Book Description

March 7, 2011 0231153074 978-0231153072 1

Paul A. Offit and Charlotte A. Moser answer questions about the science and safety of modern vaccines. In straightforward prose, they explain how vaccines work, how they are made, and how they are tested. Most important, they separate the real risks of vaccines from feared but unfounded risks.

Offit and Moser address parental fears that children may receive too many vaccines too early, that the HPV vaccine may cause chronic fatigue or other dangerous side effects, that additives and preservatives in vaccines cause autism, and that vaccines might do more harm than good. There couldn't be a better moment or more pressing need for this book, which offers honesty—instead of hype—in the quest to protect children's health.

The perfect book for parents seeking accurate and detailed vaccine information.

(Ari Brown, M.D., pediatrician, author of Baby 411: Clear Answers and Smart Advice for Your Baby's First Year)

This new book is a valuable resource for all parents concerned about the health of their child. Vaccines and Your Child makes it easier than ever for parents to wade through the abundance of information about vaccines, setting the story straight about vaccine safety.

(Rosalynn Carter, former First Lady, cofounder of Every Child By Two)

Paul Offit, M.D., and Charlotte Moser of the Vaccine Education center come together to provide a great deal of useful information. Vaccines and Your Child is a scholarly and much needed read for any concerned parent.

5.0 out of 5 stars solid science June 4, 2013
Format:Paperback
Dr. Offit has succeeded in writing a very readable and informative book about vaccines. He is a highly-educated doctor, but has managed to discuss the science behind the development of vaccines, and still make it understandable. If you are looking for a knowledgeable, objective, and reasoned discussion of vaccines and their effects, this is it.

5.0 out of 5 stars No BS just Evidence Based Science June 18, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I love how this book breaks it down easily for the average layperson to understand. This book is "one sided" since one side resides in evidence based fact and the other side has been repeatedly disproved by study after study yet they continue to charm naive first time mothers. If you're interested in more fact based information on vaccines and your children here are some places to start:

Offit presents the actual facts on vaccine safety, separated from the fear mongering nonsense perpetrated by people like Wakefield and Jenny McCarthy.

5.0 out of 5 stars For anyone looking for FACTUAL infromation on vaccines November 21, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is a wonderful resource for parents who want to know more about vaccines and the science supporting them. This book discusses both the risks and benefits of vaccination in a factual manner and sites the research along with links for further information. There is even a supplementary reading section. I have read several books about vaccines, and this is the best one so far . It addresses common areas of concerns for parents and nothing is sugar coated, it contains factual information and shares a few personal stories as well. Great resource!

5.0 out of 5 stars This one, read this one! April 2, 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I bought this and read it from cover to cover and this is definitely the book I am going to recommend to my patients' parents to read. It is the perfect antidote for the Sear's pseudoscience Vaccine book. Vaccines And You Child is scientifically sound, easy to read and trustworthy. An added benefit to getting the kindle edition is that web links take you to sites where you can hear the horrific whooping cough, get information from the CDC and many other pertinent links.
Of note, since published, there is an updated recommendation about the meningococcal meningitis vaccine(Menactra). The book says it is a single dose series, but it recently has been recommended that children get two doses, one at age 11 and a booster at age 16 (or 5 years after the first.). As always, check with your pediatrician for the latest and best information for your child.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Offit Great! March 27, 2011
Format:Paperback
I recently read "Deadly Choices" also by Dr Offit, and now "Vaccines and Your Child". This one is better for the person who wants a reference guide full of facts and tips. (Deadly Choices is written as a story, which is very enjoyable as well as educational.) If you have time, read both. They are both GREAT! Vaccines and Your Child is divided into easy to find sections, with boxes highlighting important topics. It is full of up to date information and answers many questions about vaccines, including safety.

It is a "Just the facts" type of book. Everything is documented. Enough of the vaccine lies! So many parents are told things that are psuedoscience and this addresses it so they can protect their children.
