5.0 out of 5 stars Works GREAT and fits a wide range of container sizes.

This is NOT intended to be used to cool a drink down from room temperature, but to take one that is already at refrigerator cool and cool it down more to near-ice-cold temperatures quickly and keep there for an hour or so. For that purpose it is excellent.

This works fine for a wide range of container sizes. Because the inner cooler-slush pouches are in sections, different diameter containers slide in and the pouches squeeze around the container sides to fit tightly. I've used it with the standard 12 oz can as well as 12 oz, 16 oz, 1/2 liter, and even up to 20 oz bottles. And from tall skinny longneck beers to short squat soda bottles, It will probably be too loose on containers narrower than a longneck, and a 20 oz soda bottle is about the largest it can take.

The cooler takes about an hour or two to go from room temperature to fully charged, and when put around an already refrigerated drink, it will cool it even more to "ice-cold" temperature and then keep it cold for an hour or so.

Again, it doesn't have the cooling capacity to cool a room temperature drink down to refrigerated temperatures, so it's not a replacement for already keeping your drinks in the refrigerator, but if you're like me and prefer your drinks cooler than refrigerator temperatures, this is excellent, especially if you don't like your drinks watered down by melting ice!

5.0 out of 5 stars I use it all the time - well worth the money, December 27, 2006

It is good for cooling a beverage that is warm but I use it even more to keep a cold beverage cold.

I like my beer and soda especially cold and this does the trick - also on a hot day I never get that last warm sip of beer.

Remember those can covers we used in high school that made a beer can look like "Mountain Dew" but the lable actually said "Mountain Brew"? Well this has the opposite effect - it make it look like I'm drinking beer when I'm only sipping a Pepsi.

Better to leave these plastic chillers in the freezer and put the beer in for 5 minutes instead ..... then I notice a difference in the temp of the beer .....

Save you money .....

I wanted to test how well these things worked so I used 3 bottles of Coca-Cola. Each held 16.9 oz. or 500mL (the plastic bottles sold in grocery stores). They were started at room temperature - 71.8 degress F. I put the first in the Vacu Vin sleeve which had been in the freezer at 0 degrees Farenheit for 10 hours. The second I buried in cube ice. The third I put in a 35 degree F refrigerator. I started a timer for 10 minutes which is twice as long as the box said it should take for the Vacu Vin things to "chill" something. After ten minutes the Vacu Vin soda "chilled" to 60.0 degrees. The ice chilled to 61.8. The refrigerator chilled to 68.5.

I guess 12 degrees in 10 minutes is a "chill", but it hardly gets the beverage down to the 34-40 degrees which I look for in my frosty beverages. Also, I can buy ice for $.99 per bag and chill more than one soda while knowing the ice will frost the drink in about a half hour. The Vacu Vin didn't chill my soda any cooler than 60.0, even after fifteen minutes.

Having said that, I suspect that these would work well as insulators for already cold beverages since they are frozen as opposed to a room temperature foam rubber sleeve. However, they don't "chill" anything, unless 60 degrees falls within your definition of "cold".

This can chill a warm can in a fairly short amount of time...after that, it loses steam. Unfortunately, the cells that freeze inside of the wrap seem to thaw pretty quickly - even a cold can will start to warm after about 30 min. Years ago I had a hard sided can chiller that used a thin layer of gel as a can koozie and that thing would stay frozen for hours! I'd hoped for something more prolonged like that.

I use these on bottles....perfect fit for the 16.9 oz Lipton Green Tea.... I've never tried them on an unrefrigerated bottle.. they make the refrigerated bottles get even colder..I especially like to use these outside in the summer...screen porch, pool...they fold so they don't take up as much space in the freezer as the hard hand held type.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great! Needs a bottom., August 28, 2009
This review is from: Vacu Vin Rapid Ice Beer Chiller, set of two (Kitchen)
I use these to replace a need for a coozy. They work great to keep a beer cold especially outside in the Texas heat. I use two of them so I can rotate. I can't say how they would do to get a beer cold from room temperature since I have never used them for that purpose but they work great to keep a beer cold. In fact it seems like the beer gets colder than if it was taken straight out of the fridge. I just wish it had some kind of bottom. Maybe just a strap would work and still allow it to fold. I find that some bottles want to slide out if you don't hold it tight enough.

These are great.

I have two by the same company that I have used almost daily for 9 years and they are like new.

The only difference is that the new ones are a little faster.

I really like these chillers. They keep the container of beverage ice cold. I don't think they were ever intended to actually make a beverage cold, but to keep it cold. For that, it's super!
