5.0 out of 5 stars Might as well store it right...
First grade materials and packaging. Each container has its own stopper allowing the use of all three containers at the same time. These are perfect for coffee, tea, nuts, herbs, and other perishables sensitive to air. The lid sits loosely atop the container until a few pumps of the Vacu Vin pump removes the air and provides an airtight seal between lid and container...

2.0 out of 5 stars Too Small
For those of us who live in warm weather climates, these looked to be a Godsend. And they're fine for crackers and other small items. But a box of cereal wouldn't fit in all three put together. These are clever, but have few practical uses.

5.0 out of 5 stars This handy device takes storage one step further, October 29, 2000

This is great for what you get. I have an electric vacuum sealer that I use all the time, but it cost me over a hundred dollars. Here' you get a good vacuum seal for a fraction of that. The vacue-vin is a very versatile and useful device. You can use it to marinate your dinner in half the time, store perishables in the refrigerator for extended periods, and extend the shelf life of most of your dry goods. Admittedly, most dry goods aren't terribly perishable, but you can save things like crackers, nuts, bread crumbs and cereal flakes for a lot longer with these jars. Buying bulk spices and storing them in a vacuum is definately a good idea- see my tip below about using mason jars. I'd also say that the vacu-vin is great for wine drinkers- if simply corked and refrigerated or left on the shelf a bottle of wine will get stale overnight- the vacu-vin will preserve that half bottle of wine for a few days. (I've heard a lot of people say that the system is pretty much useless with wine, but it's always worked for me).

The company probably wouldn't want you to know this, but using the rubber stoppers in a regular old mason jar that has had a whole drilled into it works well and extends the value of this system immeasureably. My $100+ electric device seals mason jars too, but not at this price.

I'm not saying that this system is superior to my eletric unit, I'm just saying that it does some of the same things for a better price, so for SOME consumers it might be a better option. But I have both and use them quite a bit. My guess is that most people will find this a pretty useful gadget.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Storage System, September 8, 2002

The vacu-vin food saver storage system is great! The container forms an airtight seal for leftovers or dry foods, allowing for a long storage time. Buy the larger, cheaping bulk packaged items at a savings, then repackage into smaller more usable portion using the vacu-vin containers. Put that extra few pieces of meat on the bar-b-que, cook and then put into the vacu-vin container for use later in the week, great bar-b-que later on.

The containers fit very nicely in the fridge, easy to clean up and are easy to use. Simply fit the vacuum into the seal and pump the handle until it "feels" firm, and the fresh food is well protected, because all the air has been removed. (Remember the old info-mercial for a product like this? But it costs about 3 times as much to do the same thing).

These items, the containers, marinater, wine stopper (bottle stopper), are a staple in my kitchen and cooking. A great product and a great price!

5.0 out of 5 stars Can Also Be Used As Marinaters Also, February 23, 2003

These jars have a 0.5 liter, 0.75 liter, and 1.0 liter (Vacu-Vin is based in the Netherlands) capacity and comes with a pump. The Vaccuum marinater is 1.25 liter and comes with a pump also. The lids are white. The Concerto stoppers also work with the Vacuum food savers, the Concerto vacuum pump is easier to use and won't accidently crack the containers by pumping too much (you can give away the pump and stoppers that come with as a gift). The interiors have a diameter of about 3 inches and all 3 lids are interchangable. The interior lengths are 3-1/2 inch, 5 inches, and 6 inches. While I have not tried it as a marinator my guess is the 1.0 liter would hold a 2 pound circular Boston roast. Of course it could be used to marinate small objects such as chicken wings. The Concerto pump won't work very well with the regular pump stoppers, so if you buy the Concerto pump, buy (extra) Concerto stoppers. Before I purchased these food savers, I would marinate for 2-3 hours with a strongly flavored mariade. I suggest that if you marinate with this product for 2-3 hours, that you start with a weak marinade and gradually work yourself up to your perferred strength of flavor. A little marinade goes a long way with this product, so use the marinade sparingly (you will save money on the mariade). The coffee saver is 0.75 liter also, so buy this set instead of the coffee saver.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vacu-vin Storage Containers, August 20, 2002

I love these things! I have Vacu-vin storage containers, Wine Stopper kit, and Marinator. The storage containers are great for keeping nuts and snacks fresh. They really work! The marinator also works great, but its size precludes its use with larger cuts of meat, such as T-bone or Porterhouse steaks. It is well suited for smaller cuts and fish and chicken. Its capacity is most useful for 1-2 people (maybe 3, frugally). At 50% off the storage containers are a huge bargain. I already had one set which I paid full price for a couple of years ago, and intended to buy another set as add on to another item purchase (to take advantage of free shipping). Instead, I bought two more sets for the price of one. That's nine, count 'em, nine containers, which I will have upon receipt of these two sets, and they will all be put to use.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use and usually works..., August 30, 2004

When it works the food savers are great - easy to use and they dont use a lot of space. However, I have had a problem with the cannisters losing their suction for no apparent reason. When they work, they work well. I especially like them for storing coffee.

By far, this is the most incredible food storage system invented yet.
Foods stay fresher longer, and retain their original color and consistancy for prolonged periods of time, whether it be in the refrigerator or on the shelf. Containers fit perfectly in the refrigerator or on conventional cabinet shelves, and are simple and easy to use. They clean up very nicely after use, as well.
This is a MUST HAVE item for any kitchen!

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps Air Out and Freshness In, February 1, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Vacu Vin Food Saver, Set of 4 (Kitchen)
A good friend and I each purchased the Vacu Vin Food Saver, set of 4 and we are both very pleased with this product. We used to store our precious herbs in Tupperware, but the freshness would only last a month, maybe two. Now, each time I release the pressure from the lid top I hear the air rush in with a loud hiss. I reach for some herb, knowing full well that it will be tasty, fresh, and ready to bake! Thanks Vacu Vin!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Does not hold seal., September 11, 2004

I love the Vacu Vin wine bottle stoppers, so a year ago I purchased the marinator and a set of canisters. Big mistake. I can't get the seal to hold most of the time. This happened after a few uses, so it's not that they're old or anything. Every month or so I give it another try, to no avail. The seal and edges are clean, and I can't figure out what to do.
