Elvis Aaron Presley was born to Vernon and Gladys Presley in a two-room house in Tupelo, Mississippi, on January 8, 1935. His twin brother, Jessie Garon, was stillborn, leaving Elvis to grow up as an only child. He and his parents moved to Memphis, Tennessee, in 1948, and Elvis graduated from Humes High School there in 1953.

5.0 out of 5 stars Happy Valentine's Day, February 15, 2004
By
This review is from: Valentine Gift (Audio CD)
This CD was released back in the early days of CDs and is long out of print. It is a compilation that has a "love songs" theme. Of course, most of the songs that Elvis recorded were love songs, so they had a lot to choose from. To their credit, they avoided using too many of the most obvious choices. The only really well known songs here are "Are You Lonesome Tonight?" and "Can't Help Falling in Love". They instead chose to feature some of his great lesser known songs like "Love Letters" and "Tomorrow is a Long Time". This is a worthwhile CD, and if you can find a cheap used copy, it is well worth the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Solid Collection, June 13, 2000

This CD would rate 5 stars were it not for the availability of the songs here on the essential 50's and 60's box sets. (Liner notes would have been nice, too.) Still, if you don't have a lot of dough, this is worth owning for Mr. Presley's version of the Bob Dylan song "Tomorrow Is a Long Time" alone.

4.0 out of 5 stars HAPPY VALENTINES DAY - FROM ELVIS !, January 24, 2006
This review is from: Valentine Gift (Audio CD)
First of all I simply adore this CD even though some of the tracks are available on larger box sets. It was packaged well and re-mastered exquisitly. However, I have to add that I would not have purchased the CD if I had not already owned the original 33 1/3 rmp recording...which is a classic! The vynl is pressed in the color RED with a gold label. The album is just exactly what you would expect to find in many collections of girls when they were "teeny-boppers". I've since worn the recording out and have been seeking a CD version. I find that even the CD has been out of print for many years. If you can find a used version in good shape of the CD or the 33 1/3 rmp recording (in very good condition it is a collectors piece now), go for it! Some of the tracks which I enjoy are "Young and Beautiful," "Tomorrow Is A Long Time," (which is a cover for a Bob Dylan song), and "Love Letters." Standard Elvis hits such as "Are You Lonesome Tonight?" and "Can't Help Falling In Love" are included among the tracks. Anyway, Valentine's Day is coming up and I can't think of a better gift for that very special person in your life. It's, after all, "a valentine gift" from Elvis to us all. I give this a 4 star rating because there should and could have been more tracks of love songs on the CD than listed...they had a lot to choose from over Elvis's career.
