Book Description

Laid off after his factory was abruptly shuttered, and unable to find gainful employment, Jim Jansen has been forced out of his house and onto the street. With no decent career prospects in sight, he takes on odd jobs to try and scrape together enough money to get back on his feet and back to his wife and daughter.

He befriends an old acquaintance from the factory, and together they manage to fashion a wretched, but livable, existence in an alley. But try as he might to get ahead, life deals him setback after setback.

A series of particularly disheartening setbacks pushes him to his breaking point. His friend departs after suffering a brutal beating, leaving Jim all alone. When his wife of seventeen years delivers some especially discouraging news, Jim soon finds himself out of options. Unless...

Follow Jim on his journey as he tries to find his way back.

5.0 out of 5 stars Desperate measure for desperate times. November 2, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Mr. O'Dell brings to light what many have succumbed to due to these hard economic times. I found myself guilty as charged, staring ahead pretending the non-existence of those that have fallen on such hard times. Eddie has penned a marvelous book here but it will not be read by those who are ultimately responsible for the downfall of our manufacturing sector.
I liked the reality that is put on paper of the hardships that our homeless endure. Made me really wonder where the author got his ideas from as some parts appear to be real life events.
This is a book that all should read and will remind us that the man/woman on the corner is human with a story to tell.
Waiting for Mr. O'Dell's next book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Changes your perspective on the Homeless April 2, 2012
By Barbara
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed this book and the thoughts it provoked as reading. As I encounter the homeless, I will have a better understanding of their personal struggles,This book makes you realize sometimes the fate of the homeless is not within their control.

I was so touched by this entire story and so moved by the ending. I hope many more will take time to read this and become educated.
