5.0 out of 5 stars Flavors the meat fast
This new larger and stronger model works even better than the discontinued one. The larger size will hold roasts and the larger pump pulls the air out faster. The marinater works great: The flavors of the marinade taste fresher and things like lemon zest really sing. It really speeds up the marinating and tenderizing process.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good Pump, Mediocre Bowl Design, May 29, 2008
This review is from: Vacu Vin 2977450 2-1/2-Quart Instant Marinating Container (Kitchen)
I had a much older marinator but it finally broke after many years, so I ordered this one. The pump has greatly improved; so much easier. But the bowl has a very stupid design. The bottom of the bowl is not level...it's "humped" whereby the middle section is raised and the area near the edges (where the bottom of the bowl meets the sides) are much lower. I don't get the reasoning behind this! So, part of the meat (the portion that's against the edge) is in the marinade, but the remaining portion of the meat (the part that's not shoved against the edge) doesn't touch the marinade unless you pour a HUGE amount of marinade in the bowl to fill up the entire bottom. Dumb design. I wish I knew this feature before I bought it, but the picture doesn't reveal this.

I found the lid hard to remove because the suction was so strong, but pulling out the whole stopper helps it come right off. The container and lid are very strong and durable, so the problems of the older model have been eliminated. This Instant Marinater is a great timesaver in the home and for the outdoor BBQ.

5.0 out of 5 stars We love the VacuVin Instant Marinater, September 3, 2007
This review is from: Vacu Vin 2977450 2-1/2-Quart Instant Marinating Container (Kitchen)
I had to replace our old VacuVin Instant Marinater because it cracked under the pressure! This new model is bigger and stronger and it is easier to tell when I've sucked out enough air.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty much works as advertised, December 31, 2007

This past summer was when I finally started getting into grilling. I had been marinating my meats in either a Tupperware or plastic bag. Then, I read about this item, so I purchased it. It seems to work just fine. I'ved used it more than 30 times. In each case I'd add the marinade to the meat, and place in the refrigerator while I go to work. I haven't had any problems with implosion, and it's easy to tell when there's enough vacuum - it get VERY hard to pump. It's well made out of thick plastic [polycarbonate?] and has plenty of room inside. Now if only I was better at choosing tasty marinades, I'd be all set.

4.0 out of 5 stars good product, February 23, 2009
This review is from: Vacu Vin 2977450 2-1/2-Quart Instant Marinating Container (Kitchen)
The 3 main complaints I've noticed on this product are that, there are no instructions telling how much air to pump out, that you can't get the cover off easily, and the bottom of the container is rounded inwards. I want to mention that there are indeed instructions on the box holding the pump (10 pumps max for a full container, 25 max for 1/2 full.) To get the cover off, just nudge the rubber thing on top to the side indicated by the triangles that will let air in. As for the solution to the bottom of the container, the only things I can think of are that maybe it's their attempt to get the marinade under your food (though I would think ridges on a flat bottom would do a better job,) or maybe it's because it's a stronger shape so it doesn't implode as easily.) Anyway, I've found this product works as advertised, and although it's supposed to be "instant", I recommend keeping food in it for a few hours to let the acids in the marinade to do its job.

Great product. Strong and robust, I have had meat marinating for several days and the vacuum remains strong. Hasn't improved my cooking any, but the marinade part works great.

1.0 out of 5 stars Mine just exploded on kitchen counter !!, January 1, 2010

This review is from: Vacu Vin 2977450 2-1/2-Quart Instant Marinating Container (Kitchen)
I purchased this time as a Christmas present for my wife, (ok it was for me too) My first use I put in chicken and Italian dressing. It was seated on the kitchen counter top for about 1 hour when all of a sudden it exploded. Yes it exploded, stuff hit the ceiling and went all over the kitchen. Their are no instructions on how much air to pump out. I must have pumped out too much but how am I to know that? If anyone was next to the counter we would be on the way to the emergency room right now. Interesting product but it's NOT safe. Don't buy.

I purchased the Vacu Vin 2977450 2-1/2-Quart Instant Marinating Container as a present for myself in January, and I've been using it about once or twice a month. Overall, I've been quite happy with the results from using this marinating container. The container is large enough to hold a decent size steak, even just large enough for a large size London broil,
Although of course not a true vacuum, using the pump does help pull the juices into the meat you are marinating, providing a meat cooks very tender with lots of flavor. There are a few downsides however, which keeps me from giving it a perfect five star.
The bottom of the container is raised in the center for reasons I do not understand. I would have much preferred for it to have a flat bottom.
You really need to pour a little water onto the top of the lid, to help to provide a better suction. The first time was very frustrating as it would neither hold the suction, or even create any suction. However, with some patience, it does work, and after a few pumps, you begin to feel the difference in pulling up on the pump.
The product could have come with better instructions with regard to how many pumps is best for various types and sizes of meats. So far, I've ranged from 20 to 25 pumps, with 25 pumps for smaller portions.
In summary, again I am overall, quite happy with this product and consider it as a good choice.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works great but you need a lot of marinate, July 7, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Vacu Vin 2977450 2-1/2-Quart Instant Marinating Container (Kitchen)
I waited until I used this several time to post my review. The product works as expected but you need a lot of marinating liquid. For some reason they made the bottom of the container convex so you need more liquid than if had a flat bottom. I don't understand why they didn't use a flat bottom. For example, I marinated 6 steaks for 3 days (they were frozen when I started) and the bottoms were well marinated but the tops were not. Yes, you can open it up and flip the meat but shaking the container had little if any effect.

3.0 out of 5 stars Worked sometimes, June 13, 2010

This review is from: Vacu Vin 2977450 2-1/2-Quart Instant Marinating Container (Kitchen)
The bowl worked great for the first couple months I used it, then I started having problems with the check valve holding pressure. Turned out it was the seal on the top that was not working the best. Ive had it for about a year now and can use it as a water bowl for the puppy. The top is completely useless. Also, be prepared to use a lot of marinade as the bottom of the bowl bulges inward.
