5.0 out of 5 stars Very informative and extremely funny
This book would make a great gift for girls going through puberty. The writers are personal, witty and honest about women's health issues as well as the gender/social aspects that are nearly always tangled up with reproductive health. 1.0 out of 5 stars Sad!
For a book written by a doctor, there is an amazing amount of misinformation. Despite extensive published and peer-reviewed research by Beverly Whipple documenting the G-Spot and female ejaculation, this book denies both exist. Where did the authors do their research?

Also, please note that most of the glowing reviews were written within a few days of each...

This review is from: Vaginas: An Owner's Manual (Paperback)
This book would make a great gift for girls going through puberty. The writers are personal, witty and honest about women's health issues as well as the gender/social aspects that are nearly always tangled up with reproductive health. All the anatomical basics are covered in detail, as well as various conditions and symptoms. It even covers menopause, so it's really a book for anyone with a vagina!
The authors are mother and daughter, the mother being a gynecologist and the daughter a writer--I wish my own mom had been so knowledgeable and forthright about the topics discussed in the book. Again, this book is great for those who are uncomfortable talking about reproductive health with their parents or children.
Also sprinkled liberally throughout the book are odd historical facts about gynecological treatments or conditions, both in American and other cultures. These are sometimes amusing, sometimes upsetting and often bewildering. It provides a good historical context for a realm of anatomy and physiology that is still (compared to many other health problems or issues) mysterious and not fully understood.
Overall, it's a very quick and informative read that I highly recommend for every woman and girl.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helpful and Funny!, January 26, 2012
This is a great book! I work with tweens and this has been a great book to give them when they start having questions about how they work. It's smart, funny, clear and never scary.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent and easy-to-read resource, May 4, 2005

This review is from: Vaginas: An Owner's Manual (Paperback)
I just finished reading this book and am now back on Amazon to buy copies for my friends. It is a funny, well-written, and straight-forward guide to the female anatomy and a useful resource for teenagers and adults alike. I was shocked to discover how much I did not know already about my own body, and absolutely grateful for this intelligent book. It is not condescending or judgmental--just the straight facts written in a way that is easy to read and as enjoyable as a novel.

I'd recommend this book to any woman--or any man for that matter! You'll be surprised what you might learn.

5.0 out of 5 stars the famed g-spot!, January 28, 2012
"Without a doubt, a discreet anatomic entity called the G-spot does not exist," said Dr. Amichai Kilchevsky, a urology resident at Yale-New Haven Hospital in Connecticut, and lead author of the review, published Jan. 12 in the Journal of Sexual Medicine.

Not only is this book full of good information, but the mother-daughter writing team are able to convey it in fun and fresh way. This book feels like the book they should have given you in sex ed. class, so that you wouldn't have had to spend your adolescence and early adulthood wondering what the heck was going on down there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even for the guys - witty, educational, interesting, May 5, 2005
This review is from: Vaginas: An Owner's Manual (Paperback)
I got this from a girlfriend who loved it, and I initially picked it up out of obligation. However, I kept reading because Dr. Livoti and Miss Topp really have something here. The in-depth coverage of topics I was never even aware of made me question the completeness of my sexual education. It's a must read full of need-to-knows, vaginal trivia, and interesting anecdotes that make the read enjoyable and enlightening, even for a person without a vagina. I have since bought 10 copies for all my girlfriends.

5.0 out of 5 stars So perfect I offered them a monthly column!!, May 5, 2005
This review is from: Vaginas: An Owner's Manual (Paperback)
Elizabeth Topp and Dr. Carol Livoti have perfectly combined all the information you need, and want, to know with a comfortable conversational tone that makes it a must have for women of any age. I know from working with them personally that Vaginas: An Owner's Manual is a wealth of knowledge from two fantastic experts who love teaching women about their health and their bodies. In fact, I found the book (and the authors) so perfect, I offered them a monthly column in Playgirl Magazine!
