Product Description

Amazon.com Review

For preserving the flavor and aroma of ground coffee, this container replicates the vacuum-sealed package the coffee (or beans) comes in. After opening the package, simply pour the coffee into the container, place the pump on the lid's rubber stopper, and pump the air out of the container. When coffee is needed, pinch the stopper and remove the lid. Then reseal by pumping the air out again. The plastic container holds about 1/2 pound of ground coffee and stands 5 inches high (without the lid). While it's ideal for coffee, the container is perfect also for any food that loses freshness quickly when exposed to air, such as chocolate, crackers, and nuts. For cleaning, the food saver can be dismantled easily. --Fred Brack

Product Description

Once exposed to air, ground coffee quickly looses its flavor and aroma. The vacuum pump extracts the air from the Vacuum Coffee Saver container so that the flavor and aroma of the coffee will be kept fresh.

3.0 out of 5 stars Some concerns, March 2, 2005

This review is from: Vacu Vin Coffee Saver Starter Set (Kitchen)
I almost bought one of these and then I asked the author of a number of books on coffee what he thought. He said he and his colleagues don't use them because 1) the vacuum action sucks oils and flavors out of the beans during each pump but 2) if you don't pump a lot, you're removing so little oxygen it doesn't make any difference. He noted that Illy and other non-Folgers type coffee bean dealers don't vacuum pack, they pack the beans in CO2 or Nitrogen (I think) gas, so that there's no oxygen, but the beans aren't being sucked dry of their oils and flavors. I think these canisters would be useful for creating a seal, but I wouldn't use them for really creating vacuum.

I like the air tightness in this product. It keeps my coffee beans fresh. If I have trouble with the seal leaking, I clean the rim of the container and wipe of the rubber seal. It seals and holds the seal for days and even weeks when I'm gone!

3.0 out of 5 stars Effort Required--Is It Worth It?, August 5, 2001

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Vacu Vin Coffee Saver Starter Set (Kitchen)
Bought this item a few months ago and have now figured out exactly how to use it. Instructions were not good. To ensure things are properly stored, one must exercise elbow grease and pump,Pump, PUMP! Not a simple, easy container to use, requires work and cleaning every time it is opened, but it does store things as described. Not sure it is worth so much effort. Opening it up is also time consuming, one must pinch the top just exactly right.
