the national vaccine program
     • What should parents do? A review of eight advice books on vaccines that span the gamut.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Organized somewhat radically around a grim Ursula K. Le Guin short story about a child tortured for the good of a community, this book's three sections provide anecdotal accounts of physical disabilities following vaccination, discrimination faced by physicians who challenge the status quo, and the legal and ethical issues raised by vaccination. Holland, Habakus, and their contributors address the onset of autism in early childhood; Gulf War syndrome, now thought to be connected to the anthrax vaccinations; an adult's muscle deterioration thought to have been caused by a flu vaccination; a teenager permanently invalided after receiving a HPV vaccination; the role of the medical industry in shaping media coverage; constitutional issues about the government's right to mandate health care; and many other related issues. There are 23 contributions in all, and supporting documents and an appendix prepared by the Center for Personal Rights, a non-partisan advocacy group focused on vaccination choice with which Holland and Habakus are associated (though a disclaimer absolves the Center from the views expressed within). Though the editors come to the issue with an obvious agenda, their effort should still prove useful to anyone suspicious of present policies.

5.0 out of 5 stars vaccination choice and informed consent February 2, 2011
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is a must-read for those mandating vaccines, those supporting vaccination choice, parents of babies, parents of children in day care and school, college students, healthcare workers, pregnant women, soldiers, legislators...let's just say a must-read for everyone.

Every angle of informed consent and vaccination choice is explored, from vaccine safety, to media blackouts, to ethics, to human rights, and so much more. The ideas in this book really made me think hard about what is ethical. The pro-vaccination crowd claim they are ethical when they say everyone should have to receive mandated vaccines. But can it really be ethical if one family ends up with a disabled (or worse, dead) child due to vaccine damage? Does an ethical society mandate a medical intervention that it knows, with absolute certainty, will result in massive injury and death for some who receive it?

The variety of the chapters, written by different authors, is a perfect blend to get the full picture of the vaccination choice argument. Footnotes are provided at the end of the book, as well as write-ups on the contributors, and a section with "Tools for Vaccination Choice". The contributors/authors include scientists, doctors, nurses, lawyers, parents, soldiers, and more.

The photo inserts are eye-opening, shocking. The images will long be in my mind.

I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank you for an honest book on vaccines. February 10, 2011
Format:Hardcover
As the parents of a child that sustained vaccine damage, we would like to thank you for writing this book. We wish it would have been available to us seventeen years ago when in one day we, as parents thinking they were doing the best for their child, allowed our son to be given four vaccinations in one sitting. One of those was the MMR, so in reality he actually was exposed to seven.

The next three days our son was projectile vomiting, lethargic, lost eye contact, would scream if touched, and feverish. Upon calling his pediatrician, we were advised to use Tylenol and keep him hydrated. Repeated calls...same advice and he said it was a natural reaction. A trip to the ER. Nothing more, sent home.

Our son, who was surpassing his developmental milestone up to that point, was lost to us. No more talking, no laughing, no play, no eye contact, and he became self-abusive and aggressive to us. He was subsequently diagnosed with PDD-NOS and then ASD. We've spent the last seventeen years trying to repair that damage, remediate the injury, and advising others to become informed on vaccines and seek a safe schedule to use them.

Today our son is doing much better, however hopefully this book will be looked upon for what it is. The authors look at this from a view and perspective where they have no personal investment in this, they are not making money off of the drug industry, nor do they want to show there is a clear cut answer. They do however want to show there should be more done and people need to do a 360 when writing off something that is obvious. Everyone also should look at this is the perspective for what it actually is. A Vaccine Epidemic.

With much appreciation,
Andrew and Carolyn Gammicchia

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for Every American February 5, 2011
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
If you have questions about the US vaccination program, you will have them answered in VACCINE EPIDEMIC. This intensively referenced compliation is an comprehensive account of the Vaccine Issue that is facing each one of us right now. Whether you are a young parent or a older adult who is watching a commercial urging you to "Get YOur Flu Shot" this book will give you the answers. It is not just an essay or some one person's or one doctor's opinion. It is written by many people -- scientists, doctors, mothers, and lawyers with their different and unique perspectives with respect to this potentially life-threatening medical intervention. There are no alterior motives here it seems. No one is making money based on their opinion. The authors don't seems to have anything to gain from conveying these researched facts. But it convinced me that there must be parental choice in the US vaccine program. Parents must have the right to say "Stop! My kid has had enough." Or "My child has reacted badly and for our family the risks outweigh the benefits." In most states in this free country we do not yet have that right. A public or even private school education is held over a parent's head. Vaccinate or you do not receive the right of a free and public education. After reading this book, I realized that the mandated vaccine program (with its questionable science and conflicts of interest) in the United States of America is on a slippery slope when it comes to our human rights. Everything we ever learned growing up about fear-mongering and propaganda is happening before our eyes and ears in the 21st century. It's unbelievable that we have let it get so out of hand and will make you sick to your stomache. This book is not just for parents with doubts who have the immediate task of being required to send to school their child's immunization record. It is for every American that is concerned about holding on our God-given freedoms that have been promised to us through the US Constitution.
