3.0 out of 5 stars Flexible, but not as space-efficient as they seem, and ugly.
I bought 40 of these (4 10-packs) with the idea that I'd build them to fit a small hall closet.

Since I can fit 7 bare bottles side-to-side on the floor of the closet, I assumed I'd be able to fit 5 of these units side-by-side, and build a 9-unit-high (4-5-4-5-4-5-4-5-4) wine rack to fit the closet.

Unfortunately, there's lots of plastic between bottles. That might...

The last time my sister visited me, she had a reaction that I have found common among visitors to my house -- gaping in awe at the number of bottles of wine stored about the place. My sister became even more impressed when she realised that this wasn't a collection of $10 bottles, but rather included some very fine wines, Latour, a few Mouton-Rothschildes, several Margaux vintages, and many other quality French and California wines, as well as a select sampling from other countries (and states), too. I have a good collection of friends who know wine, and know that it is one gift I'll always enjoy.

Thus, my sister resolved to learn more about wine, and to build a collection herself. I decided to help her by giving her the basic building blocks -- some nice red and white wines, a good corkscrew, a book, and Click Racks. I wasn't sure of the design of her kitchen, and so did not want to invest in something that wouldn't fit the space. No such problem for Click Racks, as these assemble together to fit the space -- they can be assembled two, three, four bottles high (depending upon shelving and cabinet space); most likely even higher, given sufficient supports on the sides.

Click Racks are made from a highly durable plastic -- before you say 'ick!', this isn't cheap kitchen disposal plastics (although, far be it for me to cast aspersions on such plastic, which certainly has its place, too). The colours fit the appliances and scheme of her kitchen, and we were able to fit all the bottles nicely so as to lend the air of wine appreciation to the room.

Click Racks are incredibly easy to fit together, to build into the patterns that fit the space, and to disassemble and reassemble when such is necessary. If one has fewer bottles than spaces, one can simply remove the empty slots for storage (although who would want empty spaces in the wine rack!).

This is a staple gift of mine, and is particularly well suited for apartment dwellers (who often have smaller kitchens and not a lot of room for larger wine racks) and friends who, alas, are languishing in college housing. Of course, it is always fun to bring the first bottles to put in the rack as a gesture; once this gift has been given, follow-up gifts become easy!

More wine, please!

This worked nicely as a DIY wine-rack inside an old refrigerator hooked up to an external relay with a thermometer. That way you get an inexpensive wine cooler using an old fridge rather than a super-expensive wine-optimized cooler. (You can find commercial products that save you some wiring as well.)

This product is very basic, but can nicely fill an existing space (like that fridge) with wine bottles.

We ordered 3 boxes of the 10 click racks. 2 boxes contained only 9 racks. We e-mailed Vacu Vin Inc. and was told to return the boxes for new ones. We really didn't feel it was worth our time to ship it all back, so we will do without. They do fasten together easily and will fulfill our purpose.

That might be necessary for strength & stability, but it meant I could only fit 4 across in my closet, which reduced the total capacity of the resulting rack considerably.

That being said, I discovered the hard way that they can be snapped together and split apart many times without breaking, so you can experiment without fear.

Pros:

1) Nicely modular. You can build a rack as big or small, high or wide as you want, modulo the size of each individual segment.
2) Not too expensive per-bottle, at least relative to other wine racks.

Cons:

1) Less space-efficient than you'd think, due to the plastic between bottles.
2) Ugly. Why they're only offered in white I don't understand.
3) Somewhat time-consuming to build -- it took me about 45 minutes to put mine together, although if I skipped the rubber skids it would have been much faster. Depending on how highly you value your time, a more expensive pre-built rack might actually be cheaper.

4.0 out of 5 stars fridge into wine!, June 2, 2004

Not bad. this bottle rack set is a little tricky to put together but can turn those empty refrigerator shelves into wine storage. Make 'em as high or as wide as you want. A good deal given the price.

I got this for my boyfriend to house his fledgling wine collection. The pieces snap together and are very secure once assembled. You wouldn't want to hang it on the wall, but we have a pyramid of six of them on top of the fridge, and one inside the fridge to safely chill a bottle of wine. For the price, it can't be beat.

3.0 out of 5 stars could be better..., June 17, 2003

This item could be better, but for the price it's okay. I found it easy to assemble the first time, but I needed to take it apart to move and had trouble reconnecting it. It serves its purpose well if you just need something to keep your wine bottles out of the way, but I would definitely purchase something better next time.

4.0 out of 5 stars vacu vin click bottle rack, August 23, 2007

We needed a rack we could put inside a cupboard space, that did not have a handle on top or lots of wasted space. This is perfect because you can customize it to whatever height or width you need. Ours is 3 rows high and since it touches both sides of the cupboard, it's very sturdy.
It's not beautiful... just white plastic... but it's a simple and efficient way of organizing wine bottles, inside a cabinet.

3.0 out of 5 stars $16.95 for adjustable storage, April 4, 2007
This review is from: Vacu Vin Click Bottle Rack, Set of 10 (Kitchen)
I plan on using the cheaper box wine for cooking after my last two bottles of cheap wine are used up but I want to keep a stock of Golden Boy fish sauce on hand and this will do very well because it is cheap and I can adjust how many I place where without being locked into a static rack where I will look at empty spaces as supplies dwindle. This is a great idea.
