A few simple clicks..., June 17, 2003
This review is from: Vacu Vin Click Bottle Rack, Set of 10 (Kitchen)
The last time my sister visited me, she had a reaction that I have found common among visitors to my house -- gaping in awe at the number of bottles of wine stored about the place. My sister became even more impressed when she realised that this wasn't a collection of $10 bottles, but rather included some very fine wines, Latour, a few Mouton-Rothschildes, several Margaux vintages, and many other quality French and California wines, as well as a select sampling from other countries (and states), too. I have a good collection of friends who know wine, and know that it is one gift I'll always enjoy.
Thus, my sister resolved to learn more about wine, and to build a collection herself. I decided to help her by giving her the basic building blocks -- some nice red and white wines, a good corkscrew, a book, and Click Racks. I wasn't sure of the design of her kitchen, and so did not want to invest in something that wouldn't fit the space. No such problem for Click Racks, as these assemble together to fit the space -- they can be assembled two, three, four bottles high (depending upon shelving and cabinet space); most likely even higher, given sufficient supports on the sides.
Click Racks are made from a highly durable plastic -- before you say 'ick!', this isn't cheap kitchen disposal plastics (although, far be it for me to cast aspersions on such plastic, which certainly has its place, too). The colours fit the appliances and scheme of her kitchen, and we were able to fit all the bottles nicely so as to lend the air of wine appreciation to the room.
Click Racks are incredibly easy to fit together, to build into the patterns that fit the space, and to disassemble and reassemble when such is necessary. If one has fewer bottles than spaces, one can simply remove the empty slots for storage (although who would want empty spaces in the wine rack!).
This is a staple gift of mine, and is particularly well suited for apartment dwellers (who often have smaller kitchens and not a lot of room for larger wine racks) and friends who, alas, are languishing in college housing. Of course, it is always fun to bring the first bottles to put in the rack as a gesture; once this gift has been given, follow-up gifts become easy!
More wine, please!

Great item when on sale..., June 5, 2002
This review is from: Vacu Vin Click Bottle Rack, Set of 10 (Kitchen)
This worked nicely as a DIY wine-rack inside an old refrigerator hooked up to an external relay with a thermometer. That way you get an inexpensive wine cooler using an old fridge rather than a super-expensive wine-optimized cooler. (You can find commercial products that save you some wiring as well.)
This product is very basic, but can nicely fill an existing space (like that fridge) with wine bottles.

We ordered 3 boxes of the 10 click racks. 2 boxes contained only 9 racks. We e-mailed Vacu Vin Inc. and was told to return the boxes for new ones. We really didn't feel it was worth our time to ship it all back, so we will do without. They do fasten together easily and will fulfill our purpose.
