Tear Mender - Frabric Cement,
By
This review is from: Val-A TG-16 Tear Mender Fabric and Leather Cement (Misc.)
The product works just as they say. It can be a lifesaver. The only problem is the shelf life of the product - it dries out in the bottle and becomes useless. The 16 oz bottle is not a good size for the average person as it will dry out in the bottle before you use it all. Most tears only use a little of the liquid - if you can purchase a smaller amount then it is worth it - but if you get the 16 oz bottle you will throw away three quarters of the bottle a year later because it dried up in the bottle.

Best Fabric Cement with Patience,

I've used this product for about two years. Unfortunately, even though I kept it tightly closed, the bottle dried up into a big clump of plastic. However, before that I used it on numerous items including lamp shades, jeans, fur jacket, wall paper, etc. It takes a little time to learn how to use it properly so patience is needed here. Once you get it on something, you cannot remove it. However, I'm ordering a new, smaller bottle.

It's good enough for a bachelor to neatly cuff Levis for keeps. Forget the cap spout; remove the cap and dip glue out on an ice cream stick (from a hobby shop) and dab along seam edge 4" to 6" at a time, smearing along the line and pressing down the edge as you go. Start with cuffs ironed to a crease. 1-1/2 or 2-inch cuffs. Don't soak fabric, just coat it. Follow-up by sealing the cut edges. Wearable immediately. Washable, no problems.

I have saved well over a thousand dollars worth of Jeans with this. Its great. Use small dots of glue smear with a pop cycle stick or craft stick. Do not put to much on or it will show thru the fabric. But it works great.

I have used Tear mender for years, it is fantastic on my bib overalls and my welding leathers, it can be messy but it does the job. What I do for a living it doesn't matter if I spill a lil here or there, I am not working construction for a fashion show. If I get some on my hands.... no biggie it dries and peels right off. ANYWHERE IT TOUCHES FABRIC IT WILL STICK. I glue fabric on fabric, leather on fabric, leather on leather and I even used it on my work boots once. Great stuff!!
I made my Purchase from BICsuperstore Great price and a decent shipping price. I would make sure if you are to buy the large bottle like i did you make sure to reseal the bottle. It will harden over time and you will have a solid bottle of rubber.

We have used this product before and were glad to be able to order on amazon. Product works great for mending welding jackets which are very hard to sew.

As stated by others, a good product, but goes bad in bottle after awhile. They do have a 6 oz. bottle which is available elsewhere, eg Gempler's. About 8 bucks.

For a single guy like me who doesn't sew, this stuff is the bomb! I haven't used it on dress pants, but it's been great for hemming jeans, khakis, and work pants of all kinds. Alteration shops here charge $8 to hem pants, so a bottle of Tear Mender pays for itself in no time. I've also used it extensively to repair tears and holes in work pants. Every application has lasted well--some for over a year. It's truly an excellent product.

This is the 3rd bottle that I have purchased. It seems to work best on material. My husband even patches his jeans with it. We like it.

This glue will hold two pieces of leather (rough side not shiny side) together like you will not believe. It will hold denim jeans, cotton T-shirts, even neoprene chest waders, It will not stick to your skin. It rolls right off like a bugger. Don't worry with the hot iron on patches anymore. Just glue the patch on in 2 minutes. It will soak through and look ugly if you are not careful so don't use it on a $1,000.00 suit. I have made wallets, knife sheaths, ammo belts, pouches, and more. Go get some.
Update Oct 2011: I found this product at Tractor Supply of all places. In the very back corner with the tarp and straps. Caution: It will soak through thin material. If you are using it on any lightly colored thin fabric it will leave an ugly spot. It even soaked through a uniform patch so be careful. |
