Product Description

Size: Set of 1

The Wine Saver is a vacuum pump which extracts the air from an opened bottle and reseals it with a reusable rubber stopper. It slows down the oxidation process and keeps the wine fresh for 7 to 10 days. Ergonomically designed for comfort and non-slip use, the vacuum removes air and an audible click sounds when you have reached the optimal vacuum level. Includes one stopper to re-seal the wine to enjoy at a later date. For over 25 years, Vacu Vin has manufactured and distributed patented, innovative kitchen, barware and houseware products. With a focus of bringing quality, functional and fun products to consumers at reasonable prices, Vacu Vin products have been awarded over 20 International Design and Trade Awards and are sold in over 80 countries. Vacu Vin believes innovative ideas set tomorrow's standards and it is with this philosophy that Vacu Vin will continue to bring unique, quality products to your home for years to come.

Customer Reviews

It's simple, easy to use, reasonably priced and IT WORKS!

Pros: Sucks the air out of the bottle, keeps wine tasting great the next day, only slightly worse 2 days hence, and acceptable for about a week.

I have been using these products for over 10 years now, and they work great!

Looking at the reviews of this an other Vacuvin products, you see reports that are deeply contradictory. It's interesting that there is such a divergence of experience with such a simple product. The ideas behind Vacuvin are pretty simple.
First, air is the enemy of an open bottle of wine. Bacteria in the air want to turn alcohol into vinegar. The air itself oxidizes and dulls the taste of all but the most robust wines.
Second, you can remove some of the air with a simple pump and thereby slow down the rate at which wine deteriorates.

Why then, do we have both no-star and five-star reactions to this product?
Maybe the biggest source of disagreement is expectations. Vacuvin slows the deterioration of wine in the bottle, but it doesn't stop it.

Another possible reason for all the disagreement might be a question of temperature. The biochemical reactions that kill your wine are temperature sensitive. They proceed faster when the wine is warm and slow down when it's cool. Putting a pumped-out bottle in the refrigerator or wine cooler will slow down the spoilage processes and make Vacuvin more effective.
A third issue is the way the wine is handled before the Vacuvin plug goes in. If wine has a lot of air dissolved in it by being poured from decanter to bottle, there's no system that will keep it fresh.

I've been using this product for a quarter century or more. It's always worked well for me, and i can keep a bottle of red wine (at room temperature) for a week, sometimes two, with it.

Recently i had an opportunity to compare what the wine would taste like without using this product because, unbeknownst to me, my pump stopped working. The next day, i noticed a strikingly unpleasant shift in the taste of my bottle of wine. I blamed it on a bad stopper, so rotated it out. Another bottle of wine, same thing. After figuring out it was the pump, not the stoppers, which had failed, i bought a new pump. My next-day bottle of wine started tasting nearly as good as a freshly uncorked bottle. It was a striking difference. So i can reaffirm that this product does indeed work very well.

Some people seem to have less luck with it than i do. Every wine is of course different. But i suspect the biggest difference may be in how people use it. Firstly, i never rebottle decanted wine. Secondly, i pour the wine immediately upon decorking, and recork and vacuum the air out *immediately*. Thirdly, i pump enough to ensure that all the air is out, not just some. If the bottle is nearly empty, or i'm working with a 1.5L bottle, i have to do a lot more pumping (as there's more air in the bottle which needs to be removed).

I suspect those who report poor performance are either rebottling decanted wine, let their bottles sit open for a while, or aren't pumping out all the air they should.

It should be noted that this product won't work with sparkling wines like champagne. Such wines off-gas carbon dioxide, which will break the vacuum and vent out through the stopper's valve (which is designed to prevent airflow in the opposite direction).

This product works similar to one that I had purchased for myself previously except there is not little ball in it to tell when you have reached the vacuum point. My old one had a clicking noise to tell me the air was all out and no further pumping would do anything further.

My son had these stoppers. One popped out of the bottle while he was at work leaving the wine open to the air. He asked for some new stoppers for Christmas and I bought these thinking they were like the Vacuvin stoppers I have which work beautifully. I wish I had read some of these reviews before I purchased. I would have recognized that mine are the old style with the ribs on the side and the slits on top. The new ones are different -- they have smooth sides. The new ones just do not work as well as the old ones and they pop out sometimes. My son's bottle of wine was ruined. I was so disappointed when I gave him the new pump and stoppers for Christmas and he told me they were just like the ones that he already had that had failed. Bad product update. Bring back the old ones. I will give my son one of my precious old stoppers and he will probably just discard the new ones I just bought him.

Solve your wine problem! No I don't mean you drink to much. It's nice to have a glass of wine but you don't always want to finish the entire bottle. This handy little device allows you to have a glass, vacuum seal the bottle, and stretch out the length of time you have before you need to finish the bottle off. 5 stars... inexpensive, simple to use, and one of those items you'll go "how did I live without this before now?"

Tried a couple other brands and types of suction caps and none of them as good as this one. Second set I buy. Highly recommended.

I'm not a drinker, this was a gift for my wife. She can't drink very much wine at once. It keeps the wine good for about 2 weeks so she has a chance to drink it all.
